Attempts to raise awareness about documentary being sabotaged by industry shills on Reddit

70  2015-04-10 by jbrs_

There is a documentary project on a crowdfunding website (won't mention it by name here) and it appears that all attempts to raise awareness about the campaign are being quickly suppressed, either by industry shills or from Reddit itself.

The creator's original post had 117 upvotes (98% upvoted).

The creator and her supporters (including the mod of the subreddit on which the documentary first appeared) have made several new posts to try to raise awareness, each of which are quickly downvoted and don't get any attention. The documentary is about the dangers of p*******phy, and one 'neuroscientist' has been making several accounts to try to undermine both the documentary and the growing movement against it (link in comments).

Waiting to post link until this gets some visibility.

Edit: Without futher ado, here are the links:

  • "If you're wondering why there's not yet a consensus on the effects of internet porn despite the swell of warnings, you may find the history of the Tobacco Wars instructive. Years ago, most everyone smoked including movie stars on screen. People loved puffing. It calmed the nerves, offered a predictable buzz and looked sophisticated. How could such a wonderful activity really be detrimental? Was nicotine truly addictive? When tar showed up in cadaver lungs incredulous smokers preferred to blame asphalt.”

just post the damn link and let us judge what is this about

The only reason that I haven't is that I think whoever is down voting the posts is searching for them based on any connection to the documentary. I will message you as well.

Would you send me a link also, please?

sure

But we marched for free speech in France right? We are the people. We are free to hate who the govt tells us to. Oh.

But I may forget about this and not come back for the link. May I get a name or title at least?

I will message you. It's getting close to the top of /r/conspiracy, so I should be able to post it soon. Also, please let me know if you get my message-- I'm not sure if they're going through (I sent about 10 out to try to raise awareness for my most recent post, and did not get any replies).

I did get the message. Thank you. Great topic, looking forward to reading into this.

I'm going to be completely honest with you and let you know that I don't think shills are trying to down vote your link. That's just the good old masturbating reddit community letting you know that we don't care if porn is rewiring our brains about sex. Porn is awesome. Take your nofap posterchild documentary elsewhere. People just honestly don't like the documentary or its premise.

I can see where you're coming from, and you may be right that it may not be because of paid shills. But I think it's odd that this particular documentary is singled out to be suppressed over all the other posts on NoFap, especially given it's very warm initial reception (100+ upvotes on NoFap is a lot).

I agree that most people don't like the premise of this documentary. I'd ask them to examine why though. NoFap isn't asking anyone to believe anything that they can't validate by their own experience-- and it's currently growing at 1.5x total subscribers per year.

He can't speak for anyone but himself... And to counter op, I'd be interested in this.

I'm agreeing on the poster's premise that your documentary is receiving the negative karma due to the fact that there's a super majority of masturbating fools on reddit. I'm going to withhold the vitriol since it lends nothing to the conversation.

I'm surprised that it's getting no attention on NoFap, a sub dedicated to helping people overcome porn and masturbation, where it already was very well received at one point.

Maybe they are like most Christians I know and lie about their morals in order to fit in with their perceived social group.

There's no incentive to lie on an anonymous website where the only benefit you receive is in proportion to how much you believe in what you're participating in...

Also, generalizing to an entire group based on a few examples is not only bad logical practice, but it also limiting and destructive.

You should learn to comprehend written word before attempting to participate in a conversation.

I honestly don't want to get into a debate about porn. Porn, as with all other things, should be taken in moderation. With that said, you just went fishing for up votes on /r/conspiracy under the guise that your material was being surpressed. It seems like perhaps it was just unpopular.

Okay, I won't try to debate you. But with regard to "fishing for upvotes [...] under the guise that [my-- documentary isn't mine btw if that's what you mean] material is being suppressed", I already addressed that:

I can see where you're coming from, and you may be right that it may not be because of paid shills. Exactly. It going to come off as some uptight religious bullshit to anyone who just glances at it. People like tits and ass. End of story.

Message me as well, I want to see what this is.

You're surprised that a documentary calling porn dangerous and addictive isn't getting love on Reddit? Seriously?

yeah for sure

you know i was watching an interview of two french resistants who engaged against pedophilia, they live underground and are actively being searched...

One of the thing that strikes me the most in the interview is the omnipresence of shills in the web sphere, it's far beyond what i have imagined, some of the names they provided are well rooted in the online resistance space, one for example is a renowned whistleblower on food additives (well really it's just a book translator but still she walks the mile to warn against them), she had her two daughters kidnapped for satanic purposes, was angry at first but somehow... they flipped her (or scared her), such that now not only will she never mention her daughters, but worse she will attack the underground resistants in courts for their assistance with the daughters.... it's all very fucked up. Not porn but pedophilia is probably where porn leads over the course of a couple decades.
