Cointelpros Flat Earth

16  2015-07-23 by Baptized

The more I look into the flat earth theory, the more it seems like disinfo. I have looked into the subject extensively and can completely understand why people buy into it. Flat earth will suck you in. If its true, it would be the mother of all conspiracies. But thats the point. Its designed to consume the energy behind the truth movement. It also acts as a blanket conspiracy. Once you start to question the legitimacy of certain subjects, (i.e. NASA, Global Warming, Holocaust, ect.), YouTube is there to point you in the direction of a flat earth. When actually looking into the arguments of FE, you will find it's mostly based on denial of existing evidence. Most of the theories on the subject come from YouTubers that just figued out how to use windows movie maker.

Flat Earth is a double edged sword. It corrupts veateran truthers and truns new truthers away.

If you buy into it, it will most likely divert all of your attention away from any and all other conspiracy theories. This is what happend to my open minded friend. Flat Earth has turned him into a conspiritard. And now he brings absolutly nothing to the table.

Based on evrything i've seen: Flat Earth is textbook cointelpro.

If a 'veteran' gets sucked into the flat earth, they were a moron to begin with.

Its easy to be misguided these days. That doesn't mean that everyone who bought into a lie is a moron. Especially when there are paid shills whose job is to misguide you.

If they're paid shills, then they're not veterans.

The only reason I don't dismiss flat earthers as shills is because stupid people exist.

I didn't mean that the veterans are the shills, but that they are susceptible to disinfo like anyone else.

If a shill has done his job well, you wouldn't even know it.

I didn't mean that the veterans are the shills, but that they are susceptible to disinfo like anyone else.

Neither did I.

Just I think that if someone is a veteran, that holds a degree of respectability and knowledge. Whereas anyone that believes in the flat earth is an imbecile.

So someone that's a veteran should know how to use Google and not be duped by one of the most asinine claims out there.

Ok, agreed. But calling eachother imbeciles gets us nowhere.

They should know how to use Google (or rather other search engines like duckduckgo.com) and common reason.

Also, people should just curb their paranoia a bit. I can understand being skeptical towards the gorevnment's actions, I can even understand skepticism towards NASA, the moon landing etc., but spherical earth theory has been around for a couple of thousands of years, it has been proven by the ancient Greeks, and by various, countless experiments, so falling for Flat Earth basically means that the person is an ignorant and has some degree of stupitidy.

The sole reason Flat Earth bullshit exists only to paint conspiracy theorists as fools that fall for anything, and to clump it with other more 'valid' conspiracies.

Having said that, though I will get downvoted, I also believe that the anti-vaxxers are also COINTELPRO. While I understand that some vaccines may be a hazard to health, they could even elevate the risk of getting autism (but that could also be linked to all the shit that is in our food, in the water, etc.), you cannot overstate the benefit we get from them. Plus, I've seen the same people that push Flat Earth also being advocates of the anti-vaccine movement and posting a lot of stuff with regards to this conspiracy.

IMHO one of the reasons for the anti-vaccines movement might actually be to harm the people that believe in it. By not vaccinating their children and themselves, they increase the chance of losing the offspring/getting sick and dying, thus decreasing the numbers of conspiracy theorists.

You hit the nail on the head with every point you made! It's amazing how gullible people are.

To much contradiction going on here, pro and anti-vacc.in the same paragraph, confusing stance.

i dont know how anyone could even draw into it in the first place. i see flat earth and just cringe...its beyond irrational.

You should actually look into it. If you're big into conspiracy and love the 'ah ha' moments when researching into conspiracy, please look into it.

Flat Earth is not for the newbie researcher. You will get a lot of pushback, and ridicule obviously.

I have looked into it. It's still retarded.

Looking into it makes it worse because mental illness isn't funny.

Its easy to be misguided these days.

Not really. We're in the Age of Information. It takes effort to remain stupid and ignorant.

More like Age of Disinformation. We are inundated with information but the majority of it is frivolous(at best).

/u/Rockran is a textbook conspiracy denier.

His opinion on what is and isn't legitimate conspiracy to indulge your mind with is completely null and void.

K

The only reason this shit persists is because it makes us look retarded

us

There is no "us."

Can you explain how the flat earth theory is less probable than faking sandy hook or the boston bombing?

Because the media is controll and orchestrated like a movie what you see as unfolding news is a fabricated story. Also why do these things always result in less freedom and more police state when they are rare and not a threat to the mass of societ. Chances of being killed terrorism 20000000 in one

Can you explain what rights you used to have that you no longer have?

The right of government of the people not a government of the richest campaign, the right to privacy, the fourth amendment is gone, freedom speech is now under fire especially on the Internet. It's not a Police state completely but just pay attention to what's been happening. The limitations on a presidents actions are gone etc etc

Literally none of that has happened other than rich people controlling the government (like they have since, you know, the beginning of time). You just keep saying "police state." Crime is down across the country. I don't remember the constitution being amended and the fourth amendment being taken out. You do not have "free speech" on the internet unless you are posting on government run websites. Obama has done less executive orders than EVERY ONE of his predecessors. It seems more like you already have the idea of this "police state" and want evidence to confirm it.

They need you back at top minds

Read the national authorization act, look at the treatment of. Detainees why do you feel the need to defend things that are wrong like the American government

Have you ever considered that the United States is one of the freest countries in the world and maybe you are just looking for something to be upset about?

I'm not upset I'm concerned about the future

If I was a government propaganda agent, out to make a community of people paying close attention to my government's frequently illegal actions, look stupid and deranged... I'd post stuff like that.

And man, has it ever worked.

Most of the Flat Earthers are alt accounts. They'll post in short spurts every couple days, but never at the same time. Whoever is controlling them is trying to spread out the topic that each account comments on, so there's been a lull in Flat Earth posts.

If you read the language of all the flat earth and judy wood posts lately they all have the same tone, language style, and personality. I am definitely convinced it is one or a handful of people making tons of accounts to flood this sub. They never have any interest in actual discussion

And they usually run away after promising they'll research something they can't answer right away.

The weird thing about the flat earth stuff from my perspective is that it seemed to go from being virtually unheard of to being everywhere basically overnight.

It does pique the interest, but only briefly.

The problem is it can't be modelled based on verifiable observation. At first, the sun would be in constant flux. When in its northernmost (central path by flat earth theory) it would need to maintain the same rate as in its southern much greater path. There is no explanation for this conitinual and constantly accelerating and decelerating path.

Next, since the southern path is larger, the Southern Hemisphere should have shorter days. The paths radius is longer and therefore it would illuminate less of the area around its circumference. But this isn't the case. Tierra Del Fuego has a 17:19:53 day. This is clearly impossible. There is no explanation for it. If the earth is flat and TDF has a 17:19:53 day, then the sun must be viewable from the same distance elsewhere. It isn't, if it were, night would never come to the northern hemisphere and rarely come to the Southern Hemisphere.

Anyone can confirm this. On mobile, please forgive any weirdness.

The ONLY reason people buy in to the flat earth theory, is because they are stupid.

It really is that simple.

It's more a lack of critical thinking, with a dash of derp thrown in for good measure.

Has anyone here ever done one of their experiments to prove them wrong? Like looking out into the ocean w/ a telescope to see ships miles away despite the curve of the earth? I'd be interested in trying so that I can put this theory to bed.

I feel like that's the only way to rationally dismiss it right?

Well you can put a gopro on a balloon and get pretty conclusive evidence.

Or take a flight and observe the fact you can't see too far.

None of their assertions are right to begin with.

The whole idea that a tower is visible at xxx miles is bullshit since the earth isn't a perfect sphere.

Yea I just watched a video of a camera/balloon trying to prove Flat Earth. The camera is so obviously convex, distorting the image on the edges. So dumb..

https://youtu.be/pnzUgKZ8m2k?t=89

Don't feed the flat earthworms.

It's just so fucking boring... both sides of the issue... bland as fuck

I feel like some CIA spook started this bs theory in these subs that are coming too close to the truth. Something to, as OP said, suck the energy out of the truth movement.

what 'truth' though? there is no underlying, unified 'truth movement' i'm aware of.

[deleted]

been an on and off active member of /r/conspiracy for a good 4 years now. I would hardly consider myself 'new.' Maybe new in last few months new. What's the truth movement? What's the underlying theme? I'm asking seriously.

There are quite a few users here who try there best to present accurate info for us to debate. Those few are now trying their best to rid this sub of racial divide and bs post like flat earth theories.

The truth movement is only stiffled at the moment, but not gone entirely.

Sorry for mistaking you for a facecious, common assjacket of a user. Its more common to run into some paid neh sayer than it is to cross paths with those who mean well.

I'm a fellow truth seeker like you. I started out on this subreddit years ago as well as obvious googling for answers. I realize that any large subreddit will be completely infiltrated, either by SJW's, race baiters, or cointel paid or non-paid assets disrupting any kind of discussion.

Years ago /r/conspiracy used to be awesome. It got too big, and when any subreddit gets too big, you know what happens. And btw, most of what you will see on /r/conspiracy will be shillery or planted threads.

In fact, I actually look at thumbed down comments now on this subreddit for more information.

FYI, I am a flat earther myself. Actually, I'll correct myself and say I'm definitely not a 'globe earther.'

Well I say bring all the crazy theories. Censorship of any post, no matter how wild, should be the last thing we implement into this sub.

Again, sorry for being rude. Carry on.

Hey man no problem pal! Be safe on your journey for truth!

And to you the same amigo

Hey, were you the mod that banned me on /r/theworldisflat? :( Quite an odd ban if you ask me. Hadnt posted there in three days. I don't think I was really ever rude or condescending there. The believers on the other hand...

This was more like a "silencing of the other side" move. Im gunna check on two or three other users to see if they were banned as well. If so, I'll definitely know you guys have decided to simply make that place a flat earth circle jerk, completely devoid of any useful debate and discussion.

Edit: Confirmed, you're the mod banning people. What a childish move.

Here's a question I would ask of FE people: Why do liquids take a spherical shape when shown in space station videos from the ISS or any other orbiting device?

I want to believe!

shills , trolls, cointel pro, paid disinfo government agents. this is sad when people cant have an alternative opinion anymore and are just shills

Of course people can have alternative opinions. Thats what this sub is about. But when that opinion is inherently false and based off of the denial of existing evidence, it does damage. Thats why we have discussion, to find out the truth. And yes I know there no evidence clearly suggesting that the people who push this work for the government. It just seem like a discrediting tactic they would use. You can't blame me for entertaining the idea.

so i guess the majority decides whats inherently false and just calls everyone stupid who disagrees, guess if everyone knows its inherently false its not allowed to be an alternative opinion. still sad

When their only response to "this isn't true, you are ignoring actual evidence" is to start name calling and never listing a single thing in their comments that they believe to be undeniable truth in support of their argument, they are not worth listening to. End of story. If they want to have a real conversation and not get butthurt just because somebody doesn't agree with them then they are free to do so...hasn't happened yet

only name calling i see going on is " idiot, stupid, and shill ". if you don't believe what i believe you're a fucking loon is all i get from this subreddit, and thats sad is all I'm saying. gotta hand it to the mods atleast even bringing it up is allowed here , anywhere else shit would be gone before anyone saw it. cuz its such a stupid idea anyway

The "flat earth" myth was concocted by enlightenment thinkers to disparage the church. It was used particularly to mock church views on evolution and was subsequently taken on as cultish basis for satirical societies aimed at showing the methods used by pseudo scientific ideologues.

Somehow, the myth has prevailed that hundreds of years ago, scientists didn't know the earth was round. It's used to showthat science is constantly advancing and that conservatives get left behind. You are taught in school that the violent colonist columbus was a brave forward thinker who PROVED the earth was round. It's all an outgrowth of the same "pro science" myth. It's like someone in 100 years arguing that the flying spaghetti monster is real.

Yum!

This is what happend to my open minded friend. Flat Earth has turned him into a conspiritard

His mind was so open, his brain fell out! Is he still in high school?

How is this even a discussion? Clearly is not true

I find incredible insight into the psychology of a group of supposed "free thinkers" when they are so decidedly closed minded about a particular subject.

  1. This sub doesn't have a reputation that anyone cares about. Stop acting like it needs protecting.

  2. Majority of the conspiracies that you do believe in aren't accepted by mainstream thinking anyway, so why does it really matter? To the uninitiated 911Truth is just as crazy as Flat Earth.

  3. Have you even actually explored the topic? Or is this your kneejerk reaction? How you answer that question says worlds about how realistically you deal with your own cognitive dissonance.

You mean some of the people claiming to believe this stuff actually believe this stuff? That's hard for me to believe. I'd thought it was ridiculous to the point where you didn't need to point out that you realize it's fictional. That once you realize that it's really an elaborate thought-exercise you simply join in as a "believer" to toy around with different ideas about how such could work, and to troll people who hear about Flat Earth Theory and say, "OMG, how could anyone believe this?!"

Do you think your friend would be above pulling your leg like that? Is he good at deadpan? What does he think of the Flying Spaghetti Monster/Pastafarianism?

[deleted]

Don't forget the trolls. ;) I think your friend is trolling you, dude.

There is no reason not to claim to believe in a Flat Earth. It's possible someone, somewhere might fall for it, but if they do, so what? It's not like you're telling people to mix bleach with ammonia.

It's something one can claim with seemingly the utmost sincerity and not feel the need to give a wink and nod to the truth. Say you were "just kidding"? Why bother? So what if people think you believe something absolutely ridiculous? You know the Earth is round, they know the Earth is round. How long can you keep up the charade? Forever.

Oh, sorry. What I meant to say was: Your friend is neither a shill nor stupid. There's a whole world of evidence if you only open your eyes. If you dig deep enough you'll come to find that this "round Earth" business is built upon lie after lie for generations. Even if you disagree as to whether the Earth is flat, it's clear enough that it's certainly not spherical.

Yum!

Funnily enough; that is how the rest of the world thinks about 99% of the bullshit in this sub.

My favorite one is the lizard people theory. I feel its the same thing your saying.

What links this to cointelpro in your mind? Where are the fallacies in the flat earth thinking? You seem to think flat earth is poisoning the well - can you demonstrate this at all?

Feel free to explain TDF's longest day.

so i guess the majority decides whats inherently false and just calls everyone stupid who disagrees, guess if everyone knows its inherently false its not allowed to be an alternative opinion. still sad
