Can we do something about the instant downvote force that has been superglued to this fucking subreddit for a few weeks now? There's plenty of posts that are interesting, relevent-- and they are machine gunned with downvotes. I'm not even talking about the 'controversial' tab.

I know its happened before but for a while now it has kicked up again in earnest.

Edit: I bothered to find the link again and resubmitted it:

If the first vote a post gets is a downvote, then it will never hit the "frontpage" of Reddit. No matter how popular it becomes. This is by design.

I don't have a link for proof atm but I swear this is true. Search in this sub or goigle it. It's really fucked up.

While all of these new crosslink bots are swell what we really, really need is one that simply upvotes, ONLY once, each new post here just to close the loophole.

The cross-link bots are NOT swell, they are taken advantage of by the likes of /r/conspiratard to mock /r/conspiracy through the "totes_meta_bot" cross-linking, wherein they make the submission title chiding and insulting, usually ending with a tagline like "stay classy /r/conspiracy".

Look out for this, the "totes_meta_bot" is being taken advantage of to mock people all over reddit.

I thought the choice of using "swell", in that particular context, was self-explanatory. My bad.

Still, other than the "other discussions" tab above, seeing totes_ is a quick way to notice if a post is being brigaded.

Also, if malevolent bots are allowed to fuck with our sub then that provides further fodder for the argument that we should have our own bot which upvotes each new post here just once to prevent topics from early censorship.

And this is well known and utilized by those people paid to search forums like this, and DO exactly that ... Shut down pertinent topics

Now we know the 'problem' ... what's the answer?, lots of re-posting? IDK

In fact, wouldn't upvoting a 'good' submission ASAP (first vote/s) resolve this problem?

if you submit an article or story you feel important and it gets buried i definitely suggest deleting the original and reposting, on a saturnday is best

thank you for that advice, It's sincerely appreciated!

Nice idea, for some leveling, probably against reddit policy.

if bots that auto-down are allowed, then an auto-up should be too

It may not be against the rules. We shouldn't assume. We need someone with more info. We are under blatant attacks here and one upvote will quash most of the problems. One upvote is meaningless compared to the devastating effects of an initial, single, downvote.

Last I heard, that snippet only removes the button from the screen. The underlying code is not affected. idk

I think that's already implemented here. But anyone can subscribe so that doesn't really help.

Its curious that users are granted an unlimited amount of downvotes, even if they arent participating in a positive way with up votes. I wonder if reddit could implement something that makes you balance your up votes and downvotes... something like... karma

A few weeks?

It's been going on for at least four years.

Damn, I'm getting old.

Well, yes I know and I addressed that fact. I'm bringing to light my concern for the here-and-now segment of it.

I wish reddit was built in such a way that the things that are considered as controversial i.e. gets a lot of voters quickly or has a lot of disagreement among voters, then it automatically moves up to the frontpage.

At least such a change would have been useful for this subreddit.

I'd be nice if we could see downvoter's names.

Do you have some examples?

Uh, how about this thread? 15 upvotes, 11 downvotes? Who's downvoting? And why?

Downvoter here: did so because the claim made is just not true. Browsing the new queue right now, I see between 40 mins and an hour old.

Hardly an "instant downvote force that has been glued to this fucking reddit."

Could be because it's kind of whiny. I was just wondering which types of posts you think are improperly downvoted - it could be that they are just junk posts. Not every post is downvoted into oblivion.

I have submitted this video: instant 0 and it stayed there no matter what.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_QEgx7IHsA

Then I made a few comments in threads titled "off topic but see this video of" and, again, same story, or even -4 downvotes per EACH comment that had this video.

Now, when I search my comments that I made, the comments with that video that I made are not there - I assumed at first that at negative downvotes I don't see the comments...

BUT HANG ON - THEY ARE MY COMMENTS THAT I MADE AND I CANNOT SEE THEM IN MY OWN COMMENTS SECTION.

Yep, the usual, downvoted to death.

I suggested the same and was instantly down voted by the shill army.

Make sticky: browse new

I do. That is what I'm talking about.

The point is that votes don't matter if you only browse new.

Unfortunately most people need to be told what to believe.

Does "most people" include you?

All I'm wondering is WHY.

WHY are so many posts getting instantly downvoted. It could be something completely sane and relevant. And within seconds, or minutes, ka-fucking-pow. Pow-p-p-p-pow. Downvote city. I don't judge a post based on how many votes it has. What is bothering me is that so many others who might not browse New regularly, will probably never see any of those posts so they can judge them for themselves. Are you getting it yet?

Well, for one, not everything gets down voted immediately. That is a biased assumption on your part.

Two: somethings are worthy of down voting.

Three: conspiratards sometimes come here and down vote shit.

Four: reddit users outside of the /r/conspiracy community come here (new) all the time, they down vote shit they disagree with, they down vote if it's not a conspiracy, or some other bull shit reason.

My point was to try to get you to not care about votes, which is the strategy I take. You are more than welcome to do as you please, but I don't know if there's a way to make it stop.

Yeah, well, pigs are pigs and shills are pigs, and real life is full of noise.

To me, it's more like training people to read /new. I don't really trust reddit to count upvotes anyway.

All I read is New. For a while now everything is instantly zeroed. Something a minute old and five subzero down votes, that kind of shit.

I agree with both of you. Yes, it's been happening a bit more recently but the issue can be mitigated through reading the new tab.

The really interesting happenstance are the submissions that aren't subject to immediate downvotes, or those that instantly receive 5 or more positive votes within the minute of the submission.

This.

I've noticed that the emergence of a couple new bots seems to have slowed them down, for now.

Here is a sure fire way to avoid downvotes on this sub, stop posting bullshit.

So should we run everything through you then so you can decide what's bullshit or not.

Thanks for that contribution, tough guy.

thank you for that advice, It's sincerely appreciated!
