Do we have a book club?

7  2015-03-23 by [deleted]

Some ideas:

  • The Grand Chessboard (I need to read this, myself - know your enemy)

  • Common Sense

  • The Communist Manifesto

  • A People's History of the U.S.

  • Manufacturing Consent

  • The Franklin Cover-up

  • The End of America

Other ideas? What could we read and discuss each month or week?

This is a good idea!

I'm in India so hope its not a problem to get a hardcopy. But I'll try! Yea, wait for how many people respond and then we can go from there. :)

gee, that's really nice of you. Thanks!

Family of secrets -- best expose to date of the Bush crime syndicate

Behold a Pale Horse is like a conspiracy manifesto

Let's pick a topic and we can either read the same book or read similar books and in turn discuss differences. I just finished The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield.

There is a book club here, but I don't participate. Search for it - i t is 1 per month I think

Found it.Thank you

IIRC, /u/redditeditard was interested in forming a book club. I know it was discussed, but thats the last ive seen of it... Maybe she could help?

But >IIRC, /u/redditeditard was interested in forming a book club. I know it was discussed, but thats the last ive seen of it... Maybe she could help?

..but /u/redditeditard was supposed to quite reddit for a month! Maybe May 1st?

Oh yea? I wasnt aware of that. Oh well, good luck to her!

I'm not gone, just using the internet less as a distraction and more as a tool. I emailed family members this morning, instead of reading everything in the new queue here! SO, THAT'S PROGRESS!!!! But we're not gonna talk about the 2+ hours I spent fb stalking exes or old classmates last week, umkay?.....

I am down for a book club, despite whatever accountability to my word that /u/jamescolepardon insists on!!! ;)

SO, THAT'S PROGRESS!!!!

As long as each step we take is toward progress, our lives (and the world we live in) become that much better.

And for whats its worth, if using the internet as a tool rather than a distraction, i think you can keep to your word and participate in the book club at the same time ;-)

How to think like Jim (or what I've read in the last year), in no particular order:

Propaganda (Bernays)

Crystallizing Public Opinion (Bernays)

The Global Minotaur (Varoufakis)

The Grand Chessboard (Brzezinski)

Hologram of Liberty (Royce)

1984 (Orwell)

Brave New World (Huxley)

Four Arguments For The Elimination Of Television (Mander)

Shock Doctrine (Klein)

Confessions Of An Economic Hitman (Perkins)

No Treason (Spooner)

The Compete Tales of Winnie The Pooh (Milne)

Secret History Of The American Revolution (Van Dorn) [signed first edition motherfuckers]

The Complete Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers (various)

War Is A Racket (Butler)

Secret History Of The American Revolution (Van Dorn) [signed first edition motherfuckers]

Nerd! Badass nerd!!! :p

You have no idea, lady. No idea.

I won a bet yesterday for knowing Google is based on the word googol....

You need to.

$10.29 with Amazon Prime, should take you a day, tops.

No reason you can't cross that off your list in one week, to be honest.

[deleted]

Then buy it right now. And PM me in a week.

Because things be happening man, and you're either on the sidelines or your in on it.

Get in on it. Because I need you.

So... You ask..

so we have a book club?

And despite the fact that you could use hr search feature and realize that yes, we have a book club, and discussion monthly, evades you, is part of the problem.

Your pressure to buy and PM you is frankly off-putting.

Pressure? I linked you to a book that is immensely important, where you can click a button and have it shipped to your house for >$11, and wanted you to PM me so you could discuss the *mindfuckingly crazy ideas in this ~80 year old book because most people who post threads like this want some guidance and hand-holding. Looks like you're just trolling for what us conspirtards read and what our mindset is, eh? Or am I being paranoid?

I will read alone or as a group, but not with you alone. Sorry.

No apologies needed, because I don't care either way. I was offering you an olive branch, because it's rare for people to want to read this shit. They either legitimately want to know how the world works, or are trying to assess the level of consciousness and awe how far down the rabbit hole people have gotten.

So I don't give a shit about your PM. I could just 'cancel' this reply, but I won't, because I know for every sub we have we have 5 more lurkers. And they need to see this.

Because we get this request often, sometimes genuine, sometimes not.

And I'm on the fence here.

Thoreau, Walden Pond.

That's why I'm here, I don't judge you. PM /u/xl0 if I'm causing any trouble. WUT?

I love me some Howard Zinn, I have both the US and World books. I have some Chomsky I've never read.

Can I suggest with the first book, we do a classic, like Orwell or Huxley? Many e-book services offer them as a Freebie, or people have old beatup high school copies laying around. I'm throwing Fahrenheit 451 into the suggestion pool too!

Are hashtags searchable here? If I search #conspiracyreads1984 are all the related comments going to show?

Did we reach a consensus?
