I don't think it's actually a bot, it tracks pretty much everything I do in this sub and there is no sequential ordering of how it keeps track of my posts. Not only that, but I'll get sporatic username mention inboxes from the way his sub archives material posted here.

If that person comes forward and explains what the hell their doing I am okay with it, but if they keep silent i want to opt the fuck out.

Got it, the MentionBot should stop bothering people now. Funny how two bots end up meeting in cyberspace and publicize their love affair by broadcasting their interactions. It's not everyday that you find something so robotically poetic.

Found it. Apparently it was in /r/announcements not /r/blog.

Spiders navigate from page to page finding links just like you or I would. They don't process data in a linear fashion, but in a recursive one. There is no reason to expect archival of comments found in this manner to be sequential by date or to follow any other observable pattern.

Yeah I spotted the problem. It seems to be related to a new reddit feature for gold accounts and a new bot "MentionBot" for none gold users. The feature sends you a message whenever someone on reddit uses your username reddit link (i.e. /u/username). I changed the way the bot crossposts comments so that should be resolved. If it happens again, let me know please.

There's an issue I recently resolved with another bot (not mine) called MentionBot, it's the one doing the mass messages. But your issue might be unrelated.

Equal possibility it is either for Intimidation or for detecting shills. I am undecided at this point.

However, as of today I've noticed it apparently has put me on a monitoring list, as my posts trigger my getting a message from the MentionBot that it has registered my post. This is damned creepy and frankly, unwelcome. Police state? Or Sophomore project? Unknown.

Nonetheless, having your bot trigger that bot is uncomfortable. I am okay with your gathering data for a good cause but I have to say it had better be a good cause, as I have no love for the police state or corporate state, and I'm not a shill.

Yes the MentionBot freaked me out as well. I had no idea what was going on until I dug into the matter. No worries, all of the info I've collected is publicly stored on /r/conspiro. It really can't be misused to harm good conspiracy netcitizens, but it can be used to help track disruptive members of our community. The tool needs to evolve a bit, but I hope eventually people will be able to use it for a good purpose.

I think that by definition a shill is someone who cynically touts something they do not believe in, and does it for mercenary reasons. Not the same as a True Believer.

Shill has nothing to do with belief, it's about not acknowledging a relationship between the organization/concept you are advocating and yourself.

It is true that you might not be aware that this relationship exists, or at least convinced that no one has such power over you. But you could be wrong.

Don't post personal info in any way at all. Use throwaways. Constantly delete your account. Posting to reddit is not nearly as innocent as most people think.

I have also gotten messages that indicated I am being monitored, although I admittedly do not know much about the concept. Either way, I don't like it. And the fact that is extremely vague in explaining what it is doesn't make me feel any better. Can anyone elaborate on what exactly it is supposed to achieve? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I wrote the bot. I'm trying to figure out what happened. But, I don't think it's conspirobot that's sending you guys messages spamming you. A few days ago someone, or the reddit admins, created a bot called MentionBot, it seems to look for anymention of your "/u/username" link on reddit and lets you know where that comment is.

Apparently it's some sort of new feature. I removed the "/u/username" from conspiro comments and you should no longer be seeing these spam messages from MentionBot.

If the problem persists let me know because there maybe some bug I'm not aware of.

So if you wrote the bot, what's it do? What's it for? What's it designed to accomplish?

It's nothing secret. It's just analyzing everyone's comments and computing their "discourse" level and "shill" level. People with aggressive communication are logged and their aggressive communications count against the discourse level of a post. The shill level detects the number of posts by "shills/trolls" on a given post based on some secret sauce.

I recommend you check out posts in /r/conspiro, once their updated, and take a look at the two indicators being computed. You will spot trends in exactly which, when, and what posts spark the interest of shill/derailers and conspiritards/trolls. I think it's an amazing tool. Not so user friendly, yet, but it will get better once I have the time.

Also, I'm not sure, but I think people are confusing this with MentionBot. This doesn't appear to send any messages. This has been around for a month. MentionBot scans comments and looks for when a user is mentioned and PMs them. MentionBot is seeing the posts in /r/conspiro mentioning people and messaging them. MentionBot started today, so that's why you all suddenly know about it. The two projects are unrelated.
