Do you honestly believe the Russians and Americans would put military communications on shortwave?
The US and Russians use a SATCOM encrypted systems not privy to shortwave listeners and ELF is also used. Regarding joint US military systems. These are incorporated in the GIG.
The Global Information Grid (GIG) is the Department of Defense’s (DOD’s) globally interconnected, end-to end
set of information capabilities, associated processes, and personnel for collecting, processing, storing, disseminating, and managing information on demand to joint forces and support personnel. The GIG includes all owned and leased communications and computing systems and services, software (including applications), data, security services, and other associated services necessary to achieve information security The GIG supports all DOD, national security, related intelligence community missions and functions (strategic, operational, tactical, and business), in war and in peace. The GIG provides capabilities from all operating locations (bases, posts, camps, stations, facilities, mobile platforms and deployed sites). The GIG provides interfaces to multinational and non-DOD
users and systems. Therefore, from a service-oriented perspective, the GIG can be viewed as a set of
computing platforms, weapons systems, and sensors exchanging information through a globally interconnected network.
GIG components are categorized as warrior, global applications, computing, communications, foundation, information management, and network operations (NETOPS).
Defense Information Systems Network (DISN). The DISN is the major element of the GIG. It has three segments: sustaining base, long haul, and deployed. It is DOD’s worldwide enterprise-level telecommunications infrastructure providing end-to-end information transfer for supporting military operations.
This is older stuff as well, and who knows what the DoD has developed since. I'm sure the Russian have a near close system as well. Take it or leave it downvoters.
I bought a shortwave radio to listen to interesting stuff like numbers stations, military coms and other stuff I shouldn't be listening in on. I really only heard stuff like you mentioned with Chinese stuff blasting throughout.
The guy on 14241.10 is a HAM operator that goes by the callsign of EB3CW located in Spain. Here is his info; http://www.qrz.com/db/EB3CW. Normally according to those who spoke with him he transmits in the mornings on the LSB, but tonight is on the USB however.
Score. Got it working, was something weird with Java and wouldn't work on HTML5. I should really get my SW radio out. Don't have an antenna for it apart from the telescopic whip that came with it, I should really get something sorted 'cause stuff like this is fascinating to listen to.
I'm surprised and shocked at the sheer quantity of people calling in and who seem to be in on it. It's ridiculous, there have to be 2-3 people every 30 seconds.
So the loud guy that keeps saying Charlie bravo three is the station or whatever and the others are calling in to him? Do you have any idea what is going on here?
"Echo bravo three charlie whiskey" is what he's saying and yes the others are calling into him and reporting numbers. He's confirming them as they're read to him to make sure he's getting the right number.
edit: Also, I have no clue what's going on. But they're only giving him a few numbers and letters (maybe 3-4). So that can't code much data.
It's a spanish person now, but a few hours ago it was a German. Before that an American. Before that an Arab the a Russian. I;m not lying, should've recorded it, I just don't know if it was NSA or anything. I'm not lying...... ugh.
There's a dude with a Latin American accent speaking english on 14305.01. Just a bunch of call signs and "contact" every now and again. He does sound a bit flustered.
edit: "italy italy two sierra, contact at italy italy 2 sierra" repeated like 20 times, with a heavy latin accent. "two one seven four. two one seven four. italy italy two sierra. italy italy two sierra."
Yes okay, those sound Middle Eastern and some Russian. But why are they speaking in English? And some Italians too.
edit: I made out "Radio Mexico" too.
edit2: "lima zulu three zulu zulu." over and over with people responding every now and again.
edit3: a bunch of people calling back now with numbers and call signs and he's responding with "thank you and good luck." some of these guys sound chinese speaking english too.
This is what I'm asking. Any Ex military can help us. I have no clue. I speak Russian/Polish/ and Czech. But this shit I have no idea. Hence, why I'm asking.
Russian accents are easy, especially if your sister in love is straight off the boat :). I'm a russian/US citizen. I understand 60%. Fuck I wish my parents cared, noooo they are US citizens...
The person on this freq (14305.01) seems to be handing out numbers to the return callers in sequence. Just heard 592124 through 592125 and 592126 given out.
Once he gives out that number, the callers seem to reply with additional letters/numbers.. had to determine most of those last bits, only heard a few that are distinguishable.
They switch, I'll keep you up to date. I'm bored and drunk and listening to this shit, multiple channels. Idk, what it is, which is why I'm asking. I just hear shit and am curious.
Not claiming to be happy. Just trying to show some shit I heard. I'm actually sad, just want to live the American dream, I have a baby you know. :(. I love my country but it has it's flaws. I came here for a reason.

Finally a guy on Reddit who defines acronyms before usage!
1 dubdubdubdot 2015-03-29
Thanks for the useful info. What devices would you need to eavesdrop on SATCOM? And what would they use in event of satellites being destroyed?
2 gaseouspartdeux 2015-03-29
Common knowledge among those with Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) in Communications in US Military.
Now why would I share that out to strangers not cleared for such? Nice try ISIS

Cyka blyat, I'm actually with the FSB and this was our last hope of gaining such vital intel. My plans have been fouled again.

2 Flatwoods 2015-03-29
So he's sitting there with like a checklist saying yo to all his friends in code?
3 BankaiSam 2015-03-29
No idea, just listing info on the operator.
1 Lovehat 2015-03-29
So he isn't anything to do with any military?
2 BankaiSam 2015-03-29
14241.10 on the USB, a distinct voice can be heard speaking in code with 'strong' accent to someone but can't understand the person replying.
2 [deleted] 2015-03-29
Been tuning in, I've heard US, French, Arabic, German and yes Russian. IDK what to make of it... They like to change channels....

1 fxtaken 2015-03-29
yep right now it's another guy taking down numbers. this one is definitely Latin.
"uno siete ocho. gracias y un abrazo." ('one seven eight. thank you and a hug' in spanish)
"thank you very much and good luck."
edit: "echo bravo three charlie whiskey." seems to be his callsign.
the guys calling in are definitely russian with heavy accents in english.
edit2: he speaks italian too.
1 Lovehat 2015-03-29

The numbers refer to a page in a book that tells them what private channel to go to or some other pre planned operation, iirc.
Impossible to decode.
2 fxtaken 2015-03-29
Ahhh thank you.
1 Flatwoods 2015-03-29
Tune in and send some numbers back.

2 Lovehat 2015-03-29

2 [deleted] 2015-03-29
Listen to the channel, it's still up, may need to tune it. I just checked it. Lots of chatter, military, not sure what to make of it.
1 Flatwoods 2015-03-29
Hard to make out if it's on a loop or not.
Edit: hey also what the hell is it
0 [deleted] 2015-03-29
It's not, check this out 14305.01, listen to it. It changes every 5-10 mins, been following it all day. It's Russian, and West ( with Arabs):

there's a fuck ton of people calling back and he's responding with "thank you and good luck." they're reporting some kind of numbers to him.
edit: sometimes he responds with "buona domenica" ('good sunday' in italian).
edit: "what is my number? my number please." *garbled response* "zero zero one eight?" *garbled response* "thank you good luck."
3 Flatwoods 2015-03-29
I want a number...
1 Flatwoods 2015-03-29
Well okay but..if you don't know what they're saying how can you...? What's the context of these transmissions?
1 [deleted] 2015-03-29

Switched to a webSDR i frequent and found a potential explanation for this craziness in the chat:

Seems like it may be related to a contest running this weekend.

Edit 2: The third rule from the contest rules page states:
