I agree, mate. It seems like the last few years have been geared towards forming an image of Somalia in the public's mind. Even in academic circles they only highlight the pirates, not the reason for their actions. I always hear people referring to Somalia as a 'failed state' (I've never been there, so it just might be), but to me it's exactly how the Middle East was showcased before the invasion. Orientalism at work again, slowly building an image through propaganda in order to gain support for western dominance. Soon it will be 'our duty' to help the people of Somalia.

It's absolutely true. Only a month ago the WH directed State to exempt Somalia from ITAR regulations that banned mass commercial arms sales to Somalia due to their use of child soldiers. It is now legal to sell them arms regardless of their child conscripts.
