I'm not super keen on the specific designations, in all honesty. Ashkenazis are also known as Khazars? Okay. Fair enough. I kind of like the Ashkenazi designation better, as the "nazi" in it makes it more accurate to what they really are.

In my experience, although logically there are many Sephardim without familial connection to the holocaust. Regardless, this is all tongue-in-cheek. There are Ashkenazi who are part of the theocratic government of Israel and there are Sephardim who are resident citizens of only the US.

They are both cultural/racial groups. The Sephardim are the vast majority of Jews in Israel. The Ashkenazi are the vast majority of Jews elsewhere save a few countries. The structure of caste dominance you imply with your question is not extant. Military conscription is law in Israel and therefore most Sephardim serve in the IDF.

You'd really have to read the laws on conscription in Israel for a precise and accurate answer to that question, but as far as I know exceptions are made only for the extremely religious. Even conscientious objectors perform some form of service.
