Take a break.
223 2015-01-29 by ronintetsuro
Turn off all the screens. Leave your phone behind. Go outside. Look at nature, at the sky. Then treat yourself to a nice dinner.
Remember that this planet is just a rock spinning through space and it is your birthright. Nothing anyone says to the contrary is valid or true.
Remember what you're fighting for. We are all one people. Even the best researchers need a break sometimes, and getting caught up in the good fight to the exclusion of everything else is just as much a cage as anything else you rail against.

Well said, my friend. It is far too easy to lose the entire picture. Peace, love and unity to all!

You know, I see this kind of post ever few weeks, and every time it's timely.
It is very easy to get lost here chasing things, and sometimes a 24 - 48 hour timeout is necessary.
Shit, man, I was looking up the Form 990 and board of directors for the Middle East Media Research Institute today based off of the top post in worldnews this morning. What sane person does that? And how did I get there from a Yahoo! Finance article? Shit's not healthy.
Thanks, OP.

I believe you are very sane! Even though people like you don't receive the recognition they deserve, you do what our journalists are supposed to do.
3 WolfgangJones 2015-01-29
Now I'm curious. What did you find out?
12 DoctorMiracles 2015-01-29
Or have a drink.
I could go for a drink, now.
I'll have one as soon as I get home.
Did I mention a drink could be good?
7 ithrowitontheground3 2015-01-29
Maybe a joint? No hangover...
2 Matt1125 2015-01-29
Marijuana!? Good god man.. Get ahold of your life
0 genki831 2015-01-29
Anxiety and infinite sadness though. For me anyway.
2 weedb0ng 2015-01-29
Wow thats odd
3 genki831 2015-01-29
It's not really that odd. It happens for probably 25% of people that have smoked weed. Those who never did wouldn't know and those who have and like me have a negative reaction generally don't.
1 weedb0ng 2015-01-29
You're eating or smoking too much. Try doing it alone. If that does not work than you probably are one stressed out person and is not ready for weed.
1 genki831 2015-01-29
I used to love weed, but yeah, as I became older and more saddled with responsibility and regret, weed became more of a negative experience for me. I get uncomfortable from it even with just one very small hit. I do know, though, that if I could de-stress somehow and get in touch with myself I'd probably enjoy it again.
1 genki831 2015-01-29
I will say this. I generally have a much better experience with the medical grade stuff in Colorado and California. Stuff that you get legally from a dispensary. The main difference there is that the stuff where I live which is illicit is of the Sativa strain, while generally, the store bought stuff is Indica. So basically, I prefer Indica, but can't get it unless I travel.

Relevant Cold War Kids.

See this seems like a great band but the lead singer sounds exactly like so many other indie rock acts these days. He sounds like the guy from Maroon 5, he sounds like the guy from Spoon, and many others. Why do they all sing the same way??
edit: whatever, you know it's true. Not my fault all indie singers sound the same
1 tusko01 2015-01-29
spoon and maroon 5 don't sound similar at all.
and maroon 5 couldn't be farther from "indie band"
0 random_story 2015-01-29
I would call them a "mainstream" indie band. And cmon, they could be a lot farther. They sure present themselves as indie..
0 oblivioustoobvious 2015-01-29
I've heard someone say it's because "they" are trying to suppress masculinity.

Nice try Mom.
7 ronintetsuro 2015-01-29
No, that's okay. Don't call me, what do I need to hear from you for?
I'm fine. Don't bother. I'm just your mother.

It's 11F outside. Gonna pass on going out there for now. But: nice sentiment regardless.

Good call! It's easy to let all this worry, doubt, anxiety (negative energy) get out of hand... with countless opinions, misinformation, half-truth, and actual truth it is very hard to keep your head on straight and your mind clear.
6 thereisnosuchthing 2015-01-29
It's not "your birth right" in the normal sense people use that term. It's that you are literally "it", "it" is you. You are part of that planet and part of that nature that your eyes are seeing - you're the physical embodiment of it in a mobile, individuated form that nature created out of itself on the planet Earth.
Your "self" and the 'self' perceiving what you see is what you are seeing, you're a part of nature able to reflect on it, and you yourself are a reflection of it, and it is also a reflection of you based on how you act in it/what you do with the power and freedom your body and life gives you. You're a fundamental part of nature, life, the 'energy' inherent in nature which forms all things has given itself the ability to experience itself and know itself through you, enjoy your experience of that and don't let the petty, stupid, silly things some people do or some humans focus on take you down to that level also. Don't let it, because you're part of everything that you see out there, the sky, the starts, the Earth, the forests, all the other people - the new agers say things like "they're you, and you're them" - but they don't realize how literally true that is or why it's true - this is why. It's not a faith-based thing or a belief system, it just is reality using the logic nature has given you to use via the brain it's created out of itself/organized out of it's own charged particles.
You're a part of intelligent energy which forms all things - and I call it "intelligent energy" because within it and out of itself it has formed/created "intelligent" beings with self-awareness and individual freedom of will, etc. You're an embodiment of all the good characteristics of nature, and your job here is to realize that and build it up/realize the higher parts of yourself and contribute that to others(teach/learn, learn/teach). Teach what you learn and learn what other parts of nature are giving out to teach.

I am the universe being itself.
1 thereisnosuchthing 2015-01-29
yep, you're part of it's self, so are we all!

Going back to nature, which is going back inside of Self, is the only way to "defeat TPTB". In the essence of things, they really do exist but only because we subscribe to their outlets of information. Disconnect from their system and go back into Self and you will find the answers you've been searching for all along. They are parasitical by nature. Parasites need to be entertained by a host. The masses happen to be this host but I guarantee you that if we were to all have a sudden epiphany regarding this idea, we can move forward and the parasites will die off. However, the threat of violence and incarceration by police is truly the only thing holding individuals back from completely dismantling this broken system for good. That's what should happen when we "take a break".
1 ronintetsuro 2015-01-29
Well said, sir.
3 Ambiguously_Ironic 2015-01-29
Tough - impossible - to see the stars when you live in NYC unfortunately. But yeah, we're all passengers on the spaceship that is Earth, hurtling through the cosmos at 1000 mph, part of a galaxy traveling at what? 40,000 mph or more? It's amazing that any of us are even standing if you actually think about it.
1 redditeditard 2015-01-29
Come out to the Berkshires. We got plenty of stars.
1 Ambiguously_Ironic 2015-01-29
CT right? I was actually just out in Newport and Branford a few weeks ago for work, it was nice to actually see some plants that weren't just there for show.
1 redditeditard 2015-01-29
MA, the most western county. http://berkshires.org/ We have museums & theaters & mountains & shit!
1 Ambiguously_Ironic 2015-01-29
So apparently it spans a little bit of both states which is why I was confused. I've gotta check it out though, I sometimes visit Connecticut and Boston for work - I'll set a day or two aside next time and check a few places out.
1 redditeditard 2015-01-29
I'm stoked that Steve Earle is coming next week, Mass MOCA gets crazy good musicians, thanks to Wilco & the Solid Sound festival.
1 redditeditard 2015-01-29
I actually went outside to take a picture of the stars, but it's overcast. We're due to get 4-6" overnight. that's what she said...
2 Ambiguously_Ironic 2015-01-29
It's all good, we were due 24+ the other day and we got like 3.5 so there's nothing she could say that would surprise me at this point.
3 spottedcows 2015-01-29
Thank you. After reading this I cooked some Pad Thai, listened to some Buck Owens on blast and am now enjoying a beer while watching an NBA game(guilty pleasure). There are many things to enjoy in this life while trying to carry the fire, even though the journey can be tough and ostracizing. Doh, I type this as I have two screens on. Fail.

Do you make your sauce from scratch or use a premade one? I buy this sauce made in Thailand at my local Asian grocer but I'm looking for an authentic recipe if you have one.
2 spottedcows 2015-01-29
I do not have an authentic recipe, wish I did. The great thing about this website is that it has changed my lifestyle a little. Eating habits included, as GMO's and Monsanto fit well into this subreddit.
3 hapidjus 2015-01-29
I'm at a crossroads with a business partner who is so angry and paranoid that he fails to recognize how even knowing what we know, we can still be decent to one another, unless they are breaking natural law.

"Nothing anyone says to the contrary is valid or true." That's a great way to subtly inject propaganda.
1 ronintetsuro 2015-01-29
No propaganda meant. Just saying that it's good to change focus sometimes, even if only for a little while.
0 nostrabotamus 2015-01-29
No doesn't mean it can't be done, it just can't be done with you.
2 memnactor 2015-01-29

Great post. Can't be said often enough. Unfortunately when I go outside I see a graffiti covered alley, then when I go further I see an expressway. And when I go further I see more expressways, and more alleys. But that's LA. And oddly enough, I love it. :) I love LA in all its authentic grit and decay. It's like one giant Banksy or something.

I need a vacation..... from life
1 SilverSultan 2015-01-29
Truth be told. Go biking, walking, and share. Smalltalk, big talk, problems and funs. Be cool to everyone. This is how people unite. Not by some flag, or common enemy, or a presidents speech. Those things will only divide you.
