Will Ferrel is successfully convincing redditors to put out 300K for College for Cancer- but here is what 10 minutes of research shows about that charity.

Cancer for College offers one-time scholarships in the amount of $500, $1,000, $1,500 and $3,000. We also offer our premier perpetual scholarship which equates to $4,000 a year for four years.

Hmmm, a maximum of $1000 a year seems like the bare minimum to be called a scholarship, but okay, lets do more research.

http://www.cancerforcollege.org/Where_the_Funds_Go_.html

The charity has shifted it's focus into building a sustainable scholarship endowment fund with an ultimate goal of $10 million. All annual profit after expenses is going toward the building of this endowment fund.

So how much is going into this fund and how much is going to scholarships? (Look closely at the page)

2011 EXPENSES: $263,250 - SCHOLARSHIPS

2011: $333,000 TO THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

2012 EXPENSES: $137,861 - SCHOLARSHIPS

2012: $756,302 TO THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Hmmm, according to that page, they gave half in 2012 of what they gave in 2011, even though total income was about the same.

But whatever, its going into the fund. Lets do some research on the Cancerforcollege scholarship fund.

Wait a minute. There is zero information available about the College for Cancer scholarship fund. I wonder how the numbers will break down regarding the running and organization of this fund.

I want to trust that it will be honest, but its hard to be so naive in a world where even disaster relief is exploited.

Just saying...

Wait just a minute Will Ferrel is a celebrity who makes perverse jokes. Fall to your knees and worship him.

Doesn't matter, they need to be transparent about the fund. Who is involved in running it, ect.
