Are there conspiracy theories that anti-virus companies secretly work to create and release viruses and worms that they then sell software to "protect" against?
You'll have to look for it, but I read a story about a Chinese motherboard company CEO who was executed for conspiracy and fraud.
It seems his sales quotas were not being met, so he came up with the idea of a built-in self destruct code in the Bios chips that would render the motherboard useless at a random point after x hours of usage.
Millions of extra motherboards were sold before the "virus" was discovered, and since the bios chip was engineered to be not only hard soldered, but done is such a way that it was cost-prohibitive to simply swap out or reprogram, it didn't take long for the "conspiracy theorists" to be proven correct.
Interrogation of company engineers led to the truth. The CEO had issued the orders for the modifications and those who resisted were terminated, in two cases very literally; their bodies were located in grave on the factory grounds.
The story I read was from about a year ago, the newspaper was Chinese.
I used to think this anytime I got a malware/spyware scanner, because you can always go into the options and find several items white listed by default.
They don't need to, most anti virus programs cause more adverse affects on your pc than do some viruses.
I am constantly removing most anti virus programs from peoples pc's to get them working. I install simpler ones and teach the user how to avoid viruses, but those are some of the worst programs I have ever dealt with.
I founded one of the first virus trojan groups back in 89-90. Rabid. Mcafee did this. It's done on all levels. Think malware that reports infection and offers a solution. Problem reaction solution. Same old..

It is said that back in the day anti-virus companies and the music industry would infect music files on programs such as Limewire and Kazaa.

If something is possible to be thought, then it has already occurred, will occur, or is occurring.

It is also possible to think that if something is possible to be thought, then it has not occurred, will not occur, and is not occurring.

That is possible.

So, if I've got this straight, your comment essentially said "some things that people think of are possible"?
1 ugdr6424 2013-05-17
Not at all. I would say my comment, my thought, created this thread. Even this comment is a reduction, however.

I think I'll go win the lottery now.

How did that work out for you?
2 trooths33ker 2013-05-17
Not great. I blame you.
edit: Maybe I didn't think hard enough. brb, trying again.
double edit: Nope. Still nothin. I declare your statement false.

I declare that you give up too easily. Have you not watched enough Disney movies? You've got to believe in your self.
