That's strange my email shows up in the search on the first site. Yet I'm not married nor have I ever used the site. Wait upon searching my gmail it turns out I have been getting spam from them for sometime.
so why would they generate false info? i don't understand. why isn't ashley madison saying it's fake? can you message them on twitter about this with all of your proof?
It could be fake data because someone has a score to settle with AM and paid off a fake hacker group to fabricate data and make people never want to use the site. If this isn't the case, I can only imagine at least someone has a score to settle with someone.
If I was a powerful agency, or say, a government whose members appeared on a compromising list of names released to the public, I'd release intentionally falsified simulacra of that list until no-one could tell what was real and what was BS.
My thought was that they could put the names of some political big wigs in there and post some nonsense about them. If there is fake data in there then why couldn't they fake that? They could knock people out of the race or at least make them look bad.
The ones shared on 8chan are real. And I do assume they are pulling them out of the hack. Ofc that those @bankofamerica and etc do check out, i can't actually confirm they aren't faulty in some other way. I am not pulling them out of the hack.
just checked some and yes, that person with that email does work at bank of america.
Just meant the emails going public are real. Legitimacy of the postings can be questioned.
But lets just say, they are putting all their autism on this shit there.
*Edit : Yeah... following on 8chan. I do think this is real. They seem to be able to tell if one paid with credit card and link to FB profile. And I don't think these autists are bothering to make up that much stuff.
"Thing is, I never would have thought political figures and CEOS were stupid enough to use their own emails. And yet here we are." - They are excited
But apparently anyone can put any email on AM. Several Obamas @whitehouse have been found after all.
Those who used creditcard... Well they can be confirmed I guess. There are some nice finds public now. Like celebrity marriage councilor and some CEOs.
I wonder if the hackers anonymized parts of the data before releasing it? There's been discussions about how the hackers wanted to punish AM for offering the 'delete' feature but then not actually doing it... if they anonymized parts of the data, they wouldn't be punishing the customers, just showing AM to be engaging in fraud.
They require you to pay to delete your account. So they release the big warning that it might happen, get lots of money from people deleting their accounts and profit
I checked my own email as a control group, since I know I've never signed up for that site, and sure enough, it wasn't on the list.
Then I checked the email of someone who I very much suspected would sign up for a site like that, and yup, their email was listed as compromised. So....yay for intuition...?
Of all the Office of Personnel Management info that was hacked. Thank god I'm on that list /s. It would be easy to produce millions of fraudulent data sources. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. /s?
What it is, is unsanitized data. Do you think you can really trust anonymous internet vigilantes to do QA on their data inputs?
The Ashley Madison hack is every email that some other person used to set up an AM account.
Sure, there are probably some bona fide idiots who get swept up in the net.
But at the same time, this thing is a black-mailer's holiday? Why? BECAUSE THERE WAS A WINDOW FOR IMPACT TEAM TO ENTER ANY EMAIL THEY FELT LIKE.
That's the key. One member of Impact Team is an IT guy with a grudge? Guess who's suddenly got an AM account- the spouses of everybody he doesn't like.
This isn't like a wikileaks dump, where there's the potential to cross reference against logs and so forth. If I had time and access and window of opportunity, I could have set up to ensure that the King of Spain was an AM gay sub looking for bareback action. Or more specifically, any government employee or spokesperson that was ever listed as a contact on a government or courthouse website. That's a lot of people.
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but you kind of have to. The credit card information has to match up with name, house number and billing zip code in order to process. Right?

Don't you think people would have created Ashley Madison accounts with bullshit data so they don't get caught. They just want to creep the pics.
2 NonsenseAndVerve 2015-08-19
Isn't it also true that they've been sued before for having a huge number of fake profiles to boost their numbers?
Edit: Yup, this is nothing we didn't know already.

Does Ashley Madison operate in NYC or Kansas City?

I know, do they allow users in NYC or Kansas City?

But you can't view the fucking pics until you sign up for a paid account! I hear.

Well you have to create an account to find that out, no?

Maybe they got a honey pot file instead of the real one?

Well the e-mail addresses they are posting are real so.
Well fake or not. I think not. Some people are going to get burned. Amazing how many use their work e-mails.

Check the second comment on this post: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/08/was-the-ashley-madison-database-leaked/
Guy found two sets of data, downloaded both. One was full of fake data, one was real. Not sure how you might verify you got the 'real' set.
Some speculation this might be an attempt at smoke screen - AM dumps fake data to conflate with the real data.

ETA: AM confirmed at least some of the data is real. http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/security/ashley-madison-website-owner-confirms-some-leaked-data-authentic-n412496

I assumed, even if it is real, that it is just part of the PC push that is sweeping the internet.

I dunno where but I read that it's not necessary. Too bad the card info will doxx them regardless.
