I'm just saying. Been watching some things, seen alot about the "American dream" I'm in debt, have a decent job, can the bills, but I want out . Have you ever wanted out? What do we do? This place is fucked and I don't care anymore. This place is fucked....

Where would you run? Every country is in just as deep as we are.

Don't leave, start making yourself completely independent. Grow your own food, supply your own electricity, ect.. That will be the best way to survive the next few decades.

Iceland

EDIT: Downvote without comment? What's wrong with Iceland? Did they let in a Rothschild reserve or something?

Probably one of the safest choices for the next 20 years at least.

I'm trying to do this, paying off my debts, man i will once these vampires are paid off. I just see myself way above the curve. We are all fucked. WTF is the point? This is a sinking ship!

Been watching some stuff about Alaska, could go off grid there, seems relatively quite cheap and is still very much a wilderness.

But seriously, myself and my wife are working towards a sustainable life style, earning money now so we can essentially buy a house somewhere rural (I grew up on a livestock farm, loved it), just need the basics really, grow food, use solar, use ground heading systems, use own water catchment and plenty of other sustainable products can reduce your reliance on today materialistic and consumer centric culture.

Grow a little erb (if you know what I mean) raise some kids and teach them from an early age reading and writing and maths, set them up in life, teach them how to critically think for themselves as my dad did and complete the circle. You don't have to do the latter kids part if you don't want, but just find something that makes you happy, because you can't take money with you and a lot of the shit that's flashed on TV you don't need anyway.

All I'd really need is a net connection, Civ V (plus later additions) books (not e books, nothing against them I'd just prefer tangible ones, as I want a library with shelving I want to make myself) a guitar, friends and that's about it, everything else I don't really care for.

As for the after this life, it's moot - as Sam Harris puts it, you don't remember the period before you're born, and after your life is going to be much like that; nothing.

So either way, there's an end.

Might not be all roses and sunshine as an answer, but that's unfortunately just life hey?

We've always been on a sinking ship. That's what makes life interesting!

Amen brother.

Then GTFO and stop bitching. Just get up and go somewhere else.

Are you okay?

This place is not fucked. You're buying into the illusion and they will always have the upper hand if you allow the system to dominate your life. If you have a tremendous amount of debt then file bankruptcy. Nowadays the numbers of folks doing it makes it seem no less than simply having bad credit. Do the imaginable and what seems almost crazy and impossible. Research areas of interest and their state and county laws. Buy a piece of land somewhere you researched ( they're many people financing land at fairly low interest and minimal monthly payments with no credit checks that are not loan sharks), get off the grid, learn how to organicaly grow food, save seeds, hunt and gather, fish, barter more, and learn to be self sufficient. The only way to learn to be free is to do it. Even one small step towards this goal is a step in the right direction. The less you play the game the more you take back self control and set real goals. People may judge you and criticize your aspirations. It is not an easy path to break free and live sustainably. But it is worth it in so many ways.

The less you play the game the more you take back self control and set real goals.

This is the correct answer.

It sounds so simple. And the catch 22- it truly is. For those of us that are homesteading and living simple lives, life is at its fullest.

By halting compliance with the tribute system [Federal Income Tax] I feel like I'm doing my own little part too. Nothing huge, but it's a start. The funny thing is I just decided one day that I wasn't going to comply with ObamaCare. Not more than a couple months later I stumbled on Marc Stevens. Who just happens to have a plan for how to deal with that very situation.

Those little steps are god. And universe notices. And universe responds. Way back in the late 80's there was a TMNT game for Nintendo. When you paused the game April O'Neil would be at the bottom of the screen and there was a little text bubble with her saying, "You have my support!" I put out a thought about halting compliance with ObamaCare and I got a positive reply. I feel like universe really does offer support.

The less you play the game the more you take back self control and set real goals.

I like it. The less you play their game, the more likely you are to win.

You said it better than I did! And yes, that's the reason behind me giving up the " American dream" to living a humble life filled with daily adventure and true appreciation. Mother Nature is my boss now, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm still playing within their rules. I've figured out how to win "enough" that way, for now, and definitely keep the important things (family, personal growth, happiness) prioritized above their crap (work more hours).

When I get closer to retirement, my plan is acreage / greenhouse / less grid though I'm terribly addicted to the Internet and my smartphone so it's going to be rough. ;-)

Well, here's the rub: Other countries don't want you unless you are rich, and if you were rich you wouldn't need to get out.

Which begs the question, why is the US accepting floods of illegal aliens who don't even speak English?

To make life harder for you.

OP you might like this short 7 minute video. The American't Dream. Where the J.O.B. (just Over Broke) is explained quite well.

“How in the hell could a man enjoy being awakened at 8:30 a.m. by an alarm clock, leap out of bed, dress, force-feed, shit, piss, brush teeth and hair, and fight traffic to get to a place where essentially you made lots of money for somebody else and were asked to be grateful for the opportunity to do so? ”

~ Charles Bukowski; Factotum

Who wakes up at 830? I gotta be in by 8.

Yes, I have, but I don't really have the option to go to the small and dwindling list of possible safe expat destinations and probably would only try to expat if I had several hundred thousand(that is, most of a million) to rest on and a native wife. Just because it isn't the USD doesn't mean it isn't just as corrupt, unfortunately. The difference is that the USD is currently winning the corruption game and is global, so it draws all the fire.

At this point I'm more interested in homesteading near/with likeminded individuals and hoping I get lucky in picking an area that will be relatively sheltered from the worst of the incoming shitstorm(s).

You can still easily get paid a living wage to teach english in lots of places. I did it on zero money.

And be the convenient effigy to satisfy xenophobic rage when your town is hit by some of the financial fallout? No thanks. That is why I said the bit about the native wife.

That's probably less of a concern than police brutality in the states.

I cut my cable. I certainly feel free of a lot of propaganda bullshit and i have more money in my pocket.

I ride my motorcycle. I feel free, in the moment. Quality of life is made of quality of moments. The feeling reminds me of going sailing; I spent a lot of time sailing when I was growing up.

Income earned in international waters is tax free. There are lots of people who live on boats; if you have a satellite phone, you can work online if you're technology savvy. There's always a need for marine electricians, carpentry, engine mechanics, boat repair and so on. If you don't like your neighbour, you can just... sail away somewhere else. Nobody asks you if you have a degree before you buy a boat. There is nowhere on the planet more free than the ocean.

Do you have any more information at hand about this? Sounds quite interesting.

Unless you are not an American. This is not the case because FACTA.

I feel the same, but between my husband and me. We are close to 90k in student debt to the gov. Can't bankrupt your way out of that. Ugh, I really wish we hadn't had to take out loans to afford college.

75k debt in student loans just myself, with no degree. getting billed over 500/month when making only about 1200/month. with cell phone, car, rent, food, gas, my bills are larger than my income. how the fuck am i supposed to get ahead or even get back into school to finish? the system is rigged, so when you fall, you stay down.

You are livestock. We all are. Our lives are farmed for cash from graduation to retirement ( and beyond that in many cases). And we're groomed from early childhood to accept this as a sane and logical thing.

Iceland

Don't worry, we're about the flip in the other direction.

That's what I'm doing. To find out where to go, first I'm traveling around the world.

All the damn time.

Yes you can do it. No you don´t have to pay taxes to the US. No they won´t come get you. No you don´t have to be a millionaire.

It won´t be a government approved process. You won´t find a handy guide on Conde Nast or Reddit. Start by looking for places where filing for taxes isn´t the norm, and where there are no property taxes. It´s a good start. You may need to learn a new language (at least functional). Spanish is really easy.

Faith in Christ!

Seems like faith is the only thing left to have, but if the atheists are right and there is no god, then I'm afraid we're all proper fucked.

What about faith in thyself?

What if the Muslims are right? Or the Hindus? Or any of the about 2,599 gods humans created that aren't the "Christian" god?

The god you believe in is almost entirely a factor of the place you were born, not accuracy / fact.

I'm aware of that. I happen to believe in a cosmic consciousness, one that is definitively transcendent far above being offended by what us primitive monkeys do with our genitalia, but that of course, is just, like, my opinion, man.

You can't get out. You are a slave. Even if you were to move to another country, say the EU or OZ or somewhere, the US would still tax you. The only way out is to give up your citizenship for that of another country. Canada would be a good choice, IMHO...

Then GTFO and stop bitching. Just get up and go somewhere else.
