This is why I stepped down as a mod.

165  2014-03-04 by SovereignMan

  • It's time to get back to my normal life. I had no idea being a mod would be so time consuming in order to do a good job.

  • Spring is coming! Lots of stuff to do besides sitting at my desk. Yard work. Outbuilding repairs (no, not outhouse). Golf (note to self: replace broken pull cart). Etc. Etc. Etc.

  • I'm free again!

  • I obligated myself to take on the task of being a mod here against my own better judgement. I agreed to "give it a try". I've always been aware that mods frequently come under attack for doing their job. Now I've learned just how intense those attacks can be. I'll just say that those most recent attacks have actually come at a pretty good time. I had already been considering stepping down and they were the last few bits of data needed to finalize my decision. If not for the first three points I made above, I would not be stepping down. It was only a matter of timing.

I really do appreciate the huge amount of support I received while a mod. Thank you all very much.

That's all I have to say on the matter.

Oh well, guess what, reddit doesn't fucking matter! Have a great summer!

This thread has been linked to from elsewhere on reddit.

I am a bot. Comments? Complaints? Send them to my inbox!

I was going to link this, but this bot only took 17 seconds and beat me to it :)

I wonder why the bot replied to my comment?

That's its purpose...it informs us when /r/conspiracy threads are linked elsewhere on reddit. It's actually really useful.

Yeah, I love this bot. I guess I was unaware that it replied to comments instead of posting a standalone.

it's just letting you know that somewhere else on reddit, someone linked to your comment directly- not the thread, but your comment.

dun Dun DUN

But... All my imaginary internet points!

Don't wor. I got you covered.

You were voted in by the users of the sub, so as far as I'm concerned you're welcome back anytime.

I consider you a friend and I'm proud to do so.

Enjoy yourself, but please don't stop contributing to this sub, I always know to pay attention if you are OP.

Thanks SovereignMan for your hard work. I hope you still post here as often as you do!

Thanks for all the hard work you put in. Many of us greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for all you've done here sir, you were by far and away the most active mod I have ever seen and this place was better for it.

I hope you stay around as a member and converse, your perspective is invaluable.

Also have fun as you enjoy life!

Thanks for doing what is otherwise a very thankless job.

Come back any time now, y'hear?

Hope you still post and contribute.

Thanks for the update. Have a cool day!

You're not the mod I want to get rid of. He's still happily moding.

reddit is almost dead anyway. there's not much worth fighting for here, but thanks for your efforts.

games without frontiers

I came to this thread too late to know you, but from the posts you make I'd call you a good person to your face. Even if you are not a mod I hope you will still be an active member on Reddit. Don't let the assholes in our midst get to you.

You were very good SM, thanks for the effort.

So basically, what you're saying is, you got shit to do. Good on u.

Thanks for taking on the task. I hope we still see you as a regular contributor, as I've always enjoyed your posts. The time and effort you put in are much appreciated.

Saw the writing on the wall, albeit 'twas comic sans.

I fondly remember when he banned, then unbanned me after a lengthy, passionate discourse. He will be remembered as a mod for the ages. I shall sing his praises and lament his departure.

Damn, you were my highest upvoted mod on here compared to the rest. Oh well, enjoy yourself dude.

Farewell.

Sad to see you go. Sucks that a good mod is stepping down, as there are not many good mods on this site (except for this sub and /r/worldpolitics).

Thanks for your hard work brotha! Stay around here though will ya?

All my gratitude and thanks for your service! I sure as hell wouldn't want that job. Although I am now accepting job offers to continue spreading crazy conspiracy theories online but on a full-time basis. It seems like the reddit admins aren't willing to take a stand on this sort of thing, and it's hard to bring down the Illuminati on a fry-cook's salary.

Do not filter my world view, nor silence my Spring, young one! Your freedom is indeed a battle weary globe that protests in blood and deception. This is your future, that of my children and their children and I refused to sit idle. Please do not allow your Freedom to become Warrants of Death by Silence of Speech!

I wish you well and hope you will continue to contribute, enlighten and return, as you like, to school my old ass!

I will not go willingly into the abyss.

Dream great dreams, reddit! Bigger! Harder! Stronger!

RIP, Arron Schwartz.

MIC will exact a toll and when it hits America, there will be nowhere to run!

All the best that was brilliant, sublimated and then inured...

Your voice is all that matters, where you are!

Totally understandable, you did a good job though.

Thanks for all your work, and for helping me out with a stalker. Good luck and best wishes!

Your name seems familiar. Like has if you've popped up in my inbox debating me on some shit I'm probably wrong about.

If it's any consolation you were probably correct! Now go and enjoy your summer and thank you!

Have fun living life man!

Thanks for your contribution SovereignMan. Hope you have a fun year!

Understandable & justifiable, have a good one bro.

Thank you, SovereignMan.

You and I never had much interaction, but you did a fine job as an even handed, level headed mod - and in one of the most trying and taxing subs on Reddit.

Here's a vote of thanks for a seemingly thankless job, and I look forward to your future contributions.

Did it have anything to do with the stress of having to silence certain people as part of your moderator role? Do you feel the modifications to Rule 10 benefited the community at all? Or only of benefit to the shills. The professional paid infiltrators that we all know are here and fighting with all their might to silence our open discussions.

Damn, I thought you were awesome.

(Now waiting for the shill accusations to start! You've secretly been undercover the whole time, subverting this sub, because you called a bunch of idiots out for being a bunch of idiots!)

In all seriousness, I'll miss your moderation, but don't stray too far from the sub, please! You're often a voice of reason and logic!

That'll do, SM. That'll do.

I bet being a mod on a conspiracy forum notches the attacks up one level.

Thanks for all of your good work and enjoy your new found freedom!

Thanks for all your time and effort.

I know your time here as a mod was short but very active, and I think for that the community here is very grateful, I know I am.

I will celebrate your return either as poster or mod. Either way we look forward to having you back after a well deserved vacation!

Great job, I hope you enjoy your freedom!

Spring is coming, try to fit some protest in your schedule

I think he worked too hard is the problem.

Farewell.

Next comment like that will earn you a ban. You've clearly been asking for it.

Ok.

AIN'T SPRING LOOKIN' GOODER NOW? HIGH FIVE!

Good riddance

there's no need for mods - there should be personalised options to show or hide posts flagged by users as racist, offensive, spam and the like.

Free speech is over-rated anyway.

you have another subreddit devoted souly to attacking this one

To be fair, /r/conspiratard focuses on a lot more than just this sub. Only about 5 or 6 of their frontpage posts are connected to /r/conspiracy.
