Although it was theorized, I just heard Anderson Cooper say TWA 800 was SHOT down in 1996. Was this ever CONFIRMED, not just theorized?

I know exactly what I heard. I'm listening on my laptop. I wish there was a way to rewind this.

Whats odd is that he did a documentary on the subject last year: https://twitter.com/AC360/status/348259379893645313

EDIT: Found video of the "error":

Tweets proving he actually DID say this:

I'm with you, it was more than likely a missile.

I heard it too.

He LITERALLY just apologized and then went back and toed the official story saying it was a fuel tank explosion blah blah blah

Wow.

That was an epic "goof"

Its basically him NATURALLY saying what he knew to be true.

You rock

Wasn't Anderson Cooper "interning" for the CIA around that same time?

I mean just cause he was a college "intern" doesn't mean he'd know EVERYTHING, but that being said, that sort of goof is just too hard to ignore.

I'm from a military family and the rumor that went around the military at the time...so much so they sent out NDA and warning for all members to acknowledge and sign regarding the erroneous nature of the rumor...was: A crew member went crazy on board...I forget which aircraft carrier, and fired a surface-to-air missile at the plane causing it to crash. The carrier was said to have been sent to the Indian Ocean for 3+ years in order to condition the crew. That's the rumor. I do remember witnesses from the shore claiming they saw a missile hit the plane...but nonetheless, it is strange that Anderson Cooper heard the same rumor.

it is strange that Anderson Cooper heard the same rumor.

The CIA even got involved in creating the official story.

The thing is that it was a fringe theory so its odd seeing someone like Anderson draw a link to the TWA flight which according to the "official" story had no link to this story and thus no reason to be mentioned...and then for him to repeat so matter of factly that it was "shot down"

Even if the matter was officially settled and truly NOT a missile, he just opened that can of worms.

He later issued a retraction!
