The CIA ~~Facebook~~ Factbook.
74 2013-04-15 by [deleted]
The CIA Factbook is a searchable database that provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 267 world countries and nations.
Wouldn't be really cool if the CIA had something like this except it was database for Individuals instead of the countries? I mean that kind of micro data would be amazing, like gold to them! A database where you can track every detailed information of every individual from the moment they are born to the moment they die. You can look into their daily lives, read their thoughts, know their families, and who their friends are. You can have pictures of them updated daily. A Factbook where the user feeds you updates of their private information.
But who would use such an obvious Spy agency database? nahh people are not that stupid..

There is no law saying you have to use facebook in fact i know many people who don't. I personally dont use facebook thinking my information is private. Certainly not with my wife having a few thousand "friends". I use it to keep up with family and its nice to reconnect with old friends. Bottom line is, Everything we do or say online is public domain. So if (lack of)privacy or government surveillance is something you cant handle dont use the internet or tv because they can monitor what you like to watch as well. Smash your cellphone too because it is a personalized beacon. Move to a cabin in the woods powered by a generator and listen to the radio on am in between hunting for dinner. because that's the only way to stay off the grid
P.s. certainly dont use Reddit

Facebook tracks non-users as well

The internet tracks everyone.
except the government

Fortunately not true... The RIAA was caught pirating stuff because websites tracked them...
The internet tracks everything, it doesn't care if you belong to X or Y.

That's precisely my point the internet tracks everyone.
except the government

...I'll just leave this here....

See, you missed my point in the post. What a coincidence that Facebook is modeled after their old database from the 1990s, the Factbook? Nevermind the proven affiliations with various government departments such as DHS and the CIA. IF CIA Facebook was called just exactly what it really is, then nobody would be on there, would they? Oh but what you don't know cant hurt you right? right.

I keep as little info on there as possible

It is Apps that are most troubling, that is why i will never get a Iphone. I got a blackberry with the ability to encrypt your data and also Scraped most of the apps.
2 qqitsdennis 2013-04-15
The only data encrypted is if you use BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Texts, calls, emails, etc...not encrypted.
1 [deleted] 2013-04-15
that's what I mean, I use for my family company. Some of our staff keep asking for Iphones, no way!
there is end-to-end encryption of email messages—from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the BlackBerry smartphone and back. So Email between all the employees is encrypted. Am not an expert but, our IT guy has explained it this way.

I'm no expert either but that sounds accurate

I don't have a Facebook, but I also use vpn and other privacy services to ensure my online experience is as private as possible. Just pointing out your extremist view isn't the only option, there is a safe middle ground!
0 [deleted] 2013-04-15
There is a safe middle ground, and it is one that takes effort. But Facebook is not one of those options in the middle ground. Their datr bug can track your every move online.Their facial recognition software means you cant be anonymous if you are using Facebook regularly(unless one has a fake account with no personal information)even then your location can be leaked through your friends list and activities, and private conversations. There is no safe privacy option on Facebook. Just do not Use it. Mozilla and Microsoft both have do not track enabling, you could disable third party cookies. You can also avoid using Search engines that collect information about your searches and habits online. Lots of options out there, VPN, or even Tor. But most people do not know that.

Did you read the part of my post where I said I don't have a Facebook? Never have and never will, I'm not dumb enough.
1 platasnatch 2013-04-15
i'm pretty sure his comment was in reply to you labeling constantine2012's suggestion as an extremist view, and to agree with the middle ground compromise.

This one of my favourite articles:
"If Mozilla follows through on its plan ... the disruption will disenfranchise every single Internet user," said Randall Rothenberg, president and CEO of the IAB, in his post. "All of us will lose the freedom to choose our own online experiences; we will lose the opportunity to monitor and protect our privacy; and we will lose the chance to benefit from independent sites ... because thousands of small businesses that make up the diversity of content and services online will be forced to close their doors."
Which begs the question How did small business survive before Consumer tracking and privacy invasion?

The Lunacy of the advertising world is so fucking horrific, everyman , women, and child should have VPN, if it was up to me.

I once posted a status about how Facebook is voluntary surveillance and how you should be super aware of everything you post but no one got the irony. Oh well.

Do you have any advice for those who already have used facebook and have revealed a lot of information? Just stop? No way to delete anything right?
2 MistrCreazil 2013-04-15
You can "order" a CD with all of your data. Your profile also stays "active" for 30 days before being deleted. (But logs of all posts, etc will remain).
1 aravani 2013-04-15
Just did some research on this.. looks like you can only do this if you are in Europe
1 Ditchdragon 2013-04-15
I remember in something like 2006 or so, the CIA wanting a cross referenced wiki-like database. They sent out specs for tech companies to bid on it. Other than that I never heard anything.

how can you tell if a non-facebook user is at your dinner party?

Wait. Does this... does this mean that the federal government knows I like David Bowie and The Legend of Zelda?

also, face recognition software. if a picture of you gets uploaded to facebook, suddenly facebook knows who you hang out with on the weekends. even if you don't have a facebook. court cases have been lost on less.
1 Fullofshitguy 2013-04-15
Yep. Although I'm not on Facebook some of my dumbass acquaintances do and have most likely uploaded pictures of me. They prob have enough info at the fusion centers to fill in the gaps. They can grab all my texts & phone calls and add it all to a page they made for me. Just because I didn't set it up or maintain a FB page doesn't mean there isn't one.
