Not all of us are and there are quite a few of us that could teach you a thing or two about living "off the grid". From an old American to an old Pole; You have no idea what kind of people are in the backcountry (America is big and you don't know all of it being in your Mid-west flat-land) and you shouldn't lump us in with domesticated city-people. ;)

95% solar 5% grid. They will raid you. It happened twice before, just show some electricity, but fake it. Hence my microwave. The bill is near zero, but still shows. ugh.

We would all love to be self sustainable, congrats on living somewhere you can be. Most people dont live in the middle of nowhere.

I grew up in San Francisco and last year moved to Alaska to try and live a better more natural life than the one someone could have in a city. I'm only 25 but see exactly what your talking about op. I just moved up to a cabin on a farm completely off the grid to work for room and food and learn how to farm and actually live rather than live off of cultures con game.

Culture is a con. Those in it long enough who pay attention either learn that all it wants is to play you as a fool, pick your pocket and get your vote. People either see it for what it is and want to get out. Or end up defending it in some type of Stockholm syndrome.

Bro, what if everyone decided to uproot and do what you did? It would cancel it out wouldnt it? Eventually youd be right back where you began. Its not the answer. It may be your answer but youd be wise not promoting it. This kills the 'off the grid' part of it.

What we've built can be amazing and would be once we cut out the rot. We have technology to wipe out manual labor, we should be celebrating. Instead, we fear it. There should be food everywhere, there isnt. Why? Because a few select people who have way too much want everything. The real answer is getting rid of those people and busting that fat pinata wide open. We're facing a hell that could easily be paradise. There are more of us than there are of them, a lot more. And its right there for the taking. Just take it.

But seriously...the state system is so entrenched and resilient and concerned with keeping power I wouldn't say it's right there for the taking. Many good people over many years have given their lives trying to 'bust that pinata' for all.

Just got to make the choice. My family lived in Soviet Russia, we knew the state (Soviet controlled Poland). We traveled here for a new life. My grand father passed so much on to me.

I am american and working towards self-sufficiency. My husband and i moved out of the city. He has an epic commute but i am leaving my slave wage job to commit to homesteading 100%. I feel you though. Not enough people are taking responsibility for their lives.

You act like being informed must equate with living in the woods. The two are not mutually exclusive. Having said that, I do in fact one day hope to do so. Problem is I don't know anybody who lives off the grid, I would need to learn from someone, do kind of a trial run.
