The existence of geoengineering as a field of research does not imply that "chemtrails" are real, I.e. that there is a large scale intentional atmospheric chemical dispersion program going on.

The only large scale atmospheric release of chemicals is the emission of gigatons of CO2 and CH4 from fossil fuel combustion, agriculture and industry.

Geoengineering is a thing. We do that. Documented methods, evidence, and results.

Chemtrails are not. There is no evidence whatesoever for what you and others call chemtrails. And if you think about it, the idea that a secret plan to spray billions of tons of toxic chemicals in the sky is being executed and can be clearly seen everyday but has no evidence to support it despite its prevalence, you would realize that your notion of implausibility is misplaced.

They do spray things out of aircraft. Silver Iodide or Dry Ice. In an attempt to reduce the impact of hail storms.

However, the pictures that you have commonly shown believed to be "chemtrails" are actually that of contrails, which is water vapour, co2 and small amounts of jet fuel.

If you think geoengineering is not being performed by aircraft as you stated in the /r/ELI5 post, why then did you obviously go through my comments and follow me here to comment on the exact same links that were posted in the /r/ELI5 post?

Please don't be taken in by this pile of links. There are many reasons chemtrails aren't a thing. The two most prominent being a complete lack of evidence and the absurdity of the logistics involved.

Geo-engineering and chemtrails are very different things. Chemtrail believers will present you with a patent for some method of whether modification, then ask you to believe that this proves that the white trails across the sky are poisonous chemicals. In fact, there is nothing to link the two. Widescale geo-engineering was banned by international treaty a few years ago, although experimental projects are still allowed and who knows what is going on behind our backs. But there is a simple scientific explanation for why there are so many contrails in the sky these days, no conspiracy or chemicals required.

It's not as if your government is going to send you a personalized letter informing you that they perform weather manipulation and are performing human experimentation on unwitting people. Also, just because a person does not want to believe in something does not make it any less real.

Moreover it's a vector for bio-warfare and used in conjunction with VPRE for giving real time mapping of terrain and the movement on it in a warzone.

There have been multiple reasons to perform spraying in the past as I'm sure there are multiple reasons to continue to do it today. I didn't know about VPRE, it sounds very interesting.
