You could also look at your method of informing them.

I've told them events ahead of time, i've told them about corruption that later gets exposed in the news & i've shown them documentaries. I don't know any more convincing methods, if they specifically don't want to accept something because they perceive it as too negative no amount of evidence can convince them.
