My new AT&T U-verse cable bill may contain code that made it go to my spam folder, right after my 12 month low introductory offer ended, perhaps hoping I wouldn't notice the $104 increase.

Unless you blindly pay your bills, you'd notice the increased amount due when it comes time to pay. What would they stand to gain by sending it to your spam box?

Lots of people turn on auto-pay. I admit this conspiracy is a long shot but I don't know why it went to spam when previous ones didn't.

I really wish I had enough money to turn on auto-pay and never even have to look at the amount being billed.

This. When I worked for T-Mobile I can't tell you how many people a day would call outraged about their bill being higher than expected. I'd take a look at their past bill history and explain its been at this price for the last 4 months. "Well I dont open my bills"............
