Seriously. This is ridiculous.

How do we let admins know this stuff is going on? Reddit is becoming useless because so many mods are just censoring based on the candidate they like and dislike.

Please help. I honestly dont know what to do here.

(yes R politic and r inthenews are good but of course they are hidden from 90% of reddit readers who have no idea what they see is being so censored in the main subreddits.)

This is the method in which Reddit has chosen to monetize itself. Apparently, paying for social media manipulation is part of Hill dawgs campaign strategy. It is what it is and probably wont be changing ahead of 2016. Its gonna be a very..... unique... election I guess.

Check out voat.co

I wonder if you are correct and reddit has accepted money to promote or demote certain things (other than their ads)

I have never seen a pledge from reddit saying they DON'T do it.

Perhaps we should request that pledge?

Brilliant!

Wonder if he got paid for that one too.

Not saying these things do not happen, but wasn't that thread ruled out as fake? Maybe I'm mistaking it for another one. Either way, we know this shit is legit happening here and all over the web.

edit: a word.

What he said was the truth though it's rather easy to spot.

To put it simply companies have fake reviews, you think a political campaign won't do the same thing?

I completely agree and I know for a fact it's happening. I was just pointing out that, that specific thread was found out to be faked by the OP (ie, he was lying). But, it brought to light the very real world of online manipulation.

Please provide a credible source that proves the OP in that thread was found to be a liar.

That's what the admins say so its probably true.

Is there a plug-in / add-on that people can use to detect shills scripted comments? People would select comments that gets checked against identical / similar comments on other popular comments / forums?

Damn, I hate archive.is. The admin decided to ban the service in Finland because of some tinfoil hat episode he had.

Dude next time you see a Bernie Sanders post check the OP's post history.

9 times out of ten for the past 3-4 months they post the same article to 4-5 subreddits multiple times a day.

So a member will post 3-5 different news posts and each post will be posted to multi reddits.

I started seeing this a few months ago.

It's kind of ridiculous.

Pledges mean nothing this day in age.

"Day and age" (sorry)

Alright you got me.

Never forget that a reddit moderator is an unpaid and u contracted post. Subreddits and content can be controlled as much as those mods want. I don't think there is stopping a moderator from taking money from a political campaign in exchange for favorable modding.

Happened in one sub that I know of. Makeup addiction I believe.

Then one of the assistance subreddits the mod had multiple accounts and was scamming people. She was cought when they asked for a loan in /r/borrow

Money to promote and demote ideas, hell yes.

Just like we can trust Trump to follow through with his pledge, you're kidding yourself if companies like Reddit or Google (don't be evil) actually follow through on their pledges. They stand to gain massively.

Top post of /v/all has two upvotes. Half all is /v/fatpeoplehate and there's a post from /v/niggers. The rest are reposts from reddit.

Quality.

You can block fph if you don't like it. And the 2 upvote thing is a blatant lie.

No it's not. It was true last night and it's true now.

http://imgur.com/6KRALWu

And trust me, my personal voat is heavily filtered just like my reddit is heavily filtered. I was talking about the site over all.

If you have it filtered how would you have known the amount of fat hate posts that were on the front page? Also you need to change it to top not hot. Having a smaller userbase isn't that bad, we have a lot less shills. Our current top post has over 300 upvotes and is about the TPP, it is from our regular news section and doesn't get forced down to our conspiracy sub like it is on here. Notice that the ones under that 2 upvote thing have more upvotes? the top one is currently randomized from smaller subs to help them get more users as voat grows. The top post when you made your first post was actually this post https://voat.co/v/news/comments/481037 clearly more than 2 upvotes.

Incognito mode -> all

okay that has to do with the conversation how? Edit: you are still missing what I said and not hitting top. Since there is a a smaller user base it doesn't take much for smaller subs to hit the "hot" portion of the front page. Your only complaints are there are to few people, and there are people that have different opinions as you. I think you will enjoy reddit much more.

My site will be done soon. It will be a lot better. Skimur.com

edit: it has the same sorting/hot logic as Reddit does.

But will it have a mobile app?

It will have a stable/public API with oauth. I do think that at some point, I will be creating an official application WindowsPhone/Android/iOS (Xamarin), but first step for our devs is to create a usable/fast (distributed computing!) website. The site is using Bootstrap and is designed mobile-first. I hope that once alpha release, some developers get interested making applications/bots with the API.

edit: Come over to our Gitter room if you want to discuss plans/features. We are actively looking to pair up with some user's of Reddit, particularly some mods. I'm trying my best to not do this in a vacuum.

Asking the important questions for us that carry out personal tracking and recording device everywhere we go.

Just tried registering, given crappy password requirements. So that was fun while it lasted.

/r/politics mod here hitching on the top comment because I think it jumps to conclusions way too quickly.

The jury already seems to be out. Generally, I'd expect /r/conspiracy to check out the evidence for themselves, and compare the submissions to the actual rules rather than jumping on a bandwagon based on a partial truth.

The relatively new moderator who removed this seems to have left the wrong flair as far as I can tell:

This article is out of date for /r/politics. It's from July 1st, and we require submissions to link to content published within the last 45 days.

That line has to be drawn somewhere, and an absolutely immense volume of articles, and lots of new information about Hillary's emails have come to light since that article. As most news articles, it presents itself as current and news, so people who don't very carefully check publication dates often miss the historical context and think links to old pieces take into account all the developments that have happened afterwards.

Today is self-post Saturday in /r/politics, so you're free to contextualize older material in the current political landscape in your own text posts where you set the agenda yourself entirely.

/r/news' "out of date" rule is even stricter, I guess their article just got caught by their anti-political filter first.

Respect.

Sorry, but while I understand your viewpoint... "Politics" is not confined to the last 45 days.

Did you know that the boundaries of Iraq were created more than 45 days ago? In fact, many people would argue that Iraq should have actually been 3 different countries divided among the people rather than the boundaries decided by the British that we see today.

Your argument of "45 days" is fool-hearted. To understand where we are today, in political terms, takes a much deeper understanding and longer view than your "45 day rule" allows for.

Another "for instance".... if someone were to argue that the "national security state" came into full effect in 1963, then you could censor that article based on your "45 day" rule and call it "not recent politics"... however the effects of that occurrence are in full force today.

Your limitations are self-serving.

I don't know man. I posted something about Hilary on /r/politics and it was automatically downvoted before the the page even finished loading.

Are you serious?

"Oh, the mod who did this was new and provided the wrong excuse for removing this. Actually, here's our standard bullshit excuse for removing things like this. It's not like we don't have a dozen other bullshit excuses in cases where this one doesn't apply, nor is it like we have any kind of bias when applying these rules. I'd guess that the other populist sub is controlled in the same way."

Flaming. Hot. Pile. Bullllshit.

Lol your rage is adorable.

Excuses are like assholes. Everyone has one and they all stink. Let the users decide, that is the entire idea of reddit.
You mods need to get lives.

Oh yes /r/politics has been completely taken over by astroturfers for Hillary. All negative articles stay at zero for most of their existence, and are immediately brigaded and posted in by the same exact individuals. They all have the same basic attacks, logical fallacies, and they are completely predictable in terms of when and where they will post. They are seriously banking on the idea that Republicans have cried wolf too many times, which is absolutely true for that insane bunch, but now every genuine criticism is answered with the same response: "BENGHAZI BENGHAZI", like they are performing an exorcism. And they all have the same exact response to calling them out when a couple users have spammed an entire thread with their lies and misinformation: "Oh so everyone who disagrees is paid? Huh? huh?".

The largest irony is that they ALL try to diffuse competition and criticism by saying that reddit is in a bubble and doesn't affect reality. Yet it's worth it for the NSA to astroturf and manipulate the bubbles in online websites including and especially reddit? Worth it for Hillary and Trump to hire PR companies or however the hell it works? Hypocrites.

At the very least it seems their influence doesn't spread past /r/politics. The same articles in /r/news and /r/worldnews seem to have comment sections from an alternate universe, and all the same astroturfers and their reasoning gets downvoted to the bottom where it belongs.

Scumbags the lot of them. Sold their dignity and their moral compasses so they can work to manipulate the electorate with lies, manipulation and misinformation, in order to control the outcome of an election of the most powerful and globally influential nation on Earth. Thus ensuring that the oligarchy controls for another 8 years. Scumbags.

Sometimes I feel like giving up on my fight against the paid shills and astroturf on reddit. Like it's really for nothing and I'm just screaming at the wind. I see the shills say it, that this sub is a joke and the 9/11 truth movement is dead and we're all just wasting our time. But then I remember that somebody paid them to say that, that they were handed cold hard cash to convince me of this. I remember that the fight for truth means something. That for every shill I distrsct, for everyone that I catch, that its one less down vote on a thread about the wars. That every distraction I make is less time for them to talk about how great Hillary and Israel is, and more time futily attempting to silence me never realizing that the obsevers, those who never post but read alot, see how ridiculous amd broken their arguments. They see my posts, "what is this crazy guy talking about?" they click on the shilling account and they see how transparent it is. Then the get curious, what's this guys agenda, why does he have such a hardon for fighting people in this sub? Then they read the articles, they go outside amd observe things, they start paying just that little extra attention to the TV, reading between the lines, seeing things, waking up, slowly, oh so slowly, but they do.

And so yet I fight

Keep up the good fight.

Unfortunately voat.co made the very poor decision to have moderators as well.

I am not going to spend a lot of time an effort for an alternative that has the same fundmental structural flaw that inevitably leads to censorship by individuals. If you have a vote up and vote down system by users you dont need a moderation team. There was never a problem on reddit before moderators. User voting handled the problems.

I keep hearing about voat, is it worthwhile?

If it merely needs a chance to grow, I'd be happy to be there with the way things are going downhill here.

Barack Obama will be the last president of the United States.

Clearly you know something the rest of us don't. Please share!

War is coming faster that Americans realize.

Any reason why you say this? My roommate is on the same Obama is the last president train.

It's mostly a premonition based on all the things that have been happening.

However I will say that if the administration begins to engage in torture or refuse to prosecute those who do then they have lost all legitimacy and have no right to claim to be the government of the United States.

Begins?

Well, if they do it once and the perpetrators get prosecuted that is a healthy society. If the president refuses to stop it, the country is destroyed.

Dude...that already occurred.

Thanks for the insight buddy.

Divide and conquer.

Fuck the rulers' game.

Don't fool yourself. The admins are obviously part of the blatant corruption of reddit's content.

Money talks and Bullshit walks.

I've seen way more Bernie Sanders shit than Hillary shit on /r/politics

It pays to keep people's attention away from the general election candidate as long as possible, lest they actually form and develop opinions about the substance of that candidate. The GOP does this much better than the Dems do, but in this cycle Bernie is providing nice media fodder to keep people from getting into any depth with Hillary.

Bernie is clearly vote manipulating on Reddit. Clearly!

That's because people are genuinely moved by what Bernie is doing. I believe he can change things for the better. What you're talking about is the result of genuine grassroots support, something Hilary doesn't have. That's what makes posts in her favor more suspicious.

I agree, I didn't mean to imply that Bernie funded some PR company to spin a positive campaign online, or pay reddit to get his content on the front page.

All those grassroots supporters are clearly working for Hillary...

Hillary's campaign seems so fucking half assed anyway, like she already knows she's going to get in and doesn't have to try. I bet you she will be the democratic candidate. Then the repubs will have Jeb or someone else that can be controlled easily.

Fuck it all.

Tell enough dummies about Bernie and maybe it won't end up as dystopian as you suggest. I don't think the people who say he doesn't have a chance understand the influence of word of mouth.

Idk why you are getting downvotes.. why is this sub so anti Bernie?

Do y'all know what he stands for? Taking money out of politics!

Yes... of course Israel's candidate will totally come "save us all".

The only person who will save you is yourself... there is no politician coming to help you.

The only problem with this is it would require you to actually do something rather than spout empty platitudes. But you are too lazy to do that.. just like so many others.

Then he should have no problem with term limits for the House and Senate. As a lifer, I think he would have major issues with this, but I feel term limits are one of the few ways to stop this shit.

Term-limits are one type of reform, but they are not they only type of reform and are not endorsed by everyone. His life time of service for the American people and not the corporate-financial ruling class are evidence that long terms do not ensure corruption.

Removing the influence of money from politics is definitely a method of reducing corruption.

Your solution has a constantly rotating legislature made up of naive and inexperienced people creating laws, while still having powerful lobbyists telling them what to do. It's very possible these inexperienced polticians will be even more influenced by the lobbying structure than the current crop.

I don't believe our founding fathers ever intended for someone's ass to be parked in the House or Senate for 40 years. If we have rotating legislature, and keep laws simple, and prosecute those who are bribed and not voting the way their constituents put them in office for, we shouldn't have the problems that we have. Laws should have been passed years ago to keep paid lobbyists away from our lawmakers.

I get your point. But it's also an extreme idea. It's not going to be acknowldged as a legitamate proposal in congress. The foxes are gaurding the hen house and it's hard to convince those foxes to fire themselves.

Campaign and lobbying reform is an easier proposition because it relies on the influencers not the influenced. It even gives politicians the abilty to hold themselves up as reformers of the system while still maintainting their position.

Sadly you could probably initiate the largest campaign ever to remove incumbents from office and they'd stay right where they are. People trust their personal politicians. Politicians are very good at making people like them.

Obviously realistic doesn't mean better. But it does mean more likely to happen. And recent US history has shown that baby steps are about the best we can manage. We really do love our bread and circuses.

Here's a better question. Why on all of the recent post of conspiracy people are pushing beanie sanders so hard in the comments? It's almost like they thought he would appeal to this audience. I'm not calling conspiracy because it's natural for people to prop up their candidate, I get it. But they always get down voted so hard. Bernie sanders is hillary is jeb, and Donald Trump is something far worse.

Because this sub is mostly conservative and paranoid about socialism being a tool of the elites. Even though Bernie's brand is entirely about a bottom up grassroots socialism that is the antithesis of oligarchy.

Hey, Um, I see a flaw in what you did.

Just post the article, do not include your wall of text commentary in the comments. You posted both articles, the same way, with the exact same body of text posted in the comments. The mods are going to see this as your opinion, your "editorializing" on the subject, and will see more chance for removal.

If you didn't have those comments I'd be with you 100%, but i can see that, politics for example, would have seen it as editorializing.

There are many subreddits to the obvious censorship in reddit. between /r/undelete , /r/longtail , /r/politic

come to /r/conspiracy if you want news but even then there are shitty people going against their own interests to discredit this subreddit.

Found this in some responses to me

https://np.reddit.com/r/InternetPR

Nice post op

Niiiiiicceee

You realize the admins are the shills, right?

I think reddit users should demand a statement from reddit that they do not accept mony to secretly promote or demote links or issues (I am not talking about labeled advertisements)

I doubt they are getting paid.

Reddit admins have been sucking Hillary's cock for years.

They'd shill for Hillary for free.

They'd shill for Hillary for free.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I mostly lurk reddit now. I've given up posting to the main subs at least. for exactly the same reason op.

Why would i even want to contribute to those subs? they are completely irrelevant to me now. I get my news, etc from the web.

I felt hurt for a long time but i learned to not give a fuck and now i feel much better about it. for me reddit started to die when the main subs were slowly compromised starting around 2013 or so. I believe that's when we started seeing the same mods in most of the defaults showing up. Besides I'm hangin with the goats now, where we're free to say what we see fit. So none of this matters.

To be totally honest i should say that i couldn't post links to most of the main subs now anyway because I'm shadowbanned from most of them. last week i was banned from r/offmychest too, because I posted a comment. just one comment to r/srssucks, one comment in a completely different sub got me banned from offmychest. a year ago i would have been upset over it but it doesn't matter to me anymore. I used to be proud of reddit, was quite vocal about it too. now I don't talk about it.

R/politic

And r/inthenews

Are good replacements with far fewer viewers but far more impact.

25,000 smart people seeing a story is sometimes better than 3,000,000 average interneters.

As far as I can tell, this is just a case of the wrong flair being left.

That article's from July 1st, so it's out of date in /r/politics as it isn't from the last 45 days.

Cheers, thanks.

Surely this reasonable explanation will be upvoted to the top of the thread . . .

Hah! Good one!

Just come to voat. Reddit is a safe space for financial profit.

Voat shills really love to hang around the conspiracy subreddit

Sorry, not shilling for voat. It's just that everywhere I look on reddit these days is censorship and corporate advertising masked as content. If there's any personal gain in it for me, it would only be to get more people to add quality content over there.

It's OK. I was joking anyways

How many people are on voat these days?

Here's my experience on the matter, and the reaction I got from this sub.

https://redd.it/3hcdym

So far my reception has been better.

Probably because your post wasn't removed for personal attacks on other users.

I would not link to that post, you do not come out looking good!

Yeah he looks like a dick... Almost to the point that I think he might be trolling...

The only reason I don't come out looking good is because I was slammed by a large group of people early on.

/r/Politics has the potential to be awesome, with over 3M people. If only it wasn't just a blatant left wing propaganda sub.

Reddit was best when it was all one sub with millions of users. https://np.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/top/?sort=top&t=all

All users got exposed to facts and ideas that their self chosen news sources never exposed them to.

It was not left wing or right wing. EVERYONE found out they had been duped.

(it was why the giant media empire Advance Publications bought reddit and subdivided it to stop that knowledge cross propagation.)

Reddit is just like any other propaganda channel, you would be foolish to think otherwise.

serious question: what difference do reddit mods being shills make? reddit isn't going to influence the vote very heavily, and even if it did what candidate could change the political dystopia of Us politics? even if a chemtrail-believin, 911-truthin, bona fide conspiracy theorist got elected, what could they do against the political machinery: the lobbyists, the interest groups, the senate comittees, the congressional hearings, the three letter agencies, the four letter agencies, the devil worshippers and the televangelists praying for the apocalypse to happen?

i know it's important that our online spaces remain free of political bias where possible, and at least don't censor free speech. this is important. but why is it particularly important that it's Hillary's people shilling this particular forum, when it would be the same if it were Jeb Bush's or Donald Trump's or even whichever of the Paul dynasty of damp squibs is running for president this time? Whoever gets elected, it'll be the same paymasters, giving the same orders, to the same limp-wristed puppet president. Do you think there is any chance that the shadowy forces that can send tens of thousands of troops to war, test chemical and biological weapons on civilians and orchestrated multi-platform disinformation campains would allow anyone but a shill into power?

so my further question is, are these shills (which seem unnecessary) or are they zealots, fanatics? and what does this mean in terms of investing energy in fighting them?

Never give up. The point of putting energy in to this is to open people's eyes. If enough people realize what's going on it will start a chain reaction of awareness. There is one thing we will always have on them and that's numbers. They put so much energy into dividing the populace on every issue because they are scared of numbers. Why not try? Fuck them. Admitting defeat is letting them win.

Basically, politics don't belong on the Internet. Or at work.

Or in relationships.

Or anywhere.

Who needs government?

...

Reddit HIRES shills, why would they clean them out?

Side question:

Do we know for sure that wikipedia fired the shills? Or was it a cover for a complete takeover? (i.e., maybe they fired all the NON-shills)

I guess we'll see what direction the articles go.

Way past time reddit cleaned up imho ++

If reddit is so awful, why do you guys use it?

Becoming useless?

Real talk, theyre tired of the Bernie spam/brigading.

its going to happen anywhere. i go in and out of chatango and there are people in there that will follow you around with constant nonsense if they dont like your post. reddit unfortunatley i think has lost the measure of control they once did. just repost it and report it. it can actually help from time to time.

A bizarre insinuation considering the anti hillary circle jerk in both of those subreddits

What? Reddit is bought and paid for by the powers that be? Ludicrous...

Reddit is a strong progressive platform. It will always go in that direction of trying to paint things towards the left, gays rights, etc.

Money can buy you anything. Even lies

None of this matters. Hillary is fucked by her own hand. She will never recover from this politically. You want to know who is the driver behind it. Obama, that's who.

I was wondering why I didn't see any threads about Clinton's recent controversies... I should have known

Its been HORRIBLE.

Just a quick refresher course 'lest we forget' what has happened to many "friends" of the Clintons.

The fact Trump and Clinton are candidates should show the shit is rigged anyway. Why even bother arguing over it. It's a sham, a joke.

One word:

Voat

'nuff said

P.S. This until Voat sells out and the cycle repeats.

I read the article.

If I were a mod, I would've deleted it because I wouldn't tolerate this level of shitposting on my subreddit, and even I think most mods of larger subreddits are awful. That article is completely worthless and void of any real useful or interesting information. I don't think there's any conversation beyond idiotic circle jerking that could arise out of discussing Hillary Clinton's ability to use a fax machine.

Just my 2 cents.

Political censorship??? On the internet??? Say it ain't so...

It's mostly a premonition based on all the things that have been happening.

However I will say that if the administration begins to engage in torture or refuse to prosecute those who do then they have lost all legitimacy and have no right to claim to be the government of the United States.

All those grassroots supporters are clearly working for Hillary...

I agree, I didn't mean to imply that Bernie funded some PR company to spin a positive campaign online, or pay reddit to get his content on the front page.
