Any lefties out there?

6  2013-05-02 by Fortheloveoflife

Hi guys. It occurred to me recently that the majority of my left handed friends are also some of the most open minded people that I ever met. Especially in conspiracy circles. I wondered what % of lefties lurk here and whether that had any correlation to being a free thinker. Thanks.

I think freethinkers are less likely to subscribe to EITHER of the two parties that dominate the political landscape of this country.

Left versus right is a scam.

Edit: hah my brain plays tricks on me.

I don't mean left-wing lol. This is not about voting for political parties.

I must have read that wrong. I have no idea, I read it again and everything makes sense.

Bad day for me.

We've all been there lol!

I'm a lefty, and I think that this, along with other aspects of my childhood, set me up to be a free-thinker. I wasn't made to go along with the Pack, was allowed to do my own thing for my first five years of schooling.

I'm not going to say that being a lefty is the sole reason I'm a free-thinker, but it definitely contributed to a feeling of being separate in my earlier school days.

Thank you

My very first girlfriend is a lefty, and she's one of the smartest and self sufficient people I've met. Never once has smoked anything, and does not subscribe to politics or religion. All my other girlfriends were righties, and they were hardly half as bright.

Considering that left-handedness has often been used as a marker of other things it's injudicious to start such speculation. Can you see how it can be misused?

There is speculation and there is pointless speculation. I think this is the latter.

I think that your post brings more weight to the thread. Living in a world that wasn't made for lefties has really opened my eyes. Knowing that I'm a minority and not down to my race or religion has been an important aspect in my life. Also knowing that in the past I would have been called demon spawn and have not been allowed to be in the army have also made me think deeply about who I am and what I stand for.

I'm left handed :)

Thank you.

Left handed here also, hmm what does it all mean. You got me thinking now after reading these posts. I always took being left handed as something special. The only other person in my family that is left handed is my moms brother and he is one of the smartest people I've ever met and also very artistic. Probably one of the more successful people in our family also. There are many challenges that you face being left handed, most of them small inconveniences but for the most part being left handed is amazing.

Left hander here.

Thank you.

I am a lefty, i don't think it really makes too much of a difference, but thats just me

What about the old wife's tale about differences in left and right brain functions based on which hand you use.

[deleted]

Left handed = right brain function = more creative and abstract. Though I've seen as much to back this up as I have astrology.

It was meant as tongue in cheek - but I sincerely thought you were being sarcastic since 'wife's' would only be correct in certain circumstances (ie. singular possessive) . My apologies for misunderstanding you.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure they were referring to what you linked to.

I'm a lefty.

Thank you.

Left hander checkng in

Thank you.

There's going to be a sample bias in the replies here. The only people who are going to reply in this thread are lefties, not righties, leading to an overestimation of the percent of /r/conspiracy's left-handedness.

'The only people who are going to reply in this thread are lefties, not righties' - gotcha! I know what you mean though ;) I just thought it would be interesting to see what pops up, not do an in depth study.

Are you a lefty?

Nope. Just pointing out that if you're looking for "% of lefties that lurk here," this thread won't give an accurate indication.

I am a lefty, I lurk here because I see a lot of cross-over between /new and /worldnews on here and I like to see the different opinions. I like to consider myself open minded, I don't know if that has to do with me being left handed or not. My entire family is right handed and they are all extremely different from me, ei political and religion. Again, not saying its because I am left handed but just stating its something I have always noticed, I don't share those typical "family values" that most close families do.

lefty!

righty. also not left wing

Lefty here!

Yo

Lefty reporting for duty.

I recommend reading a book called 'A Left Hand Turn Around the World' that explores the ins and outs of 'handedness'.

Also worth noting is that hermetic and/or Luciferian schools of thought are oft referred to as the 'left hand path'.

Most are 'mixed handed' (for instance, I do everything left handed except for playing guitar). Ambidextrious actually infers you are equally skilled with both hands.

I'm a lefty. I do think lefties, in general, approach life a little differently from righties. Whether or not that makes us more skeptical of the establishment, I don't know, but lefties ARE more likely to experience mental illness. And what we call depression and anxiety and bipolar...I learned in a psych class that depressed people are more on touch with reality than happy people.

I'm a hardcore free thinker and my left hand is pretty much only useful for scrolling AlienBlue on my iPad :/

I'm a leftie but only when it comes to writing and fighting. Guitar, typing, archery etc is done as a rightie. I scroll on my iPhone with my right hand.

I always wondered why left vs. right handed guitar is defined the way it is; all my coordination is in my left hand, so naturally I use it for fretting. Conversely, the strumming/picking hand seems to require less coordination (classical and bluegrass finger picking excluded).

Word! That being said, regardless of what hand I use, I'm still shite at guitar.

If you play from the heart it's never shite.
