Facebook did something like that to me a while back.
I liked a facebook parody page and that page was taken down, but as soon as it was taken down, the page that was being parodied had received all the likes (100k+).
A little fishy.
If somebody retweeted one of her tweets onto your timeline its pretty easy to accidentally follow her when scrolling down because of the new follow button at the end of tweets.

Facebook and Twitter will move your 'like' or 'follow' to a new page if that page has filed a copyright claim against whatever you liked.
If you liked a Clinton parody account and their campaign filed a copyright claim, all those followers get moved to the real account.
