So /r/philosophy has begun its happening. A few stats first.

Subscribers 4,126,622 with 110 people active...

So a default sub with hardly any active users, sounds about right...

Let's face it reddit, you aren't philosophers and /philosophy shouldn't be a default sub. Philosophers aren't afraid of competing ideas like objectivism, they enjoy that stimulation of mental exploration.

In case you haven't caught onto what I'm talking about, /r/philosophy has mods removing Ayn Rand posts because their opinion is that its not philosophy. In my opinion which may or may not be true the real motive behind such removals is that objectivism tends to herd the sheep away from collectivism and thus the political nature of these competing philosophies come into account.

They don't trust you to be intelligent enough to reject bad philosophy on your own, or maybe they are afraid that you WILL reject bad philosophy! Maybe they are afraid that their own preferred philosophy is losing ground and what better way to curb its decline than to remove its competitors from public view!

Did I stutter?

Look there are plenty of conspiracy theories I think are ridiculous and that I don't enjoy, but you won't catch me removing them because of my opinion on them. As a mod here my job is to preserve this place for any and all conspiracy theories to be discussed.

Maybe that's why we have 500-1000 people on average talking here while we only have 330,000 subs. In comparison to the 4,126,622 subscribers in /philosophy that can barely muster 100 active users.

Edit: credit to /u/facereplacer3 for bringing this to my attention.

It's the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain an idea without accepting it.

Like how Rand entertained the idea of people on social assistance being parasites and then accepted Medicare when she was dying of lung cancer?

Yep.

This is why I don't understand the hatred towards flat earth people...at the very least it's an entertaining thought experiment.

Great link, who doesn't love some Admiral Richard E. Byrd?

I lean more towards the expanding earth model.

Yup, I'd totally be a flat-earther if there weren't expanding earth, hollow earth, geocentrism and plasma cosmology.

I think this is all a simulation and there is no earth.

those are mark sargent's flat earth clue videos and they have no scientific evidences in them, his videos are the least informative on the matter..

Posting nonsense pushes good posts down /new and out of sight

"Good" is subjective. As is "nonsense".

Not when it comes to flat earth stuff.

Hollow earth, flat earth, mars as Eden... these are all perfectly valid topics here regardless of contemporary science's view.

Santa Claus? Bigfoot? Hogwarts?

They okay too?

Hogwarts never claimed to be anything but fiction. So no.

But there are actual theories surrounding saint Nicholas and bigfoot.

We get trolled with flat earth posts and circlejerked over it from meta crews though. Same with Bigfoot.

Are you forced to believed in bigfoot or flat earth by virtue of membership here?

I certainly don't and I'm a mod here.

You aren't, I still view them and the comments when I have the time for entertainment. Still get trolled with creative writing exercises from time to time.

Yes. I enjoy the mental exercise in hashing out why someone would be led to believe those things. Alternatively, I enjoy the mental exercise of determining why someone or some group is pushing those theories.

I believe flat-earth is nonsense, but I am fascinated by the arguments put forth in its defense. Delve deeper my friend. Really think about where that stuff is coming from and why. I understand no one these days wants to spend more than a few seconds considering anything. For example, I just read a study that claimed that many people who Google things almost immediately forget the information they searched for once they've found it. Weird stuff.

Surprise! It's Rockran telling us what is and isn't acceptable...

That's the whole point of a discussion board with a vote system - to have a say in what content gets seen.

I agree, which is why it bothers me when mods ban a topic that is relevant to a sub. If truth be known they are probably annoyed with the popularity of the subject and that the votes don't go in the direction they hoped.

Slippery slope. Who decides what is "nonsense" and what is not?

We all do.

Although I'm pleased that I don't recall a flat earth post hitting the front page.

Thank goodness your opinion isn't the end all be all of knowledge.

"It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it."

-Patrick Henry

I now agree with this.

wow , look at you , You can copy / paste.

Next time, Quote the Author.

There. You must be content now.

I think Ayn Rand discussion should be allowed just so I can watch it be torn to shreds.

A valid PoV.

Thing is that this used to happen every single time she popped up and you would basically get the whole ancap and libertarian horde crying MUH OBJECTIVISM. It gets old really really really fast.

Consider that many many pedantic 18 year old objectivist will think they are worthwhile, go to r/philosophy, post, get fucking owned, think he didn't get fucking owned, repeat nonsense for endless threads. Once a day. It's really shitty.

Plus there is like the whole rest of Reddit for randian circlejerk.

YES, please.

In case you haven't caught onto what I'm talking about, /r/philosophy has mods removing Ayn Rand posts because their opinion is that its not philosophy

Because it isn't.

Einstein was just a patent clerk, Ayn Rand was just a novelist and Simone de Beauvoir was just sucking the cock of Jean-Paul Sartre, the caviar eating communist.

Philosophy is the original science. The study of everything. /r/philosophy is, like most default reddit, a cesspool of competing agenda, more or less coopted for consumeristic pressure.

Max Stirner was a philosopher. Ayn Rand was not.

Who created the philosophy of objectivism?

Referring to objectivism as a philosophy is like labelling belching a form of art.

You have heard of Yoko Ono?

I don't think she is much of an artist but that doesn't make her not an artist.

That's kind of the point I'm making here. It doesn't matter what you "think", philosophy is philosophy, even bad philosophy.

But not everything is philosophy, would be the response here. Some shit is just self-help bullshit on stilts.

Thank you for this.

As a mod here my job is to preserve this place for any and all conspiracy theories to be discussed.

That's fine for you. Other subs are entitled to use more rigorous screening without being insulted. Your mod God is not the only mod God, it's a pluralistic world.

MOD TRAINING PROGRAM.

Well said. Thank you.

you people really are slow on the uptake about this whole 'reddit mod/admin' thing.

the people who are attracted to such activities are cunts, assholes and general fucking shiteating faggots. i wouldnt piss on one of them if they were on fire.

the kinds of people that gravitate toward these kinds of 'jobs' are half-wit narcissists with not much else to do during their days, purely because they have alienated so many people in real life. they are failures. they wield the tiny little bit of internet authority they have just like they wield their flaccid, impotent cocks...like weak cucks. fuck them.

the sooner you guys come to terms with these facts, the less their keyboard assholery will bother you.

Did you get your feelings hurt by a mod at some point? You seem a bit sensitive. It's okay you can talk to me about it, show me where the bad mod touched you on this doll.

LOL, again, well said.

I don't understand why the mods there are so fearful of Ayn Rand when her concepts have basically become reality in this country. Monopolies control everything around us.

All the reddit defaults are controlled and push the Zionist agenda, from every facet possible. Doesn't everyone get this? Haven't you all seen it by now?

You're trying too hard.

At least wait for someone else to raise the subject, before trotting out "It's the JewsZionists."

What will your associates think when they seeing you blurting it out, like some sort of amateur?

Anyone who's gone far enough down the rabbit-hole can see this.

Says the guy plastering the entry of the rabbit hole with "da joos" warning signs.

So you approve of international Jewry's actions? Do you pray for White Genocide to succeed?

How do you infer that?

I do believe there's more than a fine line between "YAAAAY! ZION! Kill all the goyim! Torture them, enslave them, rape their women! For the g-d we don't remember the name of and a messiah we crucified!" and "Let's blame all the shit (down to the moderation of an internet site) on the devilish masterplan of an alien tribe."

bu......bu......bu......boring.....

Ignorance is bliss, amirite? Who the fuck cares about knowledge anyway?

I mean, if you don't give a shit about this stuff, it looks boring.

Look at the front of /r/conspiracy. I feel like to a layman, it's all boring.

Yup, I'd totally be a flat-earther if there weren't expanding earth, hollow earth, geocentrism and plasma cosmology.
