Small/Interesting cannabis hypocrisy/conspiracy noticed by a redditer during Dr. Sanjay Guptas AMA

I was reading the AMA when I came across an interesting question being posed by a redditer:

The Question was the following: "This might get buried but I just thought to ask, as a neurosurgeon would you recommend medical marijuana to traumatic brain injury patients?"

Dr.G's response: "So glad you asked about this. I think we will get to the point where this is a viable treatment option. You should look at the data around patent 6630507. It is a patent held by our own department of health and human services for this very reason."

Here is the link to the patent:

If you noticed the filing date, it was filed back in 2001, and and some indications that it may have been filed even earlier (1999).

I think the following comment from another redditor sums up exactly my concern.

"Dr. Gupta, You mentioned this patent in a recent news article. I was wondering if you had read the filing date of the patent (2001)? If this patent is legitimate, wouldn't that mean that cannabinoid treatments would likely be beneficial in the management of myocardial infarction and stroke? What are the moral implications of such information and such patent being sat on for over 10 years, when this medicine may have proved beneficial for millions of people who suffer from cardiac and neural ischemic events? What questions does this raise regarding our policymakers and oversight organizations such as the NIDA, DEA, FDA, etc that have consistently rejected any claims of medical benefits, while restricting research and access to this potential medicine?"

Should be noted that the patent is was filed by the United States Of America.

Posted this here before. The hypocrisy is severe, and in line with another disturbing reality- cannabis is listed as Schedule I (like heroin, having no medicinal value) when grown in your backyard but Schedule III when made in a laboratory and sold as Marinol.

Feds Patented Medical Marijuana Even While They Were Fighting It

What's your point?

I've notice threw your post history you go threw a pattern of asking a question, then Eventually threw the topic you try to be negative or derailing threw the topic. Or sometimes Random stuff.

…did you mean "through?" Your comment is basically incomprehensible.

ah yes you commonly do this comment type as a follow up to someones response to you.

I've notice that quite frequently in your follow up posts.

Kay.

then comes a sarcastic remark of a innocent matter.

Not sure you know what "sarcastic" means.

I can't take you seriously, your patterns already been identified, and your responses are going generic textbook like.

I'm all broke up.

now your just getting Random.

Kay.

same response and previous, looks like your running out of material.

Or I'm just bored senseless.

yet you continue to post on this subreddit.

So do you, chumsy.

well theres several hundred other subreddits around, you should considerer exploring them sometime.... just don't go to certain ones... certain things are pretty disturbing.

Thanks for that completely useless advice.

thank yourself for continuing this conversation with me in hopes that you would feel like your worth someones time.

Kay.

you've said that like 3 times.

Yup. Sounds right.

yeah you said it 3 times

Mmmokay.

why didn't you just say that earlier instead of saying the same thing 3 times?

Haha, need to work on being heckled.

That's interesting. You say it's basically incomprehensible but you comprehended it exactly. Even the mistake.

The filing date for the patent was from 2001. The patent shows that the United States Government being the ones who filed it.

The description of the patent goes on and talks about the many medical benefits including prophylactic curative and palliative treatment along with having antioxidant properties. Some pathologies that are mentioned that do respond positively include ischemic disease (like heart attack and stroke) age related pathologies such as dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, inflammatory diseases , autoimmune diseases and even HIV.

Cannabis CLEARLY has medicinal value, yet it falls under a schedule 1 class substance. That means that the same government that is filing patents to capitalize on the medicinal benefits, is also stating at the same time that cannabis has no medicinal value, that it is unsafe, and highly dangerous.

Its through this legislation that the DEA enforces its drug laws/wars and policies, putting thousands of people in prisons and jails, ultimately destroying many of their lives while meeting certain political and economic agendas through the judicial system, private prisons and other corrupt methods.

At the same time they are figuring out methods of recovering losses for the day it is legalized through the DEMANDS of the people when they are no longer able to capitalize on its demonization. They will be ready with their pharmaceuticals.

I think about the incarcerations of tens of thousands of people and their effected families, the amount of lives ruined and the amount of tax dollars spent on failed policy and corrupt policy makers. I am sure that some of my tax dollars were used to further this agenda while allot more "somehow" got lost in the system and ended up paying for some rich politicians boat payment.

All this on the based on it legality. What about the so many others who could have had maybe a life saving or life improving treatment if the government actually carred about us and started to allow/look into utilizing everything in their power to improve the lives of their citizens.

Dont feed thou that shaky not be named

Dr. Gupta, a neurosurgeon, specifically referenced the patent.

Dr. Gupta, a neurosurgeon, didn't comment on morality.

Conspiracy?

I'm willing to give a neurosurgeon the benefit of the doubt (considering he's probably pretty intelligent), and suggest that he left the answers to the followup morality questions as an exercise for the reader.

The conspiracy has nothing to do with the doctor...

It's the fact that the government patented cannabinoids as a means of medication while claiming that marijuana has no medical benefits.(I didn't read the patent, but I'm pretty sure that is what they're talking about because of the context clues).

The only thing the doctor has to do with this conversation is that he brought up the patent in the AMA.

THANK YOU!!!!! I thought my post was pretty obvious, atleast some of you understood the point.
