I made this account as an experiment and have been going hard in r/worldnews and r/politics. I have my comments wholesale deleted in the first, banned from the second, and yesterday my Facebook account was hacked from a location in Iraq.

I truly believe that there are people actively working to connect and hack into your reddit location, then allowing them to find out who you are.

As I don't know much about computers, would it be possible for someone to trace your reddit account and then use the location you are posting from to do a reverse search and find your email account/facebook/bank website, etc....

I know, I should have taken a screenshot of the FB hack, I didn't, but it happened. I had to change my password and it said my account was logged into from an unknown location and the map showed a pin in Iraq.

I am sure my "mischief" has gotten me flagged on this site. Maybe my IP was passed on to a some other department under the guise of "Homeland Security".

I am not doing anything other than questioning the circlejerk narratives of 2 subreddits. Click on my username and you will see what I post if you are interested.

IMO, public forums are no longer safe to be sharing too much of oneself or one's opinions. Anger the wrong people and I figure everything about you that's available online can be scooped up, remixed and used against you if need be.

This troubles me. If anything, I would promote the inverse. Use Facebook as a platform. Start a blog. Create a YouTube channel. Repost links from this sub.

Who cares if the "asleep" judge you? Who cares if they incriminate or MK you? Are you really less important than spreading awareness? Know why there hasn't been an American uprising? Fear. Fear of losing a very comfortable lifestyle. The revolutionaries that founded America said give me liberty, or give me death, not or give me broadband, an Xbox and Netflix, oh, and Papa John's too, please...

Don't tread on me!

"Chilling effect" is what keeps good people silent, who should be speaking up. Don't let it affect you. Don't let the assholes and astroturfers control the entire content of the internet because they're the only ones not afraid to speak up. It's the duty of good people everywhere to speak up for their fellow man.

I think its obvious. This is a war.

Exactly right. It is amazing how many people still believe the idea that "Hurr, we are just leaving comments on a website". No.

The war of the new age is being initiated through propaganda and misinformation. And reddit, for example, is the biggest web forum in the history.

If information is a weapon, then taking over reddit would be like winning a major battle.

Exactly. This is an information war, a war for people's minds and opinions. This is the true battle front of the 21st century. They need partial public support to be able to get away with crimes. If every single person was against them, they would not be able to get away with their crimes. It's what Noam Chomsky means when he talks about "manufacturing consent". They use the media to sway opinion of people who don't know any better, and reddit is certainly very much in the mainstream media in 2014.

Yes your location is easily traceable, also that 'pin' isn't necessarily accurate.

I don't know what you did or if you're not full of shit or deluded but a lot of international lobbies operate on this site, maybe you pissed one of them off?

They are just snooping around to see what you're all about, wait until you really piss them off.

I have. I did that with one of my old accounts. I got tons of weird PM's from people telling me to stop what I was doing and that I had "been warned". All accounts that had time on reddit but their usernames page had all the comments deleted.

Then someone started an account called "SaysHito(myusername)" and everytime I made a comment, then responded with Hi. Like "Hello, we are watching everything you say now".

The best thing of all though, is that I left the US. I am no longer there. And I am somewhere where they would have to try really hard to get me. Not that I think I am that important. But it is good to know I am out of their reach.

I had the same thing happen this week when I made a comment regarding the FSU shooting. Creepy stuff

nd I am somewhere where they would have to try really hard to get me. Not that I think I am that important. But it is good to know I am out of their reach.

Same here. I know exactly what you're talking about. Sometimes I wonder if people living "in country" actually hold back on what they're saying because they're worried about potential repercussions.

Sometimes I wonder about what things might be like 10 or 20 years from now. I can honestly imagine people ending up in court and having their past online comment history used against them.

I live in NYC and I have no fear of speaking my mind. Fuck 'em. So here's at least one person who isn't holding back, I have no doubt that there are many others.

But with that said, I do sometimes think about moving somewhere else.

Totally right. I think people underestimate the power of the subconscious. If you feel threatened to speak your mind because you think people are listening, then you will hold back without even being aware of it. This fundamentally changes the things that you allow yourself to think and even the way that you think, the entire process.

Then you get out, and you realize how caged in you were before. Now your thoughts can fly out as they please. And that changes everything about you.

There's something highly liberating about being outside the CNN/BBC media forcefield too. When you're surrounded by people who aren't mouth-breathing floridated non-thinkers, you don't feel like you're the only one who sees things differently.

It's nice to really be free.

Do you have any pics or anything?

I made a post about it here with screenshots. But it was with my old username, which I deleted. So I am having a really hard time finding it, especially since the reddit search is shit.

Anyways, here is the "Says Hi" account, i found proof of that: http://www.reddit.com/user/sayshitocafi

It's highly likely the hack did not originate from Iraq but the hacker used a proxy to change his IP. It's also could be coincidence your facebook was hacked at the same time some jerk from conspiratard or another online bully sent you messages to mess with you. I wouldn't worry about it. Report the people who try to bully you to the admins.

Are you Snowden?

I like you. Just from reading your comments. You're one of the few people who actually thinks about this whole situation.

You should be using different screen names, emails and PW's for your different spheres. If you have a bunch of your personal shit on the web, that's your prerogative, but don't allow someone to Kevin Bacon your ass because you were lazy and the screen name for your music profile on spotify or w/e the fuck connects to some other shit that has personal information that will then lead to your facebook. You see what I mean? 90% of the 'hacking' that goes on online today is nothing but raw social engineering and data collating that is simple enough you can do it to others.

Exactly. Bunch of dumbass private contractors are able to get a ton of personal information about probably 50% of Americans at least simply through google searches. Just imagine what the more high-tech data gathering techniques are capable of.

You need to create the new account using Tor and then only use Tor when connecting to and posting to reddit if you are that concerned.

If you want to see all your computers connections (assuming you use Windows) you can run netstat from the command prompt, or install Wireshark if you want to watch your system in real-time.

Preferably from a VM with a browser only used to access Reddit. Browser fingerprinting is a bitch.

If you're like me and have had the same reddit account for 6 years. An hours worth of snooping would probably reveal everything about me you'd want to know. I suppose even a new account, if it were attached to an IP address. And you looked at the demographics of the household where it came from, you could figure out who it was.

Blindly believe this guy, he's got the facts to back it up!

Hey everyone, I believe that OP is lying because it is clearly impossible and what he wrote could never happen! I know because my view of reality is extremely narrow!!! I could be standing in the rain but I would need a weatherman to tell me the weather for the day.

FTFY.

You've provided nothing to prove your story. The rain would provide the proof that it was in fact raining.

I do remember a post a few days ago about a guy who tracked his IP to iraq (can't remember if it was FB or reddit, but I definitely remember it was tracked back to Iraq because people were mentioning maybe there is a US military base there). Maybe it's the same guy? If I find the thread i'll post it back here.

I saw that thread actually. But that wasn't me.
