Internet down in southeastern pennsylvania.

My brother just called me asking if I had internet. He and atleast one friend don't have internet (two different ISPs). Anybody in that area still have internet?
I ask you guys because I've always thought the internet would be the first thing to go down if moves were being made.

Internet is down allll over the place. Brother said 30% of ISPs are down or something like that... Verizon FiOS is down for sure. Comcast seems to be up.

We lost internet on tuesday for nearly a full day. Steam chat showed i lost connection at 12:18 am PST. Called Uverse tech support and was on hold for 4 hours from, 12:36am to 4:30am before a man with a thick indian accent answered. Walked me through the list of everything i'd already done and then asked me to disconnect everything and try again, and he'd call me back. After 10 minutes of no call, I called again, and this time got an automated response saying there was an outage in my area. The net came back on for a few minutes off and on over the day, but wasnt solid until the afternoon.

It's back. Verizon was down in Boston, New York, Philly, and others. Maybe this is a test run??

How is the weather in the area I'm getting storm warnings on google so maybe that's what it is?

it is windy in PA. nothing too crazy though, have had internet through much worse. still plausible though. http://www.outageanalyzer.com/ that strikes me though. it has affected areas all over the damn world.

Solar flare maybe. Sun has been kicking a lot out and our magnetic field is weakining could also explain why it was so short instead of a line needing to be repaired or something.

which shows up the old adage that the interwebs is self repairing and self routing, mostly likely many single points of failure in any countries internet infrastructure.
its all in the marketing claims.

Isn't this the 3rd time in two weeks?
2 IndependentSession 2013-11-01
Is it? This is the first I've heard of.

One on the 14th, one on the 19th.

These are the two instances I'm familiar with. Searched on Google and some more results came up.

In Hawaii last month on Big Island it went down. The news reported a cable had been accidentaly cut?! Then cell phone towers went down a week later for almost a whole day.

I live an hour north of philly and we have power outages all over. Wind is breaking tree limbs.
1 Highguy4706 2013-11-01
I'm pretty sure there are websites to check that stuff.
3 KhalifaKid 2013-11-01
I'm one of the people with down internet, can you check somewhere?
4 human_rationale 2013-11-01
Yup, it's down there in PA and in dozens of other places throughout the US.

Los Angeles and San Francisco also seem to be hit.

There seem to be 5 hosting locations in red, affecting a majority of the country in some way.

I'm in a red shaded area and have't had any issues though, so I don't know to what extent it actually goes.
2 KhalifaKid 2013-11-01
do you have verizon? i'm back on now, but my friend isn't.
2 human_rationale 2013-11-01
No, maybe that's why I didn't have a problem this time, I'm on AT&T.
3 Highguy4706 2013-11-01
Yeah need a town or internet provider.
Edit: service provider is all I need. Bad weather in are is my guess for the outage. Doubt they would take down the internet and not phones if something was going down.
2 IndependentSession 2013-11-01
What are they?
2 Highguy4706 2013-11-01
Downdetector.com is one sure there are others. Also appears to be bad weather in the area so that might be causing the outage.

Ah, yeah, greetings from the sun. :D

Don't panic.
