Actually, I created /r/AdPorn, and it's been a part of the SFWPorn Network since the beginning. It's almost as old as /r/EarthPorn, but EarthPorn has 240k+ subscribers and AdPorn only has 21k because... well... it's nothing but ads.

Throwing a 1/2 pound of cheese on everything that comes out of the kitchen does not equal Italian food. The one and only time I ate at an OG I tried to get them to make my white clam sauce with just butter, wine, and garlic. Waiter assured me it's wasn't a problem, even though I insisted I would just order something else if the kitchen couldn't handle a curve-ball (I had no delusions about where I was actually eating). The linguine comes out just as described on the menu, drenched in some bubbling mess of "cheesy" sauce. I ate salad and bread-sticks for dinner. Salad was actually pretty good. Bread-sticks were totally mediocre. Fuck OG and their fucking cheese.

The statement that the admins were a part of it is even more worrisome. The admins often take flack for not reacting quickly enough when things get out of hand like /r/jailbait or the whole Boston bombers fiasco, but if it turns out they are actively aiding companies in marketing their products on reddit, then I think the whole legitimacy of the site can be called into question.
I'm not really sure what my point is, but I'm definitely concerned. Normally I wouldn't advocate doing something as serious as leaving the site, but if the admins are actively working to undermine the user base and establish a method for corporations to advertise in secret, then I'm not sure I want to stay around much longer. Throwing a 1/2 pound of cheese on everything that comes out of the kitchen does not equal Italian food. The one and only time I ate at an OG I tried to get them to make my white clam sauce with just butter, wine, and garlic. Waiter assured me it's wasn't a problem, even though I insisted I would just order something else if the kitchen couldn't handle a curve-ball (I had no delusions about where I was actually eating). The linguine comes out just as described on the menu, drenched in some bubbling mess of "cheesy" sauce. I ate salad and bread-sticks for dinner. Salad was actually pretty good. Olive Garden has got to be, without a doubt, the shittiest place to eat ever. Their microwaved garbage should be abolished because of so many people being swindled out of their money. Someone kept messaging me about how great it is after the last /r/HailCorporate thread and I was sick of their immoral and disgusting astroturfing on reddit. This is a democracy and the marketers should never win.
There is a better alternative to that shitty place and its Bertucci's. With their Chicken Domani, Baked Tortellini and Chicken Gratinati and Ceaser Salad, it's a much much better place than Olive Garden. At Bertucci's you actually feel like a family instead of pretending to be one. And they even offer gift cards for that special someone.
This blatant astroturfing of Olive Garden has got to stop. They already had multiple frontpage posts this week advertising their scummy backalley stomach trash. No more.

This doesn't seem particularly plausible, but it's hard to tell. Usually I would just pass this off as trolling, but I feel like the corporate influence over reddit has been growing exponentially over the past couple months. There have been countless posts that have reached the front page with very convenient logo placement or just general marketing ploys. It's all very troubling.
With that in mind, let's say for a second that all of this is true..have there been other instances like this that the people of reddit were unaware of? I know that /r/circlejerk had that Staples theme a few weeks ago, which I thought was just a joke, but maybe it was real?
The statement that the admins were a part of it is even more worrisome. The admins often take flack for not reacting quickly enough when things get out of hand like /r/jailbait or the whole Boston bombers fiasco, but if it turns out they are actively aiding companies in marketing their products on reddit, then I think the whole legitimacy of the site can be called into question.
I'm not really sure what my point is, but I'm definitely concerned. Normally I wouldn't advocate doing something as serious as leaving the site, but if the admins are actively working to undermine the user base and establish a method for corporations to advertise in secret, then I'm not sure I want to stay around much longer. The rest of the internet is controlled enough as it is.
