I regret that I had once cared about karma points on this site and had a time where I would post stupid comments to receive the most upvotes as possible, and try to figure out what kind of content or comment would garner the most upvotes. Now, I believe it doesn't matter anymore. What matters most is the important information that needs to be seen by the masses.

Kinda. Almost everyone involved in developing Tor was (or is) funded by the US Government (the Navy and DARPA primarily), but they are trying to create some distance of them. No system is 100% secure, but you can always try to use I2P and Freenet as well.
