RE: /r/AdviceAnimals

In this post, the user had been messaged by someone impersonating a moderator of /r/AdviceAnimals.

This user was NOT banned from AdviceAnimals, and we actually had no idea the user was even messaging in attempts to contact us.

Note the "O" instead of "0" of our current moderator. The user impersonating a mod has since deleted their account. /u/246O1G

As a note, when ANY user is banned from ANY subreddit, it will be sent from the subreddit, and not a personal account <- legit ban.

Thanks for hearing me out!

If you have any questions always feel free to mod mail us, and we'll be glad to answer!

Its disgusting to think someone creates a user name on a forum similar to a moderators, impersonates the mod while acting as a victim of an unfair ban, and then comes on a conspiracy sub reddit to publicize what happened.

That is just sad. Who the fuck would waste their time just to do this? Why are so many people commenting and discussing on that post when there are a million other things we could be talking about. Out of all of the conspiracy theories and interesting links posted on this sub, how does this one get pushed to he front page so easily?

I used to read this sub for its genuine discussion on possible theories that much of the public flat out denied. Now we just bitch about meta reddit and it's sad to see this sub go to this.

yeah man,..the fact someone devoted the fucking time to this to begin with is pathetic

Kinda like that front page last week. That's what blows my mind the most about shit like this. Who the fuck takes the time to be so hateful?

We all know people are paid to be on sites like this and push the company's marketing or political agenda. But there are some people who have so much time on their hands that this is what they do when they are bored. Either way it is quite pathetic and not needed here.

I busted this story wide open!!

I got one of those

A lot of people did. :/

Admins should constantly monitor /r/FreeKarma, there's a lot of new spam accounts posting there to get some karma to circumvent the 9 minute rule, including this guy.

Commiserations. I can only imagine the state of your modmail.

It was definitely a ton of different users. Considering the number of responses we've had in modmail so far, I know the number of messages the user sent out was much larger. We've stickied a thread informing users how to determine if a ban is legitimate to help educate the users.

Hopefully it helps some.

This might actually be worth announcing in r/undelete too. May as well put the place to good use for once.

Yes, right. So, as president of Reddit, I wanted to issue an official statement about that. It was all very embarassing but it's an isolated incident and it had nothing to do with the NSA. Carry on.
