Why isn't there an /r/supernaturatard?

0  2014-01-31 by Canadian_POG

I have been thinking lately, there are plenty of subs that discuss controversial beliefs, opinions, UFOs, ghosts & what have you, but there aren't any subs dedicated to "satire" of those, so why is /r/conspiratard?

This is not an invite for /r/conspiratard members, I'm asking /r/conspiracy why they think conspiracy theories are a better target for mockery, I don't really need to know why someone who does needs to justify it, but how this community feels about it & their ideas as to why it is targeted.

I ask because after all the activity I was witness to awhile back, while civil discourse is good, & calm discussion about certain conspiracy theories can be enjoyable, I noticed a lot of personal attacks & character defamation, which is never relevant to the discussions, & if you ask me, just disrupts the conversation, which is convenient. (But that's entirely speculation)

Is it just because we are a popular subreddit, or is there something I'm missing, I am a relatively new redditor after all, 4-5 months IIRC, or maybe I'm mistaken & there is a satirical subreddit for every controversial one, though I failed to find any.

If this post is in any violations of the rules I apologise & understand if it is removed.

The reason being is Shills and normal people drinking their kool-aid.

this sub literally gets harassed just for not believing a official narrative. We see shadowbans and posts removed daily. This non-stop harassment was meant to deter us, but we have found it reinforces the truth: We have come closer to the reality of our government's actions and there is a active effort to try to silence that.

Well I figured that is why, but as for the kool-aid drinkers, I'm fine with criticism of my views, but sometimes it just gets out of hand when they bring it to every many posts here.

[EDIT]; Uh fixed a few words.

Nobody cares whether other people believe in UFOs or ghosts. The conspiratard sub is agenda driven.

It definitely seems so, subs like /r/Paranormal are full of "wild claims" but you don't see the conspiratard sub jumping on them.

It's perfectly natural for a mature individual to spend time mocking other people that have opinions that they deem silly...or is it?

I for one, do not think there is anything natural about it. :)

Oh, come on. We all know that mentally healthy people spend an inordinate amount of time and energy on people that they think are insane. They care so much about you and want to lead you back on the right path by displaying their animosity towards you.

It's like how I spend at least five hours a week trying to "help" the members of /r/bigfoot by calling them retards and tinfoil hatters. Oh wait... I forgot that I don't do that at all.

Thanks for that. It's an extreme rarity that I actually laugh out loud while reading a comment.

ROFL yeah it's like, "hey I'm sane, I know this because 99% of my time on Reddit is dedicated to calling people I hate retards because they have views that I deem insane."

It really makes you wonder who is really insane.

Or who really has an agenda.

Yeah that's what I mean, It's offensive to label people insane, whereas "agenda" gets the point across, my mistake.

I find that many of the weird accounts that frequent this sub often use the tactics of disinformation and propaganda, which only makes me more suspicious of them and only makes me think there is something they do not want people to know about. Whether they realize it or not, they do their agenda a great disservice. I find these tools invaluable:

Propaganda and Debating Techniques

Well this is definitely deeper than I gathered, but most certainly helpful, basically when I see these tactics, should I just ignore them? I feel that I would probably do an equal disservice to this sub if I try and argue the points, because I am not a smart man, but I have to say, these links are quite helpful.

[EDIT]; And to note, I have seen these tactics used, specifically the "anger trolling" and it was rampant in /r/conspiratocracy IIRC.

Once you think someone is using those tactics deliberately, I would call them out. If they persist with the stupid stuff, they are wasting your time by trying to have the last word. I would ignore them completely.

Well I've never had a problem letting an asshole/troll think they've won, least now I know how to better deal with it, thanks.

Isn't the answer to your question obvious?

To me no, it really isn't, I'll quote myself;

I am a relatively new redditor after all, 4-5 months IIRC

& I am also not a smart man, so explain it to me if the answer is obvious.

http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2010/02/ridicule-of-conspiracy-theories-focuses-on-diffusing-criticism-of-the-powerful.html

Similarly, psychologists who serve the government eagerly label anyone “taking a cynical stance toward politics, mistrusting authority, endorsing democratic practices, … and displaying an inquisitive, imaginative outlook” as crazy conspiracy theorists.

Well this is my original suspicion, but then those very people turn around & say I'm crazy for thinking it.

An entire subreddit of people in fact, seemingly dedicated to it, and then turn & say it's just satire whilst calling the userbase "retarded"

I guess most people here just ignore it, but then some people from that sub bring that activity here, then go back to /r/conspiratard & make a post about it, & it kinda strikes me as obsessive.

You mean /r/atheism?

/r/atheism seems to focus on what they find wrong with the Abrahamic religions, much less about mocking people who specifically believe in ghosts & UFO's, & post experiences about them like /r/paranormal

[EDIT]; Also it isn't called Chritianiatard, Islamatard, or Judeatard.

No, we just destroy religions there.

Destroy religions, no; make yourselves look like twats, yes.

Also a good point.

Aaaand I fucked up the title, FML

Ghosts and UFO's don't get updated very frequently and there's not much variation.

Conspiracy on the other hand is a very broad topic which also includes UFO's and is constantly updated with new ideas and events.

Yeah, but why is most of the content on /r/conspiratard aimed on the most part at mocking this sub for political topics?

Why spend so much time poking fun at certain claims about 9/11, but not at people who claim to see ghosts?

If being updated more often is the excuse then that's basically saying it's more fun to laugh at something that will get more attention.

You know you could just go over to /r/conspiratard and ask them.

Although you might get banned from this sub for posting there...

Yeah I was considering that, but after seeing the top comments within the top posts, most of them calling people from this sub "Tards" kinda disgusted me, and I felt I don't need their opinion, just the people here will do.

That tells me that they only welcome you if you go along with their view that this sub for retards, which is offensive to so many people, and I don't need to know why they do it, but rather what does /r/conspiracy think about it.

Because it's unecessary.

Well why is mocking, or "satire" of this topic necessary?

Why is calling 212,023 (roughly 5-600 at any given time) strangers retarded necessary? Seems kinda immature if you ask me.

conspiratard is about balance, sure, there's a lot of shills and what now, I'm a shill myself and I'm sure many people in this sub have me tagged as such.

It's all about balance.

I'm a shill myself and I'm sure many people in this sub have me tagged as such.

I have not yet, but if you say so...

Calling people retarded is not balance in my book.

Based on my own experience, I prolly used to fall into their same belief system, that while I could reconcile that yeah, shit like Watergate and JFK happened, but in general, the world and humanity was good and government was a good thing and blah blah blah.

Don't stress about the "trolls", guys. They just haven't seen the larger picture yet. It's part of the exposure method, we get small clues along the way and our ego rejects anything our denial can't handle. They'll get here eventually. Love them til they love themselves.

Well said, I suppose I don't really "hate" anyone, but I certainly will never understand the need to call people retarded because they believe something labeled controversial, that was the main reason I made this post.
