Question: Why isn't the mainstream media trying to bury the NSA leak story like they do with other stories?

The Turkish protests were clearly buried deep in various MSM outlets. Why is this NSA leak front and center? Seems fishy.

I think this one is un-buryable. It's like a freaking zombie apocalypse of news stories. It's overwhelming in scope and yet affects everyone who owns a phone or computer (literally almost every American) on a personal level. The fact that every American is being tracked, monitored and spied upon by our own Government completely nullifies the notion that we are the free and open society we wanted to be.

completely nullifies the notion that we are the free and open society we wanted to be.

It's as if the one's in control are even getting tired of the illusion of freedom.

That's a interesting idea. The guise of freedom.

Maybe your right. Maybe now is the time they say fuck it and lock the whole country down.

They might say go to work, eat the food watch the tv and shut the fuck up. If you do this everything will be fine. Keep your ass in line and your won't have to worry about anything.

Maybe they are annoyed with charde and realize the really don't even need to perpatrate it any more. Americans are now such fat complacent imbeciles that they may even welcome a nanny government.

Americans are now such fat complacent imbeciles that they may even welcome a nanny government.

Yep. 90% of them will.

This was my position on why the MSM was picking it up at all. Obama said just today that the American people were now mature enough to have the debate on the balance of privacy and security. Which, in my mind means that they think that we're complacent enough to grant them what remains of our liberties.

Maybe we can petition to the Chinese, as demonstration of futility and hypocrisy of government. Just as those poor Chinese people ironically asked Obama for help(very sad circumstance considering Obama ignores 99% American petitions)

Even with this story, most Americans will continue to think this is the most free country on earth. As long as that delusion is maintained, the government can continue to encroach on freedoms.

I was wondering about this the other day. It seems foolish to change things if they are going well, so why would they? I feel like the head of propaganda division might have died or retired.

Maybe its their revenge against the governments spying on the press,

I'm fine with that too. The press should be on our side.

As long as the press keeps receiving advertising money from corporations they won't be on our side.

Sad fact, that.

They may kill Glenn Greenwald though, or should I say he may commit suicide. I mean he has been covering this quite a lot and giving it MSM attention, I feel like they may suicide him.

It's a test to see if America will freak out over it or get distracted with something else and forget about it. As long as the internet works and the TV is on the government can do no wrong.

These "leaks" are just covering whats going on in Turkey right now. Both are appalling.

My guess is the issues going on in the Golon heights between Syria and israel .. LOOK OVER AT THIS .. WHILE THIS HAPPENS

These "leaks" are just covering whats going on in Turkey right now. Both are appalling.

The internet has literally blown up over this issue. Even the liberals are saying wtf is going on.

'the internet has literally blown up'

welcome to another government watch list.

...nobody panics, because it's all "part of the plan".

But when I say that one little old mayor will die, well then everyone LOSES THEIR MINDS!

Hah we "liberals" were against this mass surveillance back in 2001 with the authorization of the Patriot Act, and lo and behold we "liberals" were right all along. It gets so annoying to be right 10 years before everyone else. I'm not shocked at all about these mass surveillance revelations.

I think the "liberal" term was really a swipe at Obamanoids. A lot of conspiracy theorists are conservative on a lot of issues, but liberal on a lot of issues too - the point is that we generally don't have allegiance to one of the two main parties' ideologies because we realize that they are both controlled by the same power.

The "Liberals" that we really hate right now are the ones who are apologists for the current administration. During the Bush years, we hated the "Neocons". Ultimately, today's "Liberals" and yesterdays "Neocons" stand (and stood) for the same things - Patriot Act, Wars, Racist Prison System, Bloated Budgets, Bank Bailouts etc. etc. etc.

If you are one of us (which I think you are) then I can understand how it is confusing for you to think of yourself as a liberal, and then see that some of us are describing "Liberals" as part of the problem. What is happening is that the word "Liberal" has taken on a new meaning for some of us recently (rather like happy people were suddenly upset to learn that they could no longer refer to themselves as "gay" when that word took on a new meaning a couple of decades ago).

I hope that explains it. I don't think it serves any of us well to create divisions among ourselves, just because we have differing beliefs on certain issues. We are all interested in discovering the hidden truth, and on a lot of the big issues, we ALL (pretty much) agree, just because common sense usually transcends political ideology. This is one of those big issues.

I agree with you entirely!

Nice. Isolate a party as if the two parties are different.

Either a tipping point has been reached or the media wants revenge against the administration for being spied on.

Yes, I see the battle of the evil powers taking place now against each other. There is no honor among thieves.

Or they want to drive our focus off turkey....

I think they just want to tell whatever story is going to fill their pockets the most... more viewers, more ad revenue.

I am in agreement, but would put it this way: "Oh, you are going to screw with us over that little tid-bit? Here's some stuff we haven't broke that is really going to make you look very bad."

Or it was intentionally released to cover up (Bilderberg maybe?) or prepare something else?

Anything is possible at this point. There is no reason at all to trust any member of this administration.

It's either because it was unable to be buried, and their silence would have been very suspicious, or there is something else happening that they're shifting attention from. Or both.

Reeks of being a disinformation campaign.

My guess is it is a distraction from the Bilderberg conference.

Bilderberg has been around for quite a while and the general public has never cared.

They lost their slight of hand and they can no longer distract the public. People are becoming very worried about their government. Asleep people that is.

Well, could the MSM be looking at the Internet and smart phones as destroying their business model? A simple solution is to get people afraid of the Internet and go back to consuming a healthy dose of MSM brainwashing.

It's a preparation for cyber war. It's the same reason that Anonymous was created. Anonymous was created to pressure corporations and government agencies to get serious about securing their technological infrastructure, and this news is being used to get everyday citizens to start using encryption and to fortify the public technological infrastructure.

This will help the Republican candidate nicely.... almost as if it were..... engineered.

PRISM started in 2007 so it'll take a lot of spin to pin this solely on the democrats.

so you think the series of grand public revelations about corruption of various government entities is just..... random occurrence?

I'm saying you can't pin it on one political party because it has operated under both parties. It would be silly for republicans to reveal the truth if they're guilty too.

right, thats fair.... but silly is the modus operandi of Fox News.

Fair enough.

I honestly think that they're allowing the story to remain this viral to gauge the reaction of the public, allowing them an easier bridge to altering media statements, etc. in "favor" of the public view. E.g. Stating metadata was just "outgoing/incoming calls and duration", when in fact it is much, much more detailed than that.

The public needs to feel like they have a voice. So making planned responses to subjects like this gives the "illusion" of the counter-point being heard. So the by stander watching the news debate against itself makes the viewer feel like the point of view was heard, reviewed, and refuted although zero discussion actually took place because you cannot talk to a television broadcast/news article.

There is something bigger happening that isn't being covered...scary considering how big this is.

This has been going on since at least 2006, when I learned of it. It is very odd that they come out and announce it now...unless you realize that they had to do so at some point if they want to use the data to bust people publicly (as opposed to saying that crooks butt-dialed 911). That's the creepy part, to me.

They also had to announce it at some point because it is only a step on the ladder to hell they seem to be pushing us all down. Once the public accepts this crap, further crap can be rained (reigned?) down upon us.

Rats fleeing a sinking ship.

Whoelse foresees a big event to distract the public, once all the news is out?

Does anyone think this will lead to Turkey like protests in America? I think the reaction to this will tell you if things are ever going to change or not. I've allways thought for anything big to happen there needs to be a shared experiance of everyone being violated. The only people not affected by this are the Amish.

People refuse to protest like they did in Turkey for the simple fact that those so inclined quickly run out of steam. This story though is old news, like 2005 old. Something else, something beyond Turkey, beyond Bilderberg, beyond PRISM is going on. The question is What?

That is the question. I hope it all comes out one day and everyone takes a big step back and has a giant collective "ohhhhhhhhhh" moment, forgets all this bullshit madness, which has got completly out of control.

This, maybe?

i see some truth in the theory that they want restless natives to know they can, are and have been watching, listening and recording, for a loooongtime

An individual News Agency decided to stand up to the US gov't. Others followed, for once. While the US is trying to soften the magnitude of the US crimes, it's taking this chance.

For a while, the US protected and coddled the media, the media then listened and were directed by the US. The US violated the media's perceived protection and they were looking for an opportunity. This was it.

Maybe another 911-style event is just about to happen.

Because they want people to let the 2013 farm bill pass without incident and MONSANTO PROTECTION ACT 2.0

Yep. Contact your local congress rep. to let them know how you feel.

People in America are more interested in what happens in America than what happens in Turkey.

The MSM puts out what people are interested in.

Because it directly affected a particularly large group of consumers. CNN isn't burying it, but currently isn't a making it a priority. But few international stories and Bieber being launched into space seem important...

EDIT: Ok, NOW there's a breaking news update about it.

Actually all of the recent scandals have been broken by non-US sources, allbethose foreign corporate media, like The Guardian.

It is somewhat surprising to see them widely echoed in the controlled US MSM though.

Perhaps the NSA has been using its spying to blackmail other powers who are playing the media card on the NSA?

Because it's not anti-left, it's pro-journalism, and nobody specifically might lose their job.

Because it's not anti-left

Fox News is one of the largest mainstream media outlets and they don't bury anti-left news.

Because it's burying something else. Watch the magician's other hand.

Maybe the white hats have the upper hand and are using it to remove a piece of the surveillance state that has been regularly used against them.

It's being reported by a foreign media organization with a reputation for thorough, solid if left-biased reporting. That they did it along with the remaining trusted one from local written media. Not easy to ignore.

Plus... it's Obama season. Every attack that makes the administration look bad is good for certain political actors. That some of the media said nothing when similar crimes by past administration were committed or came to light is something they won't bother reminding us.

In my opinion, it's so it doesn't get out of hand. As long as they can go along with the initial story, they are able to take the wheel and shift public opinion in the future. This way, they are able to maintain credibility and then downplay the story in the future. They will find a way to justify it and calm everyone down.

It's a distraction, and "they" know that because of the polarization of our political system, that we'll be too busy bickering to do anything about it.

Because it's more marketable.

Towards the end of the program complicity is offered and accepted by the unwary. You are currently being offered complicity and a sharing of the guilt. Who is your father?

bildeberg?

Acclimatization.

It is possible that none of the spying is possible and the leak was manufactured to instill fear in people about communications. Think about it-- what would they do if they feared an uprising or something that required communications and they felt outnumbered? If you can't hear everything what is the next best thing... to say that you can. The same could be said about drones, nukes, etc. The moral of my comment is that if you don't see it with your own eyes you should have a healthy level of skepticism.

they're after Obama's ass and this time they'll succeed.

umm...oh nevermind

JEB/RUBIO '16!

BUSH 3! This time it'll work! We promise!

Probably because it makes obama look bad and they like to do that.
