Voat is similar to Reddit with no censorship based on political incorrect speech. You can pretty much say what's on your mind and not get banned, shadow banned or harassed by Mods and Admins
Because speech changes minds. Some speech is too dangerous to be allowed. Cultural Marxist and Communist can't win the arguments so they just shut down the debate.
What Zues said. You're more than welcome to be distracted by base interests, same reason there are so many drug, sports, consumer, etc. threads. Bread and Circuses. When you're full and entertained (or I guess making stalactites on the bottom of your desk in this case), you're not thinking about reality, let alone taking charge of yours.
A CS student in Switzerland of eastern European descent, No he has not listed his IRL name but apparently he got doxxed at some stage early on in voat.
"What is Voat? You may be asking yourself that question right now. The about section of Voat summarizes what Voat is pretty well so I am just going to copy and paste it here.
Voat™ (pronounced voat as in goat) officially launched in April 2014 as a media aggregator website featuring user-posted content.
Voat initially started as a hobby project by a third year BSc student in Lund, Sweden. Due to the recent interest generated by the online community, this has evolved from hobby into full-fledged desire to create the website that will become "the place where you can have your say™"
What does that mean? It means we wish to be the site that is your internet front page, the first and last place you visit when online. No legal subject in this universe should be out of bounds. You will have influence of your site, creating an impressive universe of content tailored to you. Whoa indeed. Seriously though, our aim is to build a site that serves the needs and wants of our users; one that strives for quality over quantity, and doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator in return for traffic.
How is Voat Different from Reddit?
Voat is not a reddit clone. Voat is a ground-up rewrite of the reddit concept, created from scratch in C#, and only shares reddit's appearance at this early design stage. It is an open source project under the GPL. Where reddit's code is an ancient fossilized mess written in a scripting language, Voat's code is new and flexible, designed with multiple communities and powerful tools in mind from the start, and written in a much more powerful language. This means Voat will be easier to change than reddit, and able to implement more nuanced features. Voat is at the beginning of its evolution. Reddit's code has become an evolutionary dead end.
Honestly, its a better alternative than none. Plus, even if it were run by some evil corporation like Reddit is, the set out is more user friendly anyway.
Voat is useless. "You can't vote on Voat". I call it "Gloat" because once anybody has something evil to say about Reddit, then everybody talks about "voat" like it's some special place. It's not. You have to have 100 "comment karma" before you can vote. And that's only one of the reasons why I won't use it.
You need 100 to DownVote, not just vote. That would be mathematically impossible in your scenario. No one can vote in your scenario because they would need 100 upvotes themselves to even start voting. I'm guessing that the limit is put in place so as to prevent a bunch of fake accounts being created to manipulate voting. You don't even need to provide an email to create an account so I can see why they would have that in place. Frankly Voat seems like a nice escape boat for when Reddit Diggs its own grave.
There are other discussion forums online where you don't have to have karma to participate. I just don't see the point of Voat if it's only there to compete with Reddit
Personally I like it, I just started. You were trying to spread purposefully false information though to try and deter people from it. So I pointed out the correction, then stated my opinions on the matter.

Yeah, gotta love the BNW/1984 dystopian hybrid we're enjoying.

Well, when you put it that way, I'm now scared shitless.

You're talking shit. You can say anything you want on reddit.

You can say anything you want on reddit. Just create your own subreddit and say away!

There is so much downvoting/manipulation now. Reddit is dying. This is absurd. The most important things are being instantly buried.
-1 jafbm 2015-05-21
Hardly. It's just becoming more and more corporate. Not dying at all

"Who would downvote this".
But seriously, this is a great example.

Who owns voat?
2 myxzyp 2015-05-21
ATKO, he posts there quite regularly.
2 pilgrimboy 2015-05-21
Who is that? That sounds like just a screen name. Is their transparency in ownership?

like, how do you mean?
2 pilgrimboy 2015-05-21
I want to know who he is. That's transparency. But I guess, according to the other commenter, that proved to be a problem in the past.
I don't want to support a business ran by anonymous profiteers.

Reddit is not run by an evil corporation. It's run by Conde Nast. They own Wired among other publications. Hardly evil.

He posts in a lot of the subs and even submits content to some of them. There's as much transparency as you could really ask for.
0 pilgrimboy 2015-05-21
Mark Zuckerberg is a big shareholder in Facebook. That's the sort of transparency I'm looking for.

What information did I post that was false? You have to have 100 comment karma before you can vote. That is true.
2 wolfgang617 2015-05-21
No, you are limited to 10 votes per day until you have 20 comment karma. It is 100 to downvote. Just because you say it is true does not make ot so.
