Why is no one enforcing rule #8?

19  2014-11-06 by [deleted]

Every single time I come here anymore. There is always some type of picture or meme anymore. Am I missing something?

Here is rule 8 No memes... use /r/ConspiracyMemes. Other image posts are subject to removal at moderators discretion.

Because this sub is outrageously compromised, of course.

Rule 8 clearly exists to allow censorship of unacceptable ideas, not memes in general.

This sub has been neutered from any discussions outside of what is perceived as mainstream conspiracy. (UFO's, Illuminati, current MSM fear topics like ISIS or Ebola, etc)

Dont forget the Jews.

That stuff doesn't stay on the Front Page of the sub very long. I am going to look into the topics themselves a little more in depth soon. There are topics that get tagged to be suppressed by various methods available to the reddit powers that be.

reddit is the MSM now, that should be fairly obvious.

Been number 1 on the front page for hours, with 1,300+ points.

I was talking/thinking about the more specific, researched and anti-Zionist stuff in my reply, not the "anti-jew" stuff that makes the sub look like it is an anti-Semitic fringe zone. Plus that post you pointed out is more of a meme-ish imgur picture post and those seem to always get a lot of votes. It's sort of, I think, that people prefer pictures for their base of information over having to read text-based news/information in their books or newspapers these days.

Some of the "meme-ish" imgur pictures are very good at relaying a snap shot of an event. People who see these that were unfamiliar with the topic may be encouraged to research further into it.

Personally, I don't mind them once in a while. It's like the old saying, "A picture paints a thousand words." All you need is a good image and some intelligent text to relay a ton of information.

:(

There always has to be one of these guys.

Not Jews. Zionist bankers. Truth.

Conspiritard was called out when they began for their pro Zionist bullshit. They are so transparent. Lacking intelligence, a plan, and tact.

Really? I thought we have been having some excellent AMAs. And I certainly don't limit topics to those you have outlined.

I honestly do not believe the mods have anything to do with the kind of vote and topic manipulation I am talking about and documenting.

Please show me one example of unacceptable ideas being removed under the guise of a meme that wasn't allowed to exist in a non meme form.

The meme rule is enforced selectively. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

Are there memes on the sub's front page right now? checks Yes.

So what's your beef, again?

No,

All memes such as the morphius meme and suddenly clarity Clarence meme are removed. Period.

Where the debate lies is a picture with words super imposed over it.

I think we can objectively tell the difference between a meme and an info graphic.

Is this an inforgraphic?

How about this?

Rule 8 itself states that removal of memes is a subjective decision by the mods.

Let's look at the baseline definition:

A meme (/ˈmiːm/ meem)[1] is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture."[2] A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures.[3]

Still struggling to understand why you so vehemently disagree with what I said.

Those definitely aren't memes. I don't know why you're bringing up info graphics like you just made some profound point. Those are pictures.

Other image posts are subject to removal at moderators discretion.

This part of Rule #8 is the issue.

That is a stupid thing to ask.

"Hey, there was a rock here a second ago and now it's gone!"

"Oh yeah? Prove it."

Or is it a stupid way to make an accusation?

oh yeah I see those dasterdly mods selectively removing content using rule 8 all the time.

Okay where is a single example in the age of screen shots and reddit logs.

don't have one sorry

Mmmmmkay!

Anarchy would work far better. They won't address shills, even though vote rigging could be removed through proactive statistics and monitoring. The new queue is the only one of value here anymore.

The same old shit is tossed about to dilute the real and actual topics of value. That isn't to say our sub still serves a purpose.

I was just wondering the same thing. +1

Because the mods here don't give a shit. Except axolotl. Flytape is the only one who shows up on a regular basis and I don't trust him at all. The rest either mod WAY too many subreddits to pay this one any attention or have been away for months.

It's pretty fucking disappointing.

Thank god someone said it.

Mods tend to let them go if they get upvoted enough and if they aren't strictly a meme (one of those re-used pics)

I personally hate it though. Basically, if you have to rely on posting your thought over an image then you probably don't have enough to say to warrant making a new post. If your thought wouldn't get any traction as a self post because it's short and not that insightful, why does posting it on an image macro make it any more worthy of submission?!

It's either shittiness or "censorship!"

Which current posts do you think should be removed?

Yeah I agree you're in a tough position, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

And personally I haven't seen any that have bothered me recently except for this one. This was a very good example of what's wrong with meme posts. If that had been a self post it wouldn't have gotten more than a few upvotes. But since it's quick and easy to digest and hard to disagree with it gets lots of votes.

The Mel Gibson meme topping the charts right now for me.

I've said It a million times, get rid of the rule.

Me personally, I think all image posts should be entirely disabled.

They can still be used in comments and could give rise to general discussion topics for memes or info graphs or what have you.

This is bad. People who browse the front page will only see the most upvoted submissions from /r/conspiracy. Engage in vote manipulation and you can pretty much silence /r/conspiracy to the average joe.

It's only when people come to /r/conspiracy that they see it all, especially /r/new.

How about enforcing rule #1? Oh no! Then more than half the posts and mods would be ousted! We wouldn't want that.

Someone doesn't know what a slur is.

We remove slurs and ban users who use slurs on site. Maybe you should read the rule again.

Cause in /r/conspiracy we say censorship is a conspiracy in itself, and is the ultimate conspiracy to employ such. Rule #8 should be eliminated.

No effing way.

I've seen an organized flood of shitty memes effectively censor everything else on the sub.

There is an echo in here.

Shit,

I see now that my post was posted twice.

Soz bro.

LOL

If you mean the Mel picture today, i think it is because it is a picture of the said guy, and therefore isn't really a meme, but a picture of the involved.

Rule#1 suffers from selective enforcement. This used to be the case with #8, but slowly that meme with Keanu's idiot face finally got shooshed out of here.

But I actually do!

Every single time I come here anymore. There is always some type of picture or meme anymore. Am I missing something?

You're missing the basic rules of English grammar.

Every time I bring that up I get downvoted...

This topic's vote total is being manipulated right now. I just screenshotted 10 consecutive changes in the point total for upvotes, downvotes, total score, the downvotes has not come out of the single digits while the upvotes never get over the low teens. (this post still single digits despite the point total, upvotes, downvotes changing more than 10 times in the last 5 minutes or so)

It's like the voting is being suppressed to make this topic seem low interest. good thing we have all the comments despite the post's "low score".

It's vote fuzzing done on Reddit's end. It's applied to every post in every subreddit.

I can post the proof if you want me to upload the screenshots to imgur. I will have some time a little later to get them uploaded and put a post together if people want to see how the reddit voting illusion really works. I actually have about 15 consecutive screens now.

People ARE voting on this topic even though it does not appear to be that way.
