A reddit employee spills the beans on 4chan and claims that AMA's were done for profit. A lot of people will still refuse to believe this but for many of us this confirms something we have been saying for a long time now.

This is the post that sparked this:

Reddit employee leaks info to /b/

............................................

I called this many, many months ago. It has been a part of the "How Reddit Was Destroyed" updates.

3) Once the default subreddits were controlled, drastic changes began to occur.

I remember when [5] r/IAma was open to anyone and the popularity was decided by voting. Now it is nothing more than a cheap place for celebrities to whore out their products and you need to be "approved". Someone named [6] Victoria is involved and how does that makes any sense whatsoever? Celebrities have entire teams of branding/PR/social media teams that work for them. Why do they need to be at reddit HQ and/or required to have a reddit rep? Because these AMA's are extremely organized and sponsored with money.

and it is frankly disturbing how many people harassed me for even implying such a thing was happening. For example, look what happened 2 months ago when I made a post in r/c_s_t about my AMA theory:

I also find it interesting that this "leak" has been called fake but the only proof is the word of someone who literally works at reddit.

but the only proof is the word of someone who literally works at reddit.

We don't have any proof for OP's claims either....

Exactly. And that leaves us at 0, not at "this leak is fake".

I think this should be further investigated. How? No idea, just to be sure we are not spreading misinformation through speculation.

lol, that isn't how it works

as a side note: I am Michael Jackson.

Actually Michael Jackson is dead. If you are referring to the pop singer there is tangible evidence available to prove your claim false. Anons claims still stand.

Well, I mean, they didn't really give me any reason to believe that they worked there. Everything they said was either something you could find on Google, or common speculation in the community.

Also, the speaker tells us that she's technologically ignorant. She has a fucking degree in electrical engineering from Princeton and worked in Silicon valley for over 10 years. This doesn't add up.

Now, I know that due to the nature of this subreddit, nearly any attempt to discredit and anonymous post that agrees with popular opinion will not be received well. Just try to take some time to do some research yourself. See what you find out.

Also, last thing. In the post, they talk about how they refuse to identify himself for fear of being fired, then goes into describing personal memorable experiences with the CEO. I mean, that's pretty inconsistent.

We're you the creator of r/C_S_T?

BREAKING NEWS reddit is a business

Which, as an American, immediately leads me to distrust them. That being said, what's your fucking point?

But it's also not a free market.

Of course its for profit. That goes without saying. All of this bullshit we use daily is for profit. Celebrities with PR and branding, That's not a shocking revelation

Yes, and isn't it amazing how this blatantly obvious fact-of-life has been rejected by millions of people.

And now everyone will say "Oh yeah, of course thats true" because it is now "okay" to admit it. What a sad, pathetic, species we are.

People have rose colored glasses and believe in the good of everyone and everything.. Reddit is a corporation just like the others. Reddit is valued at about $6 Billion, so i don't see how any doesn't see how they are not for profit.

The shocking revelation is that reddit is not a free market for promotion. It is a place for reddit to promote its interests.

Maybe this is all a big ruse to get us through the boring summer internet. Its like clickbait. If there is drama, we will click.

It's not surprising that a corporation would want to profit so why is this so far fetched to so many people? Speaking of ama remember when Obama did one? I have my doubts that it was really Obama and not his or team. How much do you think Obama paid to do an ama? I stopped watching ufc when I watched some fights that were complete works - same with ama and some other subreddits. I hope they do add the Facebook integration. That's a hole they are about to Digg.

Pretty obvious. A few years ago I remember you had all sorts of folks doing AMAs, and only recently did it devolve into a bunch of shitty "celebs".

AMA's were done for profit

"advertising"

This doesn't confirm anything? Some anonymous guy on the internet shouldn't be taken for fact and proof.

Sure, it makes sense, but it's just another clue - not the crime.

Call the press, company provides entertainment for profit! We're gonna blow the lid off this thing, boys.

honestly, though, with all of the fucked up shit happening in our world today it amazes me just how much attention has been focused on hating admins lately. After the whole FPH thing it's like nobody gives a fuck about anything but demonizing Pao. Granted she's kind of a bitch but the whole issue just seems so insignificant.

4chan being cited as a news source.

Because MSM is where you should get all your news, citizen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

Okay I will play; so is a 4chan thread with no proof and no corroboration from any other news source a credible source?

I don't expect an answer, you will undoubtedly ignore this.

Wow. Such prescience.

Indeed

What a sad strawman.

I point out his call to authority and you call it a strawman? Tough fucking crowd tonight.
