Is it just me?

Is it just me or are all the news ( including local) goin off of one transcript? I'm bettin you guys have seen the news lately and have seen the humpback whales, all the news that I have seen say exact quote " Watch, as these humpback whales almost had this diver for lunch." I have noticed things like this more often and it's pretty annoying because once things like this are heard, they can not be un-heard. Have you guys noticed this, too?

Jesus christ, this isn't even funny...

Investigative journalism is supposed to be work from the bottom-up. Whatever we have is a top-down affair

there it is! i was trying so damn hard to remember this one

How does this even happen? Must have been a glitch in the matrix that day.

For some reason I have lost all respect for teleprompter reading puppet morons

What the fuck ... who's supplying these scripts then?

These are just like wire stories (AP, Reuters, etc.) in newspapers, except the source is often left vague. The anchors read the intros or they can write their own, just as newspapers sometimes use their own headlines for wire stories. Sometimes the local reporters do an entire voice-over for the story. Newspapers always label the wire service stories clearly, but on TV, not so much.

The first story, "If you’ve filled up your tank lately, you don’t need us to tell you that gas prices are back on the rise," is from CNN Newsource. That's also the source for "Economic factors may take some spring out the Easter Bunny's step this year". That one just ends with a sign-off, "For Consumer Watch, I'm Karin Caifa", which doesn't mention CNN, so you can't tell if it's local content or not.

The second one, "Conan O'Brien may be about to push the envelope" is from CBS Newspath.

EDIT: corrections

you don't need us to tell you that news a scripted and pre-approved.

It's one of the reasons I quit watching T.V. People here on reddit make better journalists IMO.

Your opinion isn't humble?

There would be an 'H' if it was humble... :P

It's a silent H

No, it can't be... it has no "H". Had his opinion been humble he would have said IMHO. But, conversely, had his opinion been ridiculous, I do n think he would have said "IMRO". But actually, it was well informed, maybe IMWIO?

I concur

I think we are witnessing the final phase of agenda driven reporting (before it is nothing but 24/7 propaganda ) and it stems from the shift in revenue generation. This is where it gets quite frightening in regards to manipulated financial markets and the dramatic effect it has on big business. For all intents and purposes these media companies are now directly controlled banker tools thanks to the incredible power of the massive money making machine (manipulated commodity, equity and currency markets) that has turned the bond market into an abomination. The media corporations are able to skim from the hedge fund money laundering machines so the drive to bring in real revenue fades (this is an obvious oversimplification as I believe they have handed over complete equity control to certain hedge funds so they can be leveraged on demand). Now this is coupled with their inability to evolve advertising to fit in the new instant information driven space (DVRs, internet, on demand etc.). It is very attractive to guarantee revenue and profit since real value based profit generation has become increasingly complex as you have failed to adapt to the on demand reality. Access to this insider club is assured as long as you serve the agenda. So now you worry only about the agenda even as advertising dwindles and becomes less and less effective. The only safe zone outside of this agenda based reporting is fluff. It is very telling when they show the same cat pictures and happy videos virally spreading through the internet while ignoring massive conspiracies come to light. Fluff is the final form of free press before it dies completely. It is the only thing they can report on without needing clearance from a obfuscated banker.

Yes.

What the hell? You're still watching TV news? /half_sarcasm

I heard this guy earlier report about the "royal prince" being introduced, and how they were all waiting for "the money shot", and they kept repeating that over and over. "We're all waiting patiently for that glorious money shot!"

At least their unoriginality is funny as hell at times.

Its a wire service. Its like AP for tv stations. Its not some grand conspiracy, its an open business practice. It used to be smaller stations but now it seem just about everyone is using the wire service. This is no different than the fact that every jackass morning radio DJ tells the same jokes - because they pay a company for them.

Its not a conspiracy, its the tv business....

I like to call it a curriculum.

German here.

"Yes" there are american standards here.

Yes, they manipulate, like there is no tomorrow.

.

They're called "talking points"

AKA = robot repeat points...you robots must repeat this every 15 minutes so every sheep in your locale hears it, since it's "news."

And who thought those twins from Good Morning Vietnam would be out of a job after the war?

There are a bunch of news stations nationwide. They definitely aren't able to all come up with their own script daily. Think about it. It simply comes from somewhere and they read it with personal flair. Continue downvoting me as if my statement wasn't completely neutral.
