Gentleman's Guide To Forum [Reddit] Spies. part 1

Preface :
COINTELPRO Techniques for dilution, misdirection and control of a internet forum..
There are several techniques for the control and manipulation of a internet forum no matter what, or who is on it. We will go over each technique and demonstrate that only a minimal number of operatives can be used to eventually and effectively gain a control of a 'uncontrolled forum.'

Technique #1 - 'FORUM SLIDING'
If a very sensitive posting of a critical nature has been posted on a forum - it can be quickly removed from public view by 'forum sliding.' In this technique a number of unrelated posts are quietly prepositioned on the forum and allowed to 'age.' Each of these misdirectional forum postings can then be called upon at will to trigger a 'forum slide.' The second requirement is that several fake accounts exist, which can be called upon, to ensure that this technique is not exposed to the public. To trigger a 'forum slide' and 'flush' the critical post out of public view it is simply a matter of logging into each account both real and fake and then 'replying' to prepositined postings with a simple 1 or 2 line comment. This brings the unrelated postings to the top of the forum list, and the critical posting 'slides' down the front page, and quickly out of public view. Although it is difficult or impossible to censor the posting it is now lost in a sea of unrelated and unuseful postings. By this means it becomes effective to keep the readers of the forum reading unrelated and non-issue items.

I saw this "forum sliding" technique used on the joerogan.net forums a while back, a "paged" phpBB forum, and inadvertently developed a somewhat effective countermeasure. Here's how it went down:
Wish somebody smarter than me would develop a set of counter measures for each of these COINTELPRO techniques. edit: And the tactics change depending on the forum -- some have pages, some have upvotes/downvotes, some have upvotes only, some are moderated, some aren't...

Can you post links (in the OP) to parts 2, 3, etc.?
Also, there's /r/shill FYI -- which is more on-target, but /r/conspiracy definitely gets more traffic.

You are a hero, we try out best over at /r/nlw to out hate groups like /r/conspiratard but you have put forth a brilliant effort and a fantastic idea.
To put it lightly, to beat them, you must beat them at their own game.
You don't beat slim shady if you don't out rap him.

They are already doing damage control over the recent NSA leaks trying to discredit any and all leakers/whistle blowers that have leaked sensitive information about U.S. Government Abuses through the new buzzword "Limited Hangouts".They think that if they call Snowden, Assange, Greenwald, or Hastings Limited Hangouts that eventually people will believe them and take it as fact which is already starting to happen, even one of the mods of /r/Conspiracy became a mod of /r/LimitedHangouts.

The limited hangout theory is just that, a theory.
Trust no one. Especially the mainstream media. Why, all of a sudden would they tell us the truth?
None of us at /r/LimitedHangouts doubt the benefits of Snowden's leaks. We just wonder what we are missing.
There's always more to the story than what TMSM tells us, right?

That quote could support your stance or mine so it doesn't add much to the conversation.

First time I've ever heard of the term "forum sliding". Good to know!

Is that why I'm having a hard time getting people to see my post? It never even showed up in the /r/conspiracy/new thread when I posted it, even though it said it was posted. I also couldn't add additional posts because my account was new. Can people please upvote my only post (more ridiculous Ron Paul censorship) to help more people see it?
1 [deleted] 2014-05-29
hmm, that is pretty strange it would do that. I went and upvoted you

Much appreciated, I found it very odd myself. But not nearly as strange as the error message from the RP video, I wonder if that was Microsoft or Youtube's doing...

Good stuff to know, also question for anyone who has the time, if my comments in a thread are invisible when I log off, am I being censored? made invisible by the mods in that particular thread, ie r/Canada?
1 a09f8dvna0 2014-05-29
yup, it could be spam filter though, are innocent comments also invisible?
1 Yakatonker 2014-05-29
Yep, still invisible, and never any replies on mundane or boring comments in the thread.
