I think fundamentally people have no free will, their immediate culture/upbringing puts them fairly efficiently onto predictable paths and guardrails that serve in place of a larger, over-arching, personally controllable freewill. I suspect Omar may really have gone off the deepend once his ex-wife separated herself from him; similarly, it's frequently been my suspicion that many of these mass killers go off to mass murder strangers precisely so they can avoid killing family members--oftentimes an originary hate or grievance against the family is at the psychopathic root of the impersonal hate, which is only later and subconsciously pretextually colored by ideology and sectarianism.

Perhaps people will be conditioned to accept a higher baseline of corruption and cirminality within the established political order since the rule of law, civil order, seems to have failed.

There's a difference between domestic terrorism events and ones in foreign countries. What happens when a terrorist attack happens in the the US from scary Muslims the populous goes, "We all need more fucking guns and ammo/this is why I carry even without a permit/we need more access to conceal carry/open carry demonstrations citing terrorism and that the cops can't help" instead of the media's obedient gun violence hate crime rhetoric. When you have a white kids with social issues kill black people the politicians and media feed on white guilt to try to pass restrictive gun laws. What's interesting is no matter the poll more people are pro guns for civilians than not. That should tell you that politicians that try to restrict guns are clearly doing it not for the country but for a other reason. Not to get too nutty if you look at countries with restrictive gun laws it's either done right before a police state take over or the citizens are super obedient and have much more constructive personal liberties. Canada and the UK both have many many limits on the freedom of speech and the UK has mass government spying that isn't even Constitutionally questionable like the US's. Another thing to consider, Regan and H W Bush (senior) both restricted guns severely in the US, Republicans restricted gun and one is the darling of the current Republican party.

Edit: forgot to point out when terrorism happens in France even Obama calls for more spying and renewed attacks on terrorist camps. San Bernardino everyone said we should keep helping Muslim refugees and such. Some peoppe I've talked to think the government wants to let in questionable but dumb radicals so eventually there's enough attacks in the US to take all the guns away from everyone. I don't think so myself. I think they ignore mental health so they can first paint all gun owners as killers after more disenfranchised white people shoot up "random" places justifying the taking of everyone guns and halting of sales. Then you introduce mental health programs, either to tranquilize the population from caring about anything to institutionalizing so called trouble makers. But that's a long game.
