Was "Hyperloop" just a big distraction?

Seems odd Elon Musk would come out and say he's got a technology coming out and then said he'd hope others would work on it and that's that.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I actually saw some interview with him from like 3 or 4 years ago where he said basically the same thing the media is all over right now.

Yeah and people are desperate to get off the petroleum economy, they knew if they put out some hope people would latch on to it.

Elon Musk is just another pawn in the NWO plan in awakening people to the truth so they can take over

If he spent all his time and his entire fortune on the Hyperloop project it would be a drop in the bucket. That project is so massive it would take the resource of the entire country (and millions of people) to complete. Musk knows this. He's trying to get people motivated to work on his idea. But, unless someone can come up with a few trillion dollars, it's just pie-in-the-sky.

I was under the impression that the system is wicked cheap
1 casualredditreader 2013-08-15
All project planners say that to get started. But, as time goes on the cost keeps going up. Look at the "Big Dig" in Boston or the high-speed rail project in California. They ended up costing billions more than originally planned.
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
I thought it was like 4 times cheaper

The US is currently highly inept and corrupt and anything here would cost a fortune - period. Other cultures could do it for far less.

Who was distracted by it?
I saw one post on Reddit and have not seen it mentioned one other time.
Why do you think it's odd that Elon Musk wants to collaborate with other companies/technologies?
Hope this doesn't sound aggressive, it just doesn't make sense in ymy eyes that this is some distraction. If it is, it's doing pretty poorly.
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
Did you watch Colbert Report and Conan last night? They're still talking about it.
I think it's odd that he came out with a big idea but doesn't seem to want to work on it.
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
What do you mean he doesn't want to work on it?
I haven't gotten that same feeling at all, and I don't think the fact that he wants other companies to work along side means he doesn't.
It seems to me that him wanting other companies to join in, means he def wants to work on it, and see where it can go in the future. Something this big needs many other industries to help to make it a reality.
I did not see either of those though, i'm not that big of a TV watcher.

Nobody’s Planning to Actually Build It
Just a minor detail here, but someone has to step up and build the Hyperloop, which means raising a bunch of money, getting California to okay a big double-barreled tube to be built along I-5 between San Francisco and L.A., and a whole list of other details. Musk may have pitched the Hyperloop concept today, but he has no intent to actually do anything with it right now: during a Tesla earnings call last week, Musk said, “I don’t have any plans to execute, because I must remain focused on SpaceX and Tesla.”
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
I agree it is still pretty early, and there may not be any sort of funding at this point. I still don't believe he has no intention of working on it to get something going in the future. He just released all this to the public recently, so I think we still have a lot of time before we can say nothing will come of it.
Thanks for the article, def an interesting read.
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
That's a lot of "I think" and "I believe".
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
Yes, and this is all my personal opinion.
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
Yeah but earlier you were pushing it as some sort of fact until I shut your ass down.
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
My first comment I stated "in my eyes", which would refer to being my personal opinion. Also I would not say you "shut my ass down".
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
Yeah but that's after I said the guy wasn't working on it after I saw him say it in an interview. You assumed I was just working from personal opinion when I wasn't. I totally shut you down dude.
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
You might want to re-read my comments then. Every single one I refer to it as my opinion, not fact. And nope, you didn't shut me down at all. I'm still going and still stand behind everything i've said.
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
I think it's odd that he came out with a big idea but doesn't seem to want to work on it.
The problem is you were assuming I'm operating on personal opinion.
The fact that you replied to my comment at all with "I did not see either of those though, i'm not that big of a TV watcher." after you said "Who was distracted by it? I saw one post on Reddit and have not seen it mentioned one other time." means you shouldn't be in the "I'm a sentinel for everything" game that you seem to want to portray yourself in.
Why are you wasting my time?
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
"I" being the key word. And yes, I have not seen one single person outside of Reddit even mention this in public. I have not seen it anywhere on local and national news.
Who would you say is distracted by this announcement? What did it distract those people from?
You have no one to blame but yourself for your lost time, I didn't choose to reply to myself. No one is forcing you to reply to me, that is your own free will.
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
Yeah but you think you're so up to speed on current events that you think you can try to cast doubt on other comments because you're soooo on top of shit.
The public.
NSA collects all communications, all the wars.
Someone has teach you a lesson, might as well be me.
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
If this is a distraction from that, it's doing a horrible job. I have not seen any impact from that at all.
No, I do not think I am up on current events, I do however believe I can share my personal opinion.
You have taught me nothing past the fact of misunderstanding my comments.
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
Really? Seems like you're using it as a good distraction with me.
Personal opinions are for r/news or r/politics, people usually want substance in r/conspiracy.
I taught you Elon Musk doesn't plan on doing anything with hyperloop.
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
How in the hell am I using it as a distraction on you when your the person who made the post about it. You distracted yourself.
And really now, is that why this is the first sentence on the sidebar talking about the sub is;
"This subreddit is a thinking ground, above all else we respect everyone's opinions"
and ending with this;
"Respect other views and opinions, keep an open mind.
And nah, you taught me they are focusing on current projects at this time. Which makes complete sense.
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
Because of the circle jerk you've created here.
Doesn't say I have to like/want them.
Since when? Everyone knows if you want to do really well in business you need to have multiple irons in the fire.
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
Your claim of Personal opinions are for other subs is completely wrong though. This sub completely welcomes personal opinions, as said in the description. Being here, you should expect them. I could care less what you think of mine, but that's not going to stop me from sharing it.
It would be dumb to focus primarily on the hyperloop at this point seeing as the idea itself was just announced. It is still int he early stages of even full development. The reason they asked for other companies to chime in on the project is because it is completely unrealistic to go at this with just Elon Musk and no other companies to help with infrastructure/materials.
1 Billistic 2013-08-15
Might welcome them but that don't mean we have to care about them.
Alright.
Dude. The petrol economy would never let it happen. Any company that would try to help out would immediately be bought and dismantled by BP
1 moparornocar 2013-08-15
That may be, but that doesn't mean no one is going to try. People said the exact same thing when solar panels and wind mills first became a reality. The same thing is said anytime a large life changing technology is invented. Keep that attitude and nothing will happen.
I guess I just see the positive in things, and have faith in good over powering evil in the grand scheme of things.
