Nah, it's been a great day. /r/conspiracy is on my check-a-few-times-a-day rotation but it won't be as long as that thing is up. I just don't understand what it adds or what the point is at all. Some gore fetishist mod?

Maybe, knowing that now, you'd like to apologize to the family of Hamza Bakkour?
Just like True Detective, don't you dare avert your eyes. Don't look away, despite the horror, because to ignore it is to condone it.
Yeah, that vespa comeback wasn't funny but thanks for playing.
I couldn't care less that the art has blood and I think it's appropriate to what she is trying to do, but I can't risk gore coming up when I browse so it puts this sub in NSFW territory for me. It wasn't in that category prior for me.
Suggestions here have showed me how to browse without seeing the sidebar art, so I'm over it, but if there was anything that found a way to use that space to spread a message in a more constructive way, I'll miss it in the future, because I've turned them off permanently for being potentially NSFW.
You may or may not care, but if the goal is to spread awareness, I'd call it a tool that works counter to that goal.
It's definitely going to have an opposite of the intended effect. It's pretty daft to think an image like this could really help spread awareness. Maybe the user responsible for putting it there has been desensitized enough to stomach such things but most people have some degree of sensibility and will be instantly turned off/away by it.
My job involves having awareness of social media and technological trends so I'm on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Instagram etc. all day and am expected to be.
I also don't smoke so don't take any breaks at all away from my office really, so a little decompression time is fine. I have conversations with my boss about things I'm seeing on reddit from time to time.
As long as the project based work is hitting deadlines and I'm not surfing porn or gore sites, it's all fine.
why should an entire web site be expected to censor and label itself for your convenience so that you can use it while at a job without having to monitor your own browsing habits
Imagine trying to use this subreddit as a junior in high school i get very weird looks. I got in trouble even though we where allowed to use computers for whatever.

I agree. Good call on making this post, thanks, and feel free to message the moderators about it as well.

Reminds of the Hitler pic that decorated the sidebar some weeks ago. Why would someone choose such deterring motifs?

What a horrible painting, please remove it.

Browsing /r/conspiracy at work probably isn't the best way to keep your job anyway...
4 dalovindj 2015-03-06
Never had any problems. But if someone walked by and saw that pointless gore on my screen it would likely be an issue.

Reddits at work, then complains about it, tough day, kiddo?

Use a multi-sub.
1 dalovindj 2015-03-06
Eight years a redditor and I had no idea you could do that. That's cool functionality. Now, what to pair /r/conspiracy with...

/r/endlesswar /r/foodforthought

I think I'll just go with /r/bacon.
2 MrBulger 2015-03-06
Or just turn of subreddit style
Edited for correct verbiage
1 dalovindj 2015-03-06
Style you mean? That works too. Thanks.
2 MrBulger 2015-03-06
Yeah oops.

explains it.

Thanks for explaining the reference, but I didn't do anything to that family.
Anyway, what does that have to do with conspiracies?

So the gore-art is about raising awareness of the poor results of the US funding Syrian rebels? Bit of a long walk, that.

It's supposed to get fired the minority of us that hold jobs.

Redditing instead of working will do that too, unless, you know, redditing is your job?

Sounds like a cool job to have then, I'm self employed and do fuck all work through the winter just because I can :)

Not the entire website. We're just talking about this sub. There are plenty of other subs here that would love this pic.

Good suggestion. Get on it, mods!
1 raka_defocus 2015-03-06
I don't have sub styles turned on, do people not realize that this an option?
1 vemvadhur 2015-03-06
I did not know this was an option, thank you.
1 raka_defocus 2015-03-06
You're welcome, it helps a lot with mobile too.
1 Shagguire 2015-03-06
Idk, I don't really see how this makes it excusable.
-5 Drytruth 2015-03-06
Very true. I'd love it if it were!
