She then will go out and give another interview saying that she had to quit due to harassment from the users and she felt threatened and discriminated only because she's a strong independant woman.

So how will she do international lawsuits? Im pretty sure living in a non Pao infested country means I cannot be sued. I am not a law student but I am ~70% sure
You cannot sue in Nz unless its through the disputes tribunal, which would laugh at keyboard warriors against Pao. She would be dismissed with a large fine
If she sues reddit for creating an uncomfortable workplace anything, she will be spectacularly done in the corporate world. No one will come within a MILE of that trainwreck. How can you justify to a conservative board of directors and your corporate board insurer that she will not be a huge liability.
All of them. A senior C level executive is expected to be available to work whenever required. Most put in a lot of time, but it is wholly dependant on the executive and the board's discretion/oversight.
My dad is a CTO and executive VP for a large global company and literally is on 24/7, whether that means 3am conference calls with India or flying to Singapore tomorrow if there is a fire he needs to put out. That's why they are paid what they are paid. They are working 24/7, even when they're not.
No, at least for Chicago fire department my uncle works 24 on, 48 off. Not sure what shifts are for cops, but it's not even in the same discussion as C-level executives.
Also, being a soldier is a personal choice. If they wanted to work 24/7 and get paid more they could have gone into a different profession and perhaps work their way up to a c-level and make more money.
I'm not really sure I understand how she could possibly get away with trying to sue her former employer (for the exact amount of money her criminal, old-folks-robbing pension-plan-looting scam artist husband owed his lawyers) for non-existent bullshit - then somehow gets the CEO job at 'the frontpage of the internet'?
Can someone explain to me how this works? I think the only way it makes sense is a. crazy feminists running reddit, or b. pao is a fall guy(girl) to implement annoying censorship bullshit and turn reddit's direction around from 'free speech' to 'corporate propaganda mill with cat pictures and promos'.
Clearly no one will hire her because she is a strong independent woman. At that point she'll just start suing every company that doesn't hire her due to obvious discrimination.
You don't think that given the conspiracy posited by OP that there isn't some value to be had of her as the 'bad cop'? If it's correct, then she's done her job with flying colors, all things considered.
There are dozens of names I could refer to as 'tainted' and the fact is, that's their selling point: that's even why I know their names in the first place. "Kardashian" comes to mind. So does Miley.
You fail to realize that there is a bigger market out there than just what you want or what you think others want or should want.
The rub is that this is a delicate game played internally by Reddit and most of their employees are not in on it however Pao probably rules with an iron fist so they fear her and just yes ma'am everything (except those that are making the tricky decisions).
Except a strong, independent woman would probably stand up to her detractors, accept responsibility for her actions, apologize, and learn from her mistakes.
But then, I don't expect anything she says to be true, either.
The media is pushing the online harassment narrative hard right now in an attempt to reign in anonymity on the internet, and a big profile CEO of a website like Reddit having to resign because she feared for her life etc. due to this online harassment is the perfect way to advance that narrative.
She is an ethnic woman, I shudder to think about the disparaging comments they probably already have access to in order to make this case into something that really does ruin the internet.. or free speech in general, which for 'the front page of the internet' is frustratingly ironic.
This isn't how the world works. Pao was installed to make changes - she's making them. If you check the Alexa charts, it's working. She doesn't work for the 'community' - she works for the investors. Her tenure will likely last until the investors at least double their money - but in this case, it's probably quadruple. If she is run out as a result of the uproar, the changes won't stop - there will just be a warmer figure in her position. You know, they're both dry handjobs, but one has warmer hands. This is about money.
BTW - the little hissy fit that Reddit had this week.... the mods need new tools do they? Reddit wasn't supposed to have powerful mods. The tools were never meant to exist - that's what the downvote button is for. Mods ruined that. Modding subs is a HOBBY.... there's no need to mod 20 subs and ruin them.... just get a new HOBBY and quit crying like bitches.
Edit:
I was just banned by /u/noeatnosleep from /r/texas and probably every other of the 50+ subs he mods for having a mod power discussion - it's laughable. This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. This is why you have to use alts here. Who is hitler? /u/noeatnosleep and mods just like him are the reason reddit sucks ass. You people are whipping the wrong person. It's the mods like /u/noeatnosleep that ruin reddit. He's actively deleting his responses and banning me so that he can control the CONVERSATION - and accusing me of spamming. My comments have all been on topic for the posts they are in reply to. My comments have been thoughtful. I was banned from /r/texas for replying to a post asking for MORE MODERATION when I simply pointed out that less would be better. He then banned me from /r/shitadminssay and /r/motorcycles SEIG HEIL /u/noeatnosleep SEIG HEIL!!! -what a douchebag loser wannabe powertripping shithead - he sums up everything that is wrong with reddit and then whines about what a great community resource he is - hilarious. Idiot mods that reddit uses and abuses that get on power trips and then lie to cover their tracks. What will losers like this do when the zero pay gravy train becomes an echo chamber?
You have to read the chart in context. Pao took the charge in November of '14. Immediately the site jumped up by 20 positions. Between then and very late march, it jumped by another 10. You're seeing a drop off in late spring - why is that? People went outside when the weather got nice. Look at the other sites out there by visitors- exact same curve for social sites. Like it or not, by that measure (which means advertising $$) Pao has been REMARKABLY successful. Does she deserve credit? I don't know, and frankly, it doesn't matter. Investors care about results - Pao is getting them.
It is annoying how right you are. Did you notice that NSFW subreddits rarely makes the front page of /r/all any more? That change to filtering happened soon after her installation.
You used to wake up on Saturday morning to a front page of the previous night's gonewild.
Bold move trying to increase traffic by limiting nudity.

Of course it is for marketability, you're right. The limiting nudity part is funny as I work for an NSFW site that puts as much nudity online as we can.

She was installed to make changes and take the blame. The investors know where the site has to get to and they know it isn't going to be pretty. Back when Alexis tried to pitch reddit to Stratfor they said it wouldn't be worth it and Reddit wasn't compatible with paid content. The only reason we know about that is because of Wikileaks, it's not a stretch to assume he tried elsewhere. I can only imagine everything since then has been to make it compatible. How is that not the way the world works?
I think the point that you're missing is that there is no "blame" - nobody cares what you, or I think. Pao will be measured SOLELY on her ability to drive revenue and and EBITDA - that's it. It's what CEO's do. Management is not a popularity contest to employees, or users. Now, if the users go away.... that's another thing altogether. But, Reddit continues to grow, so far, it's only pushed the buttons of mods, people that dislike overweight people, pedophiles, and racists - Reddit DOES NOT want strong mods - so the little revolt this weekend is funny to me. Mod tools? LOLOLOLOLOL don't hold your breath. The statement Pao is making right now, but nobody wants to hear is this: Reddit has little revenue and lots of the wrong kinds of users - you'll see ;-)
You're not wrong... But a LOT of users are being driven away in the process. Maybe the site will make a comeback as a watered down, sanitized - but still racy for the church crowd - shadow of its former self. Good on 'em if it works, I suppose, just sad to see it go down this way.
Someone who is smart enough to see the evil of the game but still plays it deserves to bleed out.
Corporations are anti intellectual, and anti knowledge. The fact that even a place that used to have totally free speech is becoming just like every other social network garbage. She's throwing reddit into the dumpster for the rats to eat.
Maybe it's because I was actually around for the r/jailbait fiasco, but I never really bought into this idea of reddit as a totally free speech zone. Doxing and sexually suggestive images of minors have been banned for years now.
Well, at the time it was being argued that it skirted illegality by only allowing clothed pictures. Besides, as far as I know posting "/u/tehgreatblade's real name is John Smith" is perfectly legal, and again, that's been banned for years.
I realize the site is monetized and they can ban whomever they want for any reason but I just miss the genuine discussions we used to have on here. Basically all the subs I used to trust including this one have been hijacked.
Business strategy and what CEO's usually do isn't a matter of opinion. If he's wrong, let's hear why.
And it's also funny you should make a comment like yours in a subreddit like this in the first place.
Of course we have to sit and wait to see exactly what happens. But I don't think MostlyAnnoying would disagree there. The "facts" he's talking about is either data or what you'd read in a textbook. But you realize he's also speculating right? Or can you not find the differences in his statements?
The point I'm missing is yours.. I kind of got your first comment but this isn't making any sense to me and is not relevant at all to why she was brought on as CEO.
edit: The blame that's being referred to is the blame shes receiving for things, or did you miss the 2 days of Pao Nazism on the front page after FPH was banned? And everything since, she's getting the blame. That blame exists, you can't say it doesn't. I get how she's measured as a CEO doesn't rely to her reddit ratings, but that doesn't mean she can't be a scapegoat used to keep the rest of reddit here.
What I mean is this: all the nazi symbolism, shaming, beating, etc. - none of it matters. When she's done the job she was selected to do, in the CEO circle (that pays pretty well, BTW) it'll be a battle scar, and she'll be known as a "tough cookie". CEO's do remarkably unpopular things. I HATE my CEO - I literally think he's satan. But, I respect the fact that he's doing the job he board of directors hired him to do. At the same time, I'm not sure how he sleeps at night. I'm sure he has thick skin - I bet Pao has thick skin, too. She commented that the personal attacks don't faze her - I believe her; she's here to change things. Change is very uncomfortable.
State of affairs? You mean the massive revolt where nobody that reddit wants to stay will leave? You mean the free publicity? These are just potholes, my friend. This is why she's here. There is no blame.
I agree with everything you're saying except for this. It is the definition of blame what we are seeing, I don't see how you can say there is no blame.
Blame: Blame is the act of censuring, holding responsible, making negative statements about an individual or group that their action or actions are socially or morally irresponsible, the opposite of praise
If you want to make an omelette, you have to break some eggs. Is that blame?
These things that are happening are a means to an end. When the investors get what they want fro Pao, they aren't going to "blame" her for achieving it on their behalf - they're going to PAY her. These things are unpopular - but I'm sure she's got some major incentives to do it, to make the unpopular changes. The fact that some neckbeards using adblock want to "blame" her for trying to make the business viable, and provide ROI for the investors doesn't matter.
I'm not talking about the investors, I realize they aren't going to "blame" her. But many redditors, the neckbeards you are speaking of, do blame her for just about everything, and it's by design. You can say that their blaming her doesn't matter, that's fine, but that's much different than saying there is no blame or it doesn't exist. When the investors do throw her out, or she quits, or however she exits those redditors that were previously blaming her will now stay and see what happens, rather than leave the second a viable alternative shows up.
Oh I see what you're saying: "Under Pao, there's been uncomfortable change for people that use the site for free that think they matter, even though they really don't as long as reddit grows and the investors see an ROI - and I feel the need to blame somebody for simply doing their job". Okay, sure, blame Pao.
I think you're missing me entirely here. I'm not blaming her and I agree with you mostly (I did not intend that pun). I'm just admitting that yes, there are people that are blaming her. There is a petition over 100k that want her to resign because of things lately, no I didn't sign.
It's never going to happen, the roadmap is in place, and the mod tools are not on it. She is basically overseeing the transition. This happens all the time in business. VC is how business like this work, no conspiracy just life.
This is what happened at the old company I worked at. Old CEO decided to quit supposedly because word of mouth 'he didn't like what they were deciding to do with the company' ..few months later after his resignation is up we get a new CEO from Vegas, they the company implements their plans, cutting 10% of workers, cutting open hours, turning half the town against them ect, everybody learns to hate the new CEO guy and put all the blame on him. Company gets rid of him and voila, suddenly they're the good guys and the hired gun was just a patsy to implement all their shit changes.
This is pretty much every US company that isn't a mom & pop type shop. It's why so many companies use a management agency to help them staff C-level positions.
Where I work now the CEO is basically just a guy that poses in pictures, the Board is who makes all the decisions.
Yep. I witnessed it at a company I used to work for. A new CEO was brought in and their job was to shed enough of the company to make it an attractive acquisition target.
The person took all the heat, accomplished the goal of getting someone to buy the company and jumped out of the plane with a spectacular golden parachute.
This is what it's about. I like that you referred to family owned businesses, too - although the pay tends to be lower, it's the only way to avoid the churn. Many of us see private equity as the good guys - folks, private equity firms are the .1% - they drive our economy, kill your jobs, suppress your wages, and laugh all the way to the bank - then they do it again 5 years later - sucking the souls out of the companies they destroy.
That would be fantastic. Of course, the mods are making empty threats by closing down subs for 2 hours. The truth is, the mods will NEVER quit - for most of them, it's the only influence they'll ever have. Instead, each sub should be given a maximum of two moderators - and each user can moderate no more than two subs. This would require some unfucking of the reddit voting tweaks that should have never happened. Reddit would be confusing for about a week - then things would be wonderful.
They may. But that would be hyprocritical (lol - not like mods are hypocritical, ever). If it matters, and I'm just yapping, the platform could track IP's for mods or something to slow it down - but more appropriate would be to just ask that people don't mod 58 subs - that would be enough for many.
not sure... spike started about the time she joined. It got hot and heavy Jan-March and then settled down a bit as the neckbeards went outside and melted in the sunlight.
Interesting that everyone quotes reddit as #31 in visits. In fairness, it's #10 in the US - many of the top 30 are redundant Google entries that are geographically specific - then there's language specific video and social sites etc.
Nope. They won't be. Reddit is growing. The folks that are "leaving" haven't gone anywhere. Even if they did, it wouldn't have much impact - because there's no place to go. Voat isn't the answer - even if it scaled to take on the traffic - it's just a copy. The first thing that happened is people went and created the exact same subs on reddit, with almost no subcribers and no content. Someday Reddit will slide, but, it'll be after the next capital event. You can bank on it. All this shit going on right now? Well, that's just growing pains.
Personally, I think reddit sucks ass - because of moderators, not admins. But hey, here I am.
I might not fully understand your comment.....but Reddit isn't a copy of either of those (or the old Digg, for that matter) - yet Voat is a carbon copy of Reddit. For that reason alone, it will never win.
I couldn't beleive Voat went out a STARTED with moderators which is what ruined reddit.
Doesnt anyone remember reddit before moderators? We had no troubles at all.
The spam thing never happened. User voting works.
The thing is it was too successful in politics. Reddit had ahufe effect and reddit mass actions shifted some big political battles and that why they toom it over and decentralized it and started destroying it and tur ing it into a picture site.
Reddit is only valuable because of the users... A social network with 50 SJWs on it isn't a billion dollar website. Reddit generated a lot of goodwill over the years by being a hive of intellectual discussion and refuge of free speech...
They are currently obliterating that in record speed. If the 'investors' don't see that, they are really shitty investors. And anyone who buys Reddit after this mutilation is a damned fool.
When your pitch for your social network is, "Of course they'll use us. They have nowhere else to go." you have serious fucking issues.
If you look at the solutions I'm advocating, you'll see I'm no Pao shill. I'm doing two things: advocating that reddit be returned to what it was meant to be; and spitting a little bit of wisdom about how a CEO is measured. I'm not a Pao fan. She's been remarkably successful as a CEO - even if actions under her direction are unpopular with many users.
To be a remarkably successful CEO in this greed infested capitalist world we've created you must be a remarkably shitty ass person to your fellow human beings. This is fact.
The only exception to this rule is when you're doing shitty things to 100 people, to save 1000 - as long as that doesn't happen against the backdrop of the wrong people getting rich, these are the good guys. Unfortunately, these days, these guys make their first few million and it's just not good enough - they have to fuck over people that have spent their entire adult lives building something great - and fuck them over for more yachts to waterski behind - meanwhile, the folks that built the company can't retire, can't pay for their kids college, etc. I'm watching this happen now - it's very sad. I constantly feel bad that I quite literally wish my CEO would die to spare the pain he's causing others - just to line his pockets.
I just banned you from /r/texas because you are a two-day old anti-mod troll account and you were trolling there.
The only reason I didn't ban you instantly and started talking to you was because I didn't check your profile first. As soon as I realized you were an alt troll account, you were correctly banned accordng to our sidebar rules.
So, say whatever makes you sleep better, even if it's falsehood.
A post asking for more admins - and someone expresses an opinion that is relevant to the ask of new mods. A discussion takes place - and one that as a moderator of that sub, you should support. You hear an opinion you don't like - you downvote it as you should. And then you ban.
What I find so, so sad about this is that you don't understand that doing that is wrong - it's in contrast to everything reddit was meant to be.
I spent 15 minutes in your user history. My primary has been banned by you (as I tried to put in a thoughtful comment addressing all this publicly, in the discussion we were having, but you banned me while I was typing it).
See, you asked me questions. You engaged me. But I was trolling? Then as I typed a very long, thoughtful response, you banned me (edit) before I could hit submit.
So, who has the problem?
Why would a troll bother having this discussion with you to begin with? I mean it's a private discussion now, isn't it? (edit: I thought I was replying to a reddit mail - even more proof I'm not trolling) It is because you censored and banned when you found something you disagreed with. As a moderator, can you not justify your actions in the sub you moderate is the form of a conversation that was ON TOPIC? If you can't, maybe you should take a month off - and see if the sub collapses without you rather than making claims about how much you help (not saying you don't help). I think you have an inflated sense of your value to the community you censor. That's all.
I'm sorry you view it as an attack on you personally. See, when people moderate, they sort of owe it to the ones they moderate to have discussions now and then - but you're not into that. You ban.
edit: see () I thought I was responding to a reddit mail from this mod. Even more proof I'm not "trolling". This is another case of a ban happy mod that mods over 50 subs - stifling discussions - a prime example of a power-tripper.
You're a 2 day account that bounces from place to place and spouts the same stuff all over reddit instead of engaging in the community in a helpful manner.
If you were an actual /r/texas user and not a 2 day old troll account that jumps from subreddit to subreddit with the same exact thing to say, you wouldn't have been banned.
And you absolutely did attack me personally. You've called me names, said 'heil noeatnosleep', and called me the worst mod on reddit.
That's because you are the among the worst mods on reddit that I've encountered. You are a power-tripper.
All feel free to check my post history. I invite it. I'm also happy to provide reddit mail screen shots of this mod in action, and archived copies of his deleted comments in the conversation he banned me for.
My comments have been specifically on-topic and thoughtful. /u/noeatnosleep is a power mod - engaging those that moderate is not a violation of any reddit rule. BANNING USERS for having civil discussion that are ON POINT and ON TOPIC are absolutely violations of reddit rules.
Imagine that, a user resorting to using an alt to have discussions about moderation - the MOST PREVALENT TOPIC ON REDDIT FOR THE LAST THREE DAYS - of course power-tripping mods are going to cry "TROLL! TROLL!"
You were banned for being a novelty/troll account, not for what you said.
As I said in modmail, feel free to come back on a real account that engages regularly in community activities and doesn't bounce from sub to sub saying the same thing.
Also, I didn't delete anything, after I looked at your account and realized I was feeding a troll, I removed the whole conversation. The subreddit doesn't benefit from engaging or tolerating trolls.
This is not a novelty / troll account. Just because it's two days old because I don't want to my primary banned (imagine that - since you banned me) does not make it novelty - it makes you predictable. You were not feeding a troll - you were simply not controlling the conversation - so you banned
Good job stopping with the bold and the Hitler stuff and the yelling. It makes you seem a little more reasonable.
And I didn't ruin reddit, I created a large portion of it. Remember the default sub /r/gadgets? It was a tiny sub that was 100 percent spam, almost no one read, had default reddit styling, and was a total eyesore.
I took that sub, got rid of the spam (and get rid of it daily, 70 percent of submissions there are spam), made some basic rules, wrote bots, recruited mods, got some great CSS, and started advertising it. Then it was selected for default status because of all of the hard work that I, personally, did.
Now it has millions of subscribers, tons of great content, and is one of the most popular gadget forums in the world.
I am not ruining anything. I am creating and maintaining the website that you are currently commenting on. If it wasn't for me, you probably wouldn't even be here.
I would be here. Gadgets aren't my thing. Every encounter I've had with you in three years has been smug - even if you and Al Gore built the Internet. Writing some scripts is not impressive to me. CSS is elementary. Congratulations on gadgets - it has no relevance to this conversation.
You did break rules. You know you broke rules - the problem is, your head is so far up your own ass that you've lost sight of the ability to recognize that your moderation "authority" is not supposed to include shutting down valid, reasonable conversation that you happen to disagree with. You simply have a misguided belief that it's appropriate for you to interpret things that you don't agree with as trash that must be removed from the boring attempts at utopia that you strive to create - so that you can control them. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
No, you wouldn't be here, because if it wasn't for myself and other people like me, this website wouldn't be here.
What rules have I broken?
I can't believe I have to repeat myself again. You weren't banned for disagreeing. You were banned for posting on a troll account.
As I have said three to five times, feel free to come back to /r/Texas any time you like, as long as you are an active community member and not a one topic, 2 day old troll account.
If I banned people for disagreeing I would have banned you on the spot instead of talking to you. It just took me a while to look at your account and realize you were a troll.
A three day old account, setup in fear of being banned for taking an unpopular position with mods, while having perfectly reasonable discussions about the most active topic on reddit, in posts that are relevant to that conversation is not trolling. You simply banned speech you disagree with - that's all that happened. NONE of my posts were trolls. EACH of them contributed to the conversation. NONE of them have negative downvotes. The alt account was used specifically because these days you have to FEAR mods that are ban happy - of which /u/noeatnosleep is one. You claim "not to ban" - yet you're the only mod to ban - in a thread ABOUT MODERATION. HOW IS THIS TROLLING? How is participating actively in the most active topic on reddit trolling? Why do all of your responses start with "you have no idea..." or "you don't know what you're talking about?" When you prove I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about by bopping me with the ban hammer???
More bolded all caps yelling. Totally not a troll. It's great. The more you talk the dumber you look.
You keep missing the point. You don't contribute in /r/Texas. That's what makes you a troll. You only came there on a two day old troll account to talk about one issue that you're jumping from sub to sub yelling about.
That's a troll.
If you were a user who frequented the subreddit, cared about the subreddit, talked or submitted content in the subreddit, you wouldn't have been banned.
Since you aren't any of those things, you're not welcome.
No, it's more like: says the alt of a 7 year redditor, who used to moderate a handful of subs, but stopped being a mod because of the way moderation evolved. When speaking out against mods, it's best to use an alt - because the underground mod network could decide to silence me across most of reddit, or even push for a hellban. It happens every day, friend. The fact that I have to use an alt to post this says volumes.
Not really. Since not deleting it could mean anything, it just fails to provide information. That's the best option for Reddit, since if they're up to anything shady, they don't tip their hand, and if they're not up to anything shady, they don't inadvertently make it look like they are.
Or in other words, it's a classic case of the absence of evidence not being evidence of absence.
By not deleting it, they can say to the non-conspiracy folk, "Those guys at /r/conspiracy are so crazy, right?"
The thing is, many people do not believe a conspiracy ever takes place and everything is what it is at face value despite the evidence in history many conspiracies have taken place. Most of those people are just ignorant and simple do not care. They are the sheepeople (sp?) and where the easy money is to be made for reddit.
Deleting the post can only make somebody question, "If those people are crazy, why even bother deleting that? Why not just close the sub down? Why not delete more of their crap?" It allows for many more questions of motive, so I feel ignoring it is a good option because of what I said. They are following along with the discredit the other side tactic.
Reddit fucked their options already. Don't act like they're any sort of victim.
"Oh, Steve killed the baby. Great. So if he turns himself in he goes to jail and if he runs he's still a dick and will go to jail when they catch him. GREAT OPTIONS FOR STEVE."
Show no respect to their userbase? Fuck over /r/IAMA? Zero communication? STILL refuse to actually apologize here instead of TIME Magazine which clearly wasn't directed toward us?
Why should they respect the userbase anymore? They overreacted to reddit enforcing rules on harassment and now they're upvoting swastika's and comparing Pao to Hitler. There's no need for apology when your userbase starts acting like 12 year olds demanding they be allowed to run your business.
He is absolutely correct. My previous employer hired a new CEO to clean house and do whatever was needed to make the company look as profitable as possible so it could be sold. She did exactly what was asked and the company was sold in 18mons from her hire. She had done the same thing for a few companies before being hired at mine.
Interesting thing, is Yishan Wong resigned due to a disagreement with the Board. I'm assuming what you are seeing now, is what the board wanted and why Yishan would not do it. I'm further assuming that Pao was the architect of this as she was hired as a very expensive consultant to the board prior, and was tasked with this once the CEO quit. I am assuming this is all going according to plan and they are happy with the result. I like assuming. It's fun.
No, she won't step down. You are literally a worm under her feet. She will continue to be CEO, and you will continue to use reddit.com, because there is literally nothing else.
Admins/mods should have something that designates their gildings... like how they can distinguish their comments... except it should be mandatory, like a corporation being forced to indicate which candidates they donated to.
Great point, I'm currently running for Admin, part of my platform includes separating the gilding demarcations by implementing Reddit Platinum for Admins.
Vote for me and I'll make all your wildest dreams come true.
And how exactly would you, /u/Gahzoontight, get all the girls of /r/GoneWild to come over to my house for drunken naked video game Wrestlemania nacho pizza parties? I'm very curious. Explain that to me, and my vote is a vote for you.
Great question. My staff and I have been working hard day and night to develop our ideas beyond just a three-point-plan. We are ready to enact binding legislative policy that will embody a well rounded solution to the very essence of your concerns at a primordial level.
We think you'll be pleased, and my administration would be honored to continue working further with you and the rest of our constituency in the future.
If you are of strong character, share the same core values, and would like to help spread our message, we're always looking for good help with the campaign and beyond. Let me know if you are interested!
I asked yishan a while ago when he was CEO the comparison between people who gift gold on comments and people who buy gold for theirselves. He told me that the amount of gold is insignificant compared to people who buy it for their own accounts
Very kind of you but I've never used, or found any use for, the features of gold when I've been gilded. I used to give it to people who had been helpful to me but I no longer do that.
I am starting to consider it is quite ironic every time someone gets gilded while trying to get people to stop buying gold. Maybe we should call it "Give iron" instead, to make it more ironic.
People, seriously, buying Reddit gold is doing nothing but supporting the company that is making these actions. If you want to protest, stop fucking buying gold. I don't understand why people are supporting Reddit recently, there's nothing good about what they're doing.
Because most people genuinely don't care about this. The only problem they have is with the "protesters" who've done nothing but occasionally render the site unusable. So they buy gold to spite them.
I haven't been part of the "protests" or whatever is happening, but the users really should care. They're going to find out very quickly when the content creators why they should care.
You're right in theory, but I'm just not convinced we're going to see such an exodus of content creators that it will actually affect the users. Where are they going to go? Look, I'm not trying to be a dick, but the people who consistently generate popular content on Reddit simply aren't capable of stopping. Voat isn't a real alternative and I honestly don't think it will ever be.
Do you remember what happened to Digg? Like really what happened to Digg? They pissed off their users again and again and again, and yet no one left until they released a version of the site that was so bad and broken that it was effectively unusable. And even then, they only failed because the users had a stable, mature alternative - Reddit.
I just can't believe that people would legitimately be like "Wow all these anti-Pao people that want people to stop buying gold, HA bam, here's a gold!". I refuse to believe that people are that sad.
I wish but someone gilded me for this posts and it pisses me off. I responded saying "WHO THE FUCK IS THIS? I fucking hate you." Got no response. Oh well.
I wouldn't call that rumor. Just something that's possible with no proof but would make sense. Like, if I was in their position I would be having a blast gilding everyone saying not to buy reddit gold.
Hell, I'm incredibly against this whole Pao circlejerk, I think it's the most obnoxious thing to hit reddit in months, but I believe this. She's just the corporate fall guy, she's playing the role of the villain to make controversial changes and make the company hate her so that a new CEO can ride in with shining golden armor on a beautiful white stallion and play the hero, and everybody will think they've won.
This is of course assuming that the new CEO will magically undo everything terrible with the site, and right all of the wrongs that everyone is complaining about.
But that doesn't make as much money. Do you really think that another CEO will be able to turn this shipwreck around?
Or at least, if it IS the plan to have a new CEO swoop in and save the day, they're certainly making it so their work is cut out for them. How convincing is too convincing?
corporatize everything, really go full-retard with the corporate bullshit. Can her. Reddit users so happy and reddit is bigger than ever and all that bad press turns into good press 10 times over.
Frankly, this isn't a conspiracy. Pao and her predecessors have been plainly trying to set Reddit up for acquisition. This includes consolidating sites and reducing head count. Victoria was likely just released because she was unwilling to go to San Francisco. The termination of FPH was because the community had grown to the point of presenting an image problem for Reddit. These moves are to make acquisition more attractive to other corporate entities. Reddit has been running on VC for a long time. They are getting ready to pay the piper.
Since the end is somewhat apparent, but the means is fairly obfuscated, it still is conspiracy like... especially because it would be to the detriment of OG McReddit users; those here before the intense synthesis of the organic content model into the BS it is today.
Correct, she has been brought in to get reddit to where the investors want, they have a roadmap and they will sell and she will get X million for doing so and move onto the next one. This is what she wants to do.. I know people that do this, it's a good business to get into. Go into business A, restructure, streamline and get it to point B, the VC sells and they make a mint..
And if her tactics get hard core users who feel that they can shape the site off reddit and keep the people who are solely here for memes and stuff, that would probably work in the interest of a monetized reddit
People forget that with Kevin Rose and Digg he did actually manage to monetize it properly. Even though the number of people using the site went way down the amount of money made per user went way up.
Unfortunately bubble sites like Digg and Reddit are valued based on bubble speculation, not on the money they earn. Reddit is not worth anything like hundreds of millions of dollars, it will never make hundreds of millions of dollars in its lifetime.
It's a delicate balancing act of musical chairs. You don't want to be the one holding the worthless company when the bubble bursts, so you have to make steps towards monetization to keep the valuation viable. However go too hard and you kill off your userbase and people realize that its not actually possible to turn a site with no discernible business model into a money machine.
And the average redditor is vastly richer than the average human being on the planet.
How is it objective or honest to only compare yourself only to people above you? That's like saying everyone is ugly compared to models and movie stars.
If you rank everyone in the world by wealth, the average redditor has most people on earth below them and only a small number above them.
The gulf between me and a person in the 3rd world is not shit compared to gulf between me and the people of the .01%
Bringing out the 3rd world comparison is simply a shaming tactic in order to silence me, and does not negate my argument.
Edit: it's not how many are below me, it's how far those few above me are. Those below me are probably below me maximum 20k a year (yes I only make roughly 20k a year). Those above me make billions in a single year.
You're right on the border of being in the global 1%. You need to make $34,000 a year to be in the 1%. The median global salary is $1,225. You make more in one month than most people make in a year. The most basic of your possessions are fabulous luxuries to the vast majority of people on the planet.
You're saying you're not really rich because because people in the 0.1% make a lot more than you. So then can millionaires in the top 0.1% say they're not really rich because the people in the 0.01% make billions more than them?
You're richer than 98% of people on the planet and you're still saying you're poor because 2% of people are richer than you. How much richer than everyone else do you have to be before you consider yourself rich?
You're simply trying to shame me to draw attention away from the grossly fractured distribution of wealth in the world. I may make more in a month than some in a year, but I don't live in luxury. Far from it.
The TOP 1% make more in a month than I will ever make in my lifetime.
You're simply trying to shame me to draw attention away from the grossly fractured distribution of wealth in the world.
And you're still trying to draw attention away from the fact you're on the receiving end of that grossly fractured distribution of wealth by pointing to people even higher up the pyramid than you.
The TOP 1%
you're still being a nationalist. that's the top 1% of your country, a country where the median person is already in the top 1%. You're talking about the 0.01%. If your country was the only country in the world then yes the gap between you and a billionaire would be all you need to consider. But it isn't.
You're simply trying to shame me
Who said anything about being ashamed? You're actually richer than me, but you could earn 20x as much and I'd still be happy for you as long as you were making money in a respectable way.
The only reason 3rd world countries are in such poverty is because of the rich elite class that can use their money to do anything, use their money to do anything, such as ravage populations to earn a quick buck. I may make more than some (and I'm not "richer" than anyone you fuckin twat) but I don't have power to rape populations.
That's the point here:** I'm not shit. I have no power. The people who do have power have it because of their greed and the way they abuse people.** So honestly, I'm done arguing with you. You're just stirring a pot.

Yeah down vote good guy bot, trying to keep you safe. Well bot, you get an upvote from me, even though your robot brain has no compassion, and probably doesn't care anyway.
If you try to tell people in other subs that there are people about Pao that make the real decisions they act like that's unbelievable. People are so fucking stupid. I don't think Pao is a pawn, but she definitely is following orders and she isn't the real problem.
Thank you, it's like people don't know how companies work. The CEO isn't always a dictator, and they have people to answer to too. If there are evil things on the horizon, it definitely isn't Pao's personal prerogative. It's all decided already and "they" are just using business tactics. In Silicon Valley, Reddit is just another asset. All this hate toward Pao just serves as a distraction , as with everything else
I have a side theory, this thing that happened with Victoria. I may be wrong but before so there was a lot of rising tension towards site mods for shit like shadow bans and corrupt behavior. This Victoria thing was a front to make Reddit side with the mods and hate the admins etc, now the mods can abuse any power they have moreso because people are backing them.
The whole point of an unlikable interim CEO is so that you can fire their ass as soon as they complete their mission and then it looks like progress.
Pao is here to get the place cleaned up for sale or to turn up profits for investors and then get "fired" and appease her dissenters. The motive is clear, but it's not clear if reddit as we know it will here when she's done.
Additionally, the mods closed up their own subs, but this was an intended effect too. Make mods fed up so that we can replace them with censors that will obey. Can't have pesky TPP and SOPA posts threatening our corporate media masters.
She is like Bush and the next CEO will be Obama. They won't roll back any of the changes but gay marriage will be legal and we'll get a slightly improved health plan.

She might "step down" but the damage will still be done.
I see this with companies all the time when they don't want negative decisions done. Hey we should fire all the high tenure people getting top wages and hire in a new force for shit pay and no benifets.
Yeah but we don't want to look like the asshole when people Google us, so let's pay holding company ScabsRus to do the dirty work then buy it back with the new suckers.
this post should be on something like r/specuation
ive seen a lot of stuff on r/conspiracy that is just total nonsense made up becuase it sounds good. you dont have any proof or evidence. you just literally made something up because it sounds good. if this is what r/conspiracy is turning into, i dont want to come here anymore
They just gotta take their hands off the wheel, and let it coast. Just gotta avoid trying to "make it better". Just gotta avoid that compulsion to keep adjusting things, to make it better faster. To fix the problem and make it go away. Just "stop trying to fix it".
They've just gotta have a whooooooole lotta patience.
Yep. Kinda like how they jack gas prices through the roof then drop them a little when people bitch and somehow people don't notice it ended 20 cents higher than it started.
They will fire her just like Kleiner Perkins did. Now that she has lost her lawsuite and everyone has heard that she is incompetent, arrogant and self entitled, they can easily fire her for these unpopular changes.
Someone else will step up and they will look like a good choice but in the end the changes will stay and slowly creep in more and more while everyone goes back into the lull of everyday reddit.
This is word for word what went through my head last night, I thought I was crazy. I'm not generally down with the "conspiracy" crowd but this one flat out makes sense.
While going passive aggressive about it, there's nothing else to do, but to wait until someone builds another toy to fill the void.
Crying about the lost gold and karma helps only emotionally.
The same as crying for being taken for a ride and convinced to use your free time and effort for helping building multimillion dollars business and just to get "fired" at the end. Because that is it: you got fired too.
also facebook regularly engages in experiments to see what influences people and how they can be led into predictable patterns of behavior, it wouldnt surprise me in the least if this is reddits version of social engineering (with 'the button' as a test run LOL)
Excpet Alexis may have arguably had more or equal influence on the decisions, but the response against him is nowhere near the same. No-one is spamming the defaults with him getting railed by a black guy, or as hitler, or called an sjw or feminazi or some equivalent, or going insane about him like they did for pao.
People here are giving themselves a lot of credit. They think they are such special magical pumpkins they deserve a throwaway CEO to take the hit for changes.
Fact is this is what CEOs do. It's extremely naive and self-important to think reddit is so amazing they need a stunt CEO to get things done. They don't. The powers that be don't care enough about a minority shouting to set something like this up.
I don't know man. You think she would just agree to tarnish her record even further? It's obvious that she has a track record for making poor decisions. I can promise you that the Reddit shareholders don't want to see the next Digg collapse. Sometimes there are just bad CEOs, just like some of the terrible managers that I'm sure everyone has experienced at one point.
Nice idea, but judging from the implementation of these "unpopular changes" and the incompetence shown, it's exceedingly obvious that they don't even have a plan for later today, let alone far down the line. Plus, I think Pao is just that much of a power hungry class president that she'd never willingly hand this job over without going to someplace much bigger that will pay her much more.
Interesting theory, but I'm not buying it. You'd have to be several shades of crazy to put your career and reputation on the line (and potentially down the drain) to take the slack for Reddit's changes.
It that really worth it, no matter how much she's theoretically being paid?
I thought it was weird when she said all that stuff about how reddit isn't a platform for free speech, how Alexis Ohanian didn't say shit about it even though he claims to be a huge proponent of freedom of speech.
It's almost like until just the other day they did a great job of keeping him away from any criticism.
sort of thing newspapers do when they get behind campaigns which are already going to be government policy in the next term, for example laws on sex offenders or immigration. Populist crap to strengthen their position.
My original thought was that she's actively been trying to fuck stuff up in an attempt to get fired to bait another lawsuit. This theory holds a lot more possibility.
Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers brought off the executive placment firm Pao was using to shoe her in at a place they know would be her worst fucking nightmare.
Mission accomplished, baby. I hope that firm asked for at least half of what Pao demanded for a settlement.
I agree. Interim = temporary, until a suitable person is found. Generally, interim leadership positions do one of two things, keep things running smoothly until the new CEO arrives, and/or, implement something that has already been decided upon (ie: given their marching orders). An interim CEO does not make any meaningful/significant changes to direction of a company on their own. They brought her in as the bully to put an very unpopular plan into motion. Not many CEOs would take such a role and tarnish their reputation, but Pao is exactly the type of person who would do anything for the right price.
The current owners of Reddit are pandering to corporate interest to make it more profitable, what is stopping them from doing the same with government agencies?
Pao isn't going any where, you guys. According to a former employee who was also recently sacked when asked about that she replied, "You'll have to pry this position from my cold, dead hands!!!" https://i.imgur.com/cOw7LvF.jpg
Gilding Redditors who speak out against Reddit is like the SS catching a Jewish person and making them join the Nazi party.
But I mean making them a really high ranking Nazi and they arent even German, they are Russian and cant event speak German. And they arent even trying to hide their Jewish roots, they are letting it flow with a big hat, and no matter how many times he says "Shalom" they SS all stand to attend and yell Seig Heil.
Let me tell you something. They don't give a fuck what you think about the goddamn changes. No company would go through such a stupid elaborate fucking thing, just to keep a bunch of dummies with no power (you) at bay from doing nothing. Reddit is not a government, they are a company that makes money from you pricks being here conspiring your dumb shit. It would be in zero interest of them to put enough "unpopular changes" into the site to where it would deter people from coming here. There is no "winning" they are company that will do what they need to do to keep making money regardless.
An open source platform like this could very well take the place of government someday, representative government has been outdated since the telegraph was invented. How did this get an upvote anyway?
They'll turn it into another branch of Jewbook/Tw@tter, and be another way the PTB can monitor us and sell us shite at the same time. They'll continue to hunt any place where free speech is possible.
I have so many questions about this whole situation. I can buy that from the company's perspective, her doing a shitty job and then getting fired is not the worst possibility for an interim CEO. But could that be part of her objective for the job? If so, would this be viewed as successfully fulfilling her goals for the job? From the outside, it seems like this fiasco would be somewhat of a career-ender. I'm very curious to see what her next position will be.
I think that it's more likely that she has some kind of poison pill clause in her contract which makes it difficult for her to be removed for a period of time.
its not even really a conspiracy. its just the basic corporate logic. the underlying agenda comes from the corporate interest. pao is basically just an interchangeable agent of that agenda.
I don't care either way, Mr Market votes with his feet. When it gets too inhospitable on reddit, the crowd will move to a better site with free speech and reddit will go the way of Digg.

Just what is the conspiracy here? A person got fired - for what? She was an AMA mod - not a high profile whistle-blower.. How is this significant and how would 'they' (the illermenerty) benefit?
Im sure I'll hear "censorship" - what significant topics have been censored? Pictures of cats and banning bully behaviour do not constitute an oppressive campaign on free speech. So I ask again - what significant topics have been censored?
PS : It's only a crappy comment because you don't want to face facts or entertain ideas that are contrary to your beliefs.. This is why most of you will remain idiots.
Hah! That wasn't even the point, why the hell is it at the damn top? Its obviously negative. The consensus, was it was crappy my question is why are you so privileged?
This is a deflection if I've ever seen one. I've lurked during so many reddit controversies that make this sub stick out like a sore thumb and gain momentum to some greater cause of the truth. Yet all it does is add some egocentric trip to a group of people who garner more self worth in uncovering a 'truth' when all it does is aspire parts of a smell shit. Everything that happened over the last few days and anything that is 'conspiracy' within reddit that has garnished sticky post after sticky post is just shoveled shit to occupy the mind of 'sophisticated' others. This shit doesnt matter. Your free speech is not quelled here, and why the stories of being shadow banned for a specific opinion are interesting to read, they do not garner an argument of suppression of free speech. You shout in a controlled environment what that hell do you expect?!
The fact of the matter is plain and simple; it's interesting. That doesnt make it real or tangible. You want to hold on to something real? Then stop being apart of the damn problem. Exit yourself from this experiment and find something new. Every time i come here to look for relevant sources of obvious corruption; 9/10 times i see this sub as succumbing to the issues that dont matter and relishing in the popularity it gains from the "other opinion".
Hey white guys. How does it feel to know that your rights are gone and your concerns and interests come last in this country now.
Having a brown or yellow vagina and a tumblr blog can elevate you to a CEO position of a huge company. All you have to do is shriek racist, bigot, homophobe and sexist at white men and you can tear down entire corporations and force your will on millions of people!
Oh but you're a white male. Enjoy your shitty apartment, alimony, child support and false rape charges.
At least come join a support group for some laughs, eh? therightstuff.biz
You're right in theory, but I'm just not convinced we're going to see such an exodus of content creators that it will actually affect the users. Where are they going to go? And even then, they only failed because the users had a stable, mature alternative - Reddit.
You're simply trying to shame me to draw attention away from the grossly fractured distribution of wealth in the world. I may make more in a month than some in a year, but I don't live in luxury. Far from it.

6 goblackcar 2015-07-05
All of them. A senior C level executive is expected to be available to work whenever required. Most put in a lot of time, but it is wholly dependant on the executive and the board's discretion/oversight.
7 Down_With_The_Crown 2015-07-05
My dad is a CTO and executive VP for a large global company and literally is on 24/7, whether that means 3am conference calls with India or flying to Singapore tomorrow if there is a fire he needs to put out. That's why they are paid what they are paid. They are working 24/7, even when they're not.
-2 Zosimasie 2015-07-05
So are firefighters and soldiers, but they're not paid 7 figures.
3 Down_With_The_Crown 2015-07-05
No, at least for Chicago fire department my uncle works 24 on, 48 off. Not sure what shifts are for cops, but it's not even in the same discussion as C-level executives.
Also, being a soldier is a personal choice. If they wanted to work 24/7 and get paid more they could have gone into a different profession and perhaps work their way up to a c-level and make more money.

The narrative will be that she is abused by the patriarchy and some progressive board trying to score points will appoint her.
1 Year3030 2015-07-05
She'll be all "want some fries with that?"
"Didn't you used to be Reddit's CEO"
"Yeah it was a hostile work environment"
1 ercaerca 2015-07-05
2 pntless 2015-07-05
Clearly no one will hire her because she is a strong independent woman. At that point she'll just start suing every company that doesn't hire her due to obvious discrimination.
1 lozzobear 2015-07-05
There's no such thing as bad publicity. She's becoming a household name.
1 goblackcar 2015-07-05
I think Donald Trump is reconsidering that as we speak.
0 techrich 2015-07-05
For all the wrong reasons.
1 itty53 2015-07-05
You don't think that given the conspiracy posited by OP that there isn't some value to be had of her as the 'bad cop'? If it's correct, then she's done her job with flying colors, all things considered.
1 techrich 2015-07-05
It's a good point, but she was short sighted if she agreed to play that role. It's still tainted her though.
1 itty53 2015-07-05
There are dozens of names I could refer to as 'tainted' and the fact is, that's their selling point: that's even why I know their names in the first place. "Kardashian" comes to mind. So does Miley.
You fail to realize that there is a bigger market out there than just what you want or what you think others want or should want.
-1 jairzinho 2015-07-05
Good luck finding another job in tech with no redditors in the company.
1 Logan_Mac 2015-07-05
Don't forget that she's Asian, in tech that doesn't give you as many points as blacks or latinos though
1 WisdomModifier 2015-07-05
Or the fabled Blatino.
1 hjwoolwine 2015-07-05
And she'd be right, people have been saying some messed up stuff
1 Year3030 2015-07-05
The rub is that this is a delicate game played internally by Reddit and most of their employees are not in on it however Pao probably rules with an iron fist so they fear her and just yes ma'am everything (except those that are making the tricky decisions).
1 Sakkyoku-Sha 2015-07-05
Maybe she will even try to sue the Internet for discrimination.
1 Kabuthunk 2015-07-05
Except a strong, independent woman would probably stand up to her detractors, accept responsibility for her actions, apologize, and learn from her mistakes.
But then, I don't expect anything she says to be true, either.
1 putitonmyvisa 2015-07-05
This is the worst part.
0 Wb14245 2015-07-05
Well she is being harassed by a large number of the users. I feel a lot of people are acting like children over this.
4 SistaSabuda 2015-07-05
Nice try Ms Pao.
0 undeadmanana 2015-07-05
Then she's going to sue all of us for sexual harassment.
0 stillbatting1000 2015-07-05
"Strong independent woman" is feminist-speak for "I have a chip on my shoulder and something to prove because of my personal insecurities."
-17 quiksnap 2015-07-05
Dude id I saw her in person I would call her a cunt and ask her where her safe space is now.
10 No_big_whoop 2015-07-05
This is the type of comment she'll use as evidence of harassment.
-2 beatlejuicex 2015-07-05

147 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
44 Imabusyman 2015-07-05
How is it working? The numbers have been falling since she took office and are now the same as they were in December.
58 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
You have to read the chart in context. Pao took the charge in November of '14. Immediately the site jumped up by 20 positions. Between then and very late march, it jumped by another 10. You're seeing a drop off in late spring - why is that? People went outside when the weather got nice. Look at the other sites out there by visitors- exact same curve for social sites. Like it or not, by that measure (which means advertising $$) Pao has been REMARKABLY successful. Does she deserve credit? I don't know, and frankly, it doesn't matter. Investors care about results - Pao is getting them.
46 NotYourMothersDildo 2015-07-05
It is annoying how right you are. Did you notice that NSFW subreddits rarely makes the front page of /r/all any more? That change to filtering happened soon after her installation.
You used to wake up on Saturday morning to a front page of the previous night's gonewild.
Bold move trying to increase traffic by limiting nudity.

Of course it is for marketability, you're right. The limiting nudity part is funny as I work for an NSFW site that puts as much nudity online as we can.
23 emotionlotion 2015-07-05
That happened before Pao. About a year ago the admins gave mods the choice to opt out of r/all. Gonewild was one of the subs that opted out.
6 NotYourMothersDildo 2015-07-05
I'd wager there is more NSFW filtering going on than the opt out. You can't sell movies and products next to pussies and buttholes.
2 iShootDope_AmA 2015-07-05
I thought that was the easiest way to sell things.

20 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
The statement Pao is making right now, but nobody wants to hear is this: Reddit has little revenue and lots of the wrong kinds of users - you'll see ;-)
9 indwelling_fire 2015-07-05
You're not wrong... But a LOT of users are being driven away in the process. Maybe the site will make a comeback as a watered down, sanitized - but still racy for the church crowd - shadow of its former self. Good on 'em if it works, I suppose, just sad to see it go down this way.
3 thetompain 2015-07-05
Reddit without a smart, intelligent user base is worthless. She is going to turn the place into Yahoo.
1 tehgreatblade 2015-07-05
I'm pretty sure we're exactly the ones she's trying to get rid of, the anti intellectual bitch.
1 sammythemc 2015-07-05
With that attitude, who can blame her?
1 tehgreatblade 2015-07-05
Someone who is smart enough to see the evil of the game but still plays it deserves to bleed out.
Corporations are anti intellectual, and anti knowledge. The fact that even a place that used to have totally free speech is becoming just like every other social network garbage. She's throwing reddit into the dumpster for the rats to eat.
1 sammythemc 2015-07-05
Maybe it's because I was actually around for the r/jailbait fiasco, but I never really bought into this idea of reddit as a totally free speech zone. Doxing and sexually suggestive images of minors have been banned for years now.
1 tehgreatblade 2015-07-05
There's a very, very large difference between blatantly breaking child porn laws and having a discussion about how nasty fat people are.
1 sammythemc 2015-07-05
Well, at the time it was being argued that it skirted illegality by only allowing clothed pictures. Besides, as far as I know posting "/u/tehgreatblade's real name is John Smith" is perfectly legal, and again, that's been banned for years.
1 tehgreatblade 2015-07-05
I realize the site is monetized and they can ban whomever they want for any reason but I just miss the genuine discussions we used to have on here. Basically all the subs I used to trust including this one have been hijacked.
1 UnprecedentedPeas 2015-07-05
so you think you're smart and intelligent
1 necrambo 2015-07-05
I like how you're tossing around your opinion as fact.
All us plebs can do is wait and see how things play out.
4 Seakawn 2015-07-05
Business strategy and what CEO's usually do isn't a matter of opinion. If he's wrong, let's hear why.
And it's also funny you should make a comment like yours in a subreddit like this in the first place.
Of course we have to sit and wait to see exactly what happens. But I don't think MostlyAnnoying would disagree there. The "facts" he's talking about is either data or what you'd read in a textbook. But you realize he's also speculating right? Or can you not find the differences in his statements?
0 ifactor 2015-07-05
The point I'm missing is yours.. I kind of got your first comment but this isn't making any sense to me and is not relevant at all to why she was brought on as CEO.
edit: The blame that's being referred to is the blame shes receiving for things, or did you miss the 2 days of Pao Nazism on the front page after FPH was banned? And everything since, she's getting the blame. That blame exists, you can't say it doesn't. I get how she's measured as a CEO doesn't rely to her reddit ratings, but that doesn't mean she can't be a scapegoat used to keep the rest of reddit here.
2 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
1 ifactor 2015-07-05
I agree with all of that, but that still doesn't mean there's no blame for the state of affairs or that she is a scapegoat for said blame.
1 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
State of affairs? You mean the massive revolt where nobody that reddit wants to stay will leave? You mean the free publicity? These are just potholes, my friend. This is why she's here. There is no blame.
1 ifactor 2015-07-05
I agree with everything you're saying except for this. It is the definition of blame what we are seeing, I don't see how you can say there is no blame.
Blame: Blame is the act of censuring, holding responsible, making negative statements about an individual or group that their action or actions are socially or morally irresponsible, the opposite of praise
1 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
If you want to make an omelette, you have to break some eggs. Is that blame?
These things that are happening are a means to an end. When the investors get what they want fro Pao, they aren't going to "blame" her for achieving it on their behalf - they're going to PAY her. These things are unpopular - but I'm sure she's got some major incentives to do it, to make the unpopular changes. The fact that some neckbeards using adblock want to "blame" her for trying to make the business viable, and provide ROI for the investors doesn't matter.
1 ifactor 2015-07-05
I'm not talking about the investors, I realize they aren't going to "blame" her. But many redditors, the neckbeards you are speaking of, do blame her for just about everything, and it's by design. You can say that their blaming her doesn't matter, that's fine, but that's much different than saying there is no blame or it doesn't exist. When the investors do throw her out, or she quits, or however she exits those redditors that were previously blaming her will now stay and see what happens, rather than leave the second a viable alternative shows up.
1 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
Oh I see what you're saying: "Under Pao, there's been uncomfortable change for people that use the site for free that think they matter, even though they really don't as long as reddit grows and the investors see an ROI - and I feel the need to blame somebody for simply doing their job". Okay, sure, blame Pao.
1 ifactor 2015-07-05
I think you're missing me entirely here. I'm not blaming her and I agree with you mostly (I did not intend that pun). I'm just admitting that yes, there are people that are blaming her. There is a petition over 100k that want her to resign because of things lately, no I didn't sign.

7 joper90 2015-07-05

20 frankenham 2015-07-05
This is what happened at the old company I worked at. Old CEO decided to quit supposedly because word of mouth 'he didn't like what they were deciding to do with the company' ..few months later after his resignation is up we get a new CEO from Vegas, they the company implements their plans, cutting 10% of workers, cutting open hours, turning half the town against them ect, everybody learns to hate the new CEO guy and put all the blame on him. Company gets rid of him and voila, suddenly they're the good guys and the hired gun was just a patsy to implement all their shit changes.
16 ansiz 2015-07-05
This is pretty much every US company that isn't a mom & pop type shop. It's why so many companies use a management agency to help them staff C-level positions.
Where I work now the CEO is basically just a guy that poses in pictures, the Board is who makes all the decisions.
10 LordBlackmore 2015-07-05
Yep. I witnessed it at a company I used to work for. A new CEO was brought in and their job was to shed enough of the company to make it an attractive acquisition target.
The person took all the heat, accomplished the goal of getting someone to buy the company and jumped out of the plane with a spectacular golden parachute.

0 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
This is what it's about. I like that you referred to family owned businesses, too - although the pay tends to be lower, it's the only way to avoid the churn. Many of us see private equity as the good guys - folks, private equity firms are the .1% - they drive our economy, kill your jobs, suppress your wages, and laugh all the way to the bank - then they do it again 5 years later - sucking the souls out of the companies they destroy.
5 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05

7 icallmyselfmonster 2015-07-05
There has been exposé after exposé of shady activity of mods, IRC leaks etc. of weird Mod behavior. Like after a community has grown, you get a lot of 0 post mods show up and start directing things with an iron fist. They are probably the same ones asking for mod tools.
4 ForumPointsRdumb 2015-07-05
IMO Every mod should just quit and no one step up as replacement. Spend some time with their cats or something.
8 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
That would be fantastic. Of course, the mods are making empty threats by closing down subs for 2 hours. The truth is, the mods will NEVER quit - for most of them, it's the only influence they'll ever have. Instead, each sub should be given a maximum of two moderators - and each user can moderate no more than two subs. This would require some unfucking of the reddit voting tweaks that should have never happened. Reddit would be confusing for about a week - then things would be wonderful.
1 TinHatBrigadier 2015-07-05
I use a couple of different usernames depending on the topics I want to discuss; why wouldn't those mods do the same thing?
-1 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05

1 pilgrimboy 2015-07-05
I looked at Alexa the other day. They were leveling off before the crisis. I'm pretty sure that in a month the numbers will be down.
18 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
7 pilgrimboy 2015-07-05
I'm only here because Voat is down. I've unsubscribed from most major subs and enjoy the niche ones here still.

Idk that's what people said about reddit when they started on 4chan or 9gag :/
5 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
I might not fully understand your comment.....but Reddit isn't a copy of either of those (or the old Digg, for that matter) - yet Voat is a carbon copy of Reddit. For that reason alone, it will never win.
edit: damn words
0 reddbullish 2015-07-05
Yeah.
1 americanpegasus 2015-07-05
Oh wow, it's a Pao shill in the wild.
Quick kids, take a picture!
2 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
If you look at the solutions I'm advocating, you'll see I'm no Pao shill. I'm doing two things: advocating that reddit be returned to what it was meant to be; and spitting a little bit of wisdom about how a CEO is measured. I'm not a Pao fan. She's been remarkably successful as a CEO - even if actions under her direction are unpopular with many users.
2 diomed3 2015-07-05
To be a remarkably successful CEO in this greed infested capitalist world we've created you must be a remarkably shitty ass person to your fellow human beings. This is fact.
0 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
0 Asmodiar_ 2015-07-05
So you credit Reddits growth after a sitting president does an ama.... To a new ceo?

I just banned you from /r/texas because you are a two-day old anti-mod troll account and you were trolling there.
The only reason I didn't ban you instantly and started talking to you was because I didn't check your profile first. As soon as I realized you were an alt troll account, you were correctly banned accordng to our sidebar rules.
So, say whatever makes you sleep better, even if it's falsehood.
1 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
"I just banned" - you do a lot of banning chief.
You have problems.
Oh well. Heil /u/noeatnosleep
-3 noeatnosleep 2015-07-05
How do you know how much banning I do? I almost never ban anyone. I only ban spammers and outright, obvious, malicious trolls.
What problems do I have?
You keep making these statements with nothing to back them up.
You said I had a terrible effect on /r/motorcycles, and then couldn't come up with anything specific, and said you weren't attacking me specifically.
You have problems.
1 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
-5 noeatnosleep 2015-07-05
You're a 2 day account that bounces from place to place and spouts the same stuff all over reddit instead of engaging in the community in a helpful manner.
If you were an actual /r/texas user and not a 2 day old troll account that jumps from subreddit to subreddit with the same exact thing to say, you wouldn't have been banned.
And you absolutely did attack me personally. You've called me names, said 'heil noeatnosleep', and called me the worst mod on reddit.
0 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
TROLL!"
SEIG HEIL! SEIG HEIL! SEIG HEIL!
-2 noeatnosleep 2015-07-05
You were banned for being a novelty/troll account, not for what you said.
As I said in modmail, feel free to come back on a real account that engages regularly in community activities and doesn't bounce from sub to sub saying the same thing.
Also, I didn't delete anything, after I looked at your account and realized I was feeding a troll, I removed the whole conversation. The subreddit doesn't benefit from engaging or tolerating trolls.
0 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
This is not a novelty / troll account. Just because it's two days old because I don't want to my primary banned (imagine that - since you banned me) does not make it novelty - it makes you predictable. You were not feeding a troll - you were simply not controlling the conversation - so you banned
SEIG HEIL!!!!
1 noeatnosleep 2015-07-05
Showing your maturity, I see. Resorting to bold and yelling seig heil.
Keep telling me how you're not a troll.
-1 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
You've broke some reddit rules today there chief - going to put yourself in timeout? Or, does that apply to everyone but you?
You ruined Reddit.
0 noeatnosleep 2015-07-05
I haven't broken any rules.
-1 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
2 noeatnosleep 2015-07-05
No, you wouldn't be here, because if it wasn't for myself and other people like me, this website wouldn't be here.
What rules have I broken?
I can't believe I have to repeat myself again. You weren't banned for disagreeing. You were banned for posting on a troll account.
As I have said three to five times, feel free to come back to /r/Texas any time you like, as long as you are an active community member and not a one topic, 2 day old troll account.
If I banned people for disagreeing I would have banned you on the spot instead of talking to you. It just took me a while to look at your account and realize you were a troll.
0 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
SEIG HEIL! SEIG HEIL! SEIG HEIL!
/u/noeatnosleep has now just banned me from /r/shitadminssay for replying to him there, as well.
0 noeatnosleep 2015-07-05
More bolded all caps yelling. Totally not a troll. It's great. The more you talk the dumber you look.
You keep missing the point. You don't contribute in /r/Texas. That's what makes you a troll. You only came there on a two day old troll account to talk about one issue that you're jumping from sub to sub yelling about.
That's a troll.
If you were a user who frequented the subreddit, cared about the subreddit, talked or submitted content in the subreddit, you wouldn't have been banned.
Since you aren't any of those things, you're not welcome.
Simple, really.
-4 Shiftlock0 2015-07-05
Says the Redditor for 2 days who doesn't mod any subs.
2 MostlyAnnoying 2015-07-05
No, it's more like: says the alt of a 7 year redditor, who used to moderate a handful of subs, but stopped being a mod because of the way moderation evolved. When speaking out against mods, it's best to use an alt - because the underground mod network could decide to silence me across most of reddit, or even push for a hellban. It happens every day, friend. The fact that I have to use an alt to post this says volumes.

15 TwinSwords 2015-07-05
And when it's not, what will you say?
63 shodanx 2015-07-05
It's on /r/conspiracy, just being here makes the idea discredited, that's why it would make no sense to delete it.
1 stevesy17 2015-07-05
Is that right
10 KefkeWren 2015-07-05
That deleting it would only verify that it is correct, and therefore the best way to convince people to doubt it is to ignore it?
4 Noven-sides 2015-07-05
So deleting it shows they're evil, and not deleting shows they're also evil? Great options for reddit.
7 KefkeWren 2015-07-05
1 7x5x3x2x2 2015-07-05

Sheeple
1 TheDaveWSC 2015-07-05
Reddit fucked their options already. Don't act like they're any sort of victim.
"Oh, Steve killed the baby. Great. So if he turns himself in he goes to jail and if he runs he's still a dick and will go to jail when they catch him. GREAT OPTIONS FOR STEVE."
1 Noven-sides 2015-07-05
What has reddit done wrong? Enforce their rules? Act like a normal business? Choose a woman as CEO?
1 TheDaveWSC 2015-07-05
Show no respect to their userbase? Fuck over /r/IAMA? Zero communication? STILL refuse to actually apologize here instead of TIME Magazine which clearly wasn't directed toward us?
1 Noven-sides 2015-07-05
Why should they respect the userbase anymore? They overreacted to reddit enforcing rules on harassment and now they're upvoting swastika's and comparing Pao to Hitler. There's no need for apology when your userbase starts acting like 12 year olds demanding they be allowed to run your business.

He is absolutely correct. My previous employer hired a new CEO to clean house and do whatever was needed to make the company look as profitable as possible so it could be sold. It's fun.

I think the best course of action is to not talk about gold for a long time and hope people just forget.
2 NumberTech 2015-07-05
People, seriously, buying Reddit gold is doing nothing but supporting the company that is making these actions. If you want to protest, stop fucking buying gold. I don't understand why people are supporting Reddit recently, there's nothing good about what they're doing.
11 pantspants 2015-07-05
Because most people genuinely don't care about this. The only problem they have is with the "protesters" who've done nothing but occasionally render the site unusable. So they buy gold to spite them.
-1 jacls0608 2015-07-05
I haven't been part of the "protests" or whatever is happening, but the users really should care. They're going to find out very quickly when the content creators why they should care.
7 pantspants 2015-07-05

I wouldn't call that rumor. Just something that's possible with no proof but would make sense. Like, if I was in their position I would be having a blast gilding everyone saying not to buy reddit gold.

37 Gravelord-_Nito 2015-07-05
Hell, I'm incredibly against this whole Pao circlejerk, I think it's the most obnoxious thing to hit reddit in months, but I believe this. She's just the corporate fall guy, she's playing the role of the villain to make controversial changes and make the company hate her so that a new CEO can ride in with shining golden armor on a beautiful white stallion and play the hero, and everybody will think they've won.
2 pleasewashyourcrotch 2015-07-05
But what color is the dress tho?
1 Kabuthunk 2015-07-05

I can see that.
50 elementalist467 2015-07-05
Frankly, this isn't a conspiracy. Pao and her predecessors have been plainly trying to set Reddit up for acquisition. This includes consolidating sites and reducing head count. Victoria was likely just released because she was unwilling to go to San Francisco. The termination of FPH was because the community had grown to the point of presenting an image problem for Reddit. These moves are to make acquisition more attractive to other corporate entities. Reddit has been running on VC for a long time. They are getting ready to pay the piper.
5 angryRake 2015-07-05
Bingo. You're a smart person. Most of the people here would find a conspiracy at a church picnic.

2 JediMasterSteveDave 2015-07-05
Since the end is somewhat apparent, but the means is fairly obfuscated, it still is conspiracy like... especially because it would be to the detriment of OG McReddit users; those here before the intense synthesis of the organic content model into the BS it is today.

Correct, she has been brought in to get reddit to where the investors want, they have a roadmap and they will sell and she will get X million for doing so and move onto the next one. This is what she wants to do.. I know people that do this, it's a good business to get into. Go into business A, restructure, streamline and get it to point B, the VC sells and they make a mint..
11 criticalfreddyk 2015-07-05
And if her tactics get hard core users who feel that they can shape the site off reddit and keep the people who are solely here for memes and stuff, that would probably work in the interest of a monetized reddit
6 suninabox 2015-07-05
However go too hard and you kill off your userbase and people realize that its not actually possible to turn a site with no discernible business model into a money machine.

...business tactics is a really nice way to say that the rich people know how to manipulate the poor people
0 suninabox 2015-07-05
The average reddit user isn't poor.
1 Rugnardl 2015-07-05
The average anybody is poor compared to the owners of the worlds businesses and corporations. The average redditor is definitely poor.
0 suninabox 2015-07-05
And the average redditor is vastly richer than the average human being on the planet.
How is it objective or honest to only compare yourself only to people above you? That's like saying everyone is ugly compared to models and movie stars.
If you rank everyone in the world by wealth, the average redditor has most people on earth below them and only a small number above them.
3 Rugnardl 2015-07-05
The gulf between me and a person in the 3rd world is not shit compared to gulf between me and the people of the .01% Bringing out the 3rd world comparison is simply a shaming tactic in order to silence me, and does not negate my argument. Edit: it's not how many are below me, it's how far those few above me are. Those below me are probably below me maximum 20k a year (yes I only make roughly 20k a year). Those above me make billions in a single year.
-1 suninabox 2015-07-05
1 Rugnardl 2015-07-05
You're simply trying to shame me to draw attention away from the grossly fractured distribution of wealth in the world. I may make more in a month than some in a year, but I don't live in luxury. Far from it.
The TOP 1% make more in a month than I will ever make in my lifetime.
0 suninabox 2015-07-05
And you're still trying to draw attention away from the fact you're on the receiving end of that grossly fractured distribution of wealth by pointing to people even higher up the pyramid than you.
you're still being a nationalist. that's the top 1% of your country, a country where the median person is already in the top 1%. You're talking about the 0.01%. If your country was the only country in the world then yes the gap between you and a billionaire would be all you need to consider. But it isn't.
Who said anything about being ashamed? You're actually richer than me, but you could earn 20x as much and I'd still be happy for you as long as you were making money in a respectable way.
1 Rugnardl 2015-07-05
The only reason 3rd world countries are in such poverty is because of the rich elite class that can use their money to do anything, use their money to do anything, such as ravage populations to earn a quick buck. I may make more than some (and I'm not "richer" than anyone you fuckin twat) but I don't have power to rape populations. That's the point here:** I'm not shit. I have no power. The people who do have power have it because of their greed and the way they abuse people.** So honestly, I'm done arguing with you. You're just stirring a pot.
1 suninabox 2015-07-05
That happens a lot when you realize you can't reasonably defend your beliefs but have a strong feeling that they're right.
2 Rugnardl 2015-07-05
No, I have a strong feeling you're just stirring a pot to derail meaningful conversation about things that matter.

This concept that someone who does their job poorly, and has massive amounts of bad publicity for it, is unfireable is silly.
It's more likely that she is doing exactly what they want, minus the bad publicity, and is unfireable because she is doing a good job.
6 cakoutofdoo 2015-07-05
Thank you, it's like people don't know how companies work. The CEO isn't always a dictator, and they have people to answer to too. If there are evil things on the horizon, it definitely isn't Pao's personal prerogative. It's all decided already and "they" are just using business tactics. In Silicon Valley, Reddit is just another asset. All this hate toward Pao just serves as a distraction , as with everything else
8 Robobb 2015-07-05
I have a side theory, this thing that happened with Victoria. I may be wrong but before so there was a lot of rising tension towards site mods for shit like shadow bans and corrupt behavior. This Victoria thing was a front to make Reddit side with the mods and hate the admins etc, now the mods can abuse any power they have moreso because people are backing them.
8 phro 2015-07-05
The whole point of an unlikable interim CEO is so that you can fire their ass as soon as they complete their mission and then it looks like progress.
Pao is here to get the place cleaned up for sale or to turn up profits for investors and then get "fired" and appease her dissenters. The motive is clear, but it's not clear if reddit as we know it will here when she's done.
Additionally, the mods closed up their own subs, but this was an intended effect too. Make mods fed up so that we can replace them with censors that will obey. Can't have pesky TPP and SOPA posts threatening our corporate media masters.

While going passive aggressive about it, there's nothing else to do, but to wait until someone builds another toy to fill the void.

1 whey_to_go 2015-07-05
I don't know man.
1 The_Adventurist 2015-07-05
Nice idea, but judging from the implementation of these "unpopular changes" and the incompetence shown, it's exceedingly obvious that they don't even have a plan for later today, let alone far down the line. Plus, I think Pao is just that much of a power hungry class president that she'd never willingly hand this job over without going to someplace much bigger that will pay her much more.

By the time Ellen steps down Reddit will be in ruins, if it isn't, and new management continues with bullshit, users won't be stupid to not notice

She did say somewhere that they'll "have to pry this position from her cold dead hands", so I can't really see her stepping down anytime soon.

In the meantime we're all waiting for Voat to get up and running and will fully support it once we can.

Her title is interim-CEO, on her Wikipedia page fwiw.
1 d3fin3d 2015-07-05
Interesting theory, but I'm not buying it. You'd have to be several shades of crazy to put your career and reputation on the line (and potentially down the drain) to take the slack for Reddit's changes.
It that really worth it, no matter how much she's theoretically being paid?
1 forgetfularse 2015-07-05

1 LordBlackmore 2015-07-05
I'm not sure why anyone would think this is controversial.
1 ThePopeofHell 2015-07-05
I thought it was weird when she said all that stuff about how reddit isn't a platform for free speech, how Alexis Ohanian didn't say shit about it even though he claims to be a huge proponent of freedom of speech.
It's almost like until just the other day they did a great job of keeping him away from any criticism.
1 miraoister 2015-07-05
sort of thing newspapers do when they get behind campaigns which are already going to be government policy in the next term, for example laws on sex offenders or immigration. Populist crap to strengthen their position.
1 dropdeadgregg 2015-07-05
They created all the pao subreddits hmmm, or its just a corporation of course they are doing the unpopular things its what every corporation would do.
1 ernie1850 2015-07-05
So what ur saying is Ellen Pao is the Crystal Pepsi of reddit
1 Aperture_client 2015-07-05
My original thought was that she's actively been trying to fuck stuff up in an attempt to get fired to bait another lawsuit. This theory holds a lot more possibility.

I've got a better conspiracy for you:
Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers brought off the executive placment firm Pao was using to shoe her in at a place they know would be her worst fucking nightmare.
Mission accomplished, baby. I hope that firm asked for at least half of what Pao demanded for a settlement.
1 abacabbmk 2015-07-05
1 Frenchie_21 2015-07-05
To add to this idea (which I think is accurate.)
The current owners of Reddit are pandering to corporate interest to make it more profitable, what is stopping them from doing the same with government agencies?
1 Greglee124 2015-07-05
It makes sense.

1 unique616 2015-07-05

I'm saddened it took this long to point out. Isn't this a move used often in the corporate world?
1 miraoister 2015-07-05
Gilding Redditors who speak out against Reddit is like the SS catching a Jewish person and making them join the Nazi party.
But I mean making them a really high ranking Nazi and they arent even German, they are Russian and cant event speak German. And they arent even trying to hide their Jewish roots, they are letting it flow with a big hat, and no matter how many times he says "Shalom" they SS all stand to attend and yell Seig Heil.
That is what Reddit Gold is.

1 seth11111 2015-07-05
Let me tell you something. They don't give a fuck what you think about the goddamn changes. No company would go through such a stupid elaborate fucking thing, just to keep a bunch of dummies with no power (you) at bay from doing nothing. Reddit is not a government, they are a company that makes money from you pricks being here conspiring your dumb shit. It would be in zero interest of them to put enough "unpopular changes" into the site to where it would deter people from coming here. There is no "winning" they are company that will do what they need to do to keep making money regardless.
1 RandoKillrizian 2015-07-05

1 39bears 2015-07-05
I have so many questions about this whole situation. I can buy that from the company's perspective, her doing a shitty job and then getting fired is not the worst possibility for an interim CEO. But could that be part of her objective for the job? If so, would this be viewed as successfully fulfilling her goals for the job? From the outside, it seems like this fiasco would be somewhat of a career-ender. I'm very curious to see what her next position will be.
1 surfjihad 2015-07-05

1 scarlin 2015-07-05
I think that it's more likely that she has some kind of poison pill clause in her contract which makes it difficult for her to be removed for a period of time.

I think it's just a ruse to piss off and send away the kind of people that dig up government secrets and post petitions and stuff.
Reddit got way too powerful in its ability to get the people together to stop things like SOPA.
So how do you bring it down? Just stick some hatable cunt in as CEO, and tell her to start deleting and censoring things.

-2 blackrustonwhitesnow 2015-07-05
9 6F6A9O9 2015-07-05
There are far better places to get conspiracy sources than this sub. You're here for the drama just as much as anyone. Get real.
