I read a book about a woman who lived in a a 12X12 cabin in NC (I think the book was called 12X12) and she purposely made less than 10K a year, in order to avoid having her money taxed and used for war. She was mostly self-sufficient with lots of edible plants and fresh water on her property. That's not possible for most people, but it's possible.

What other options do most people have? Refuse to pay you go to prison. Living off the grid can work but how many people can hack it as a bushman? Moving to another country is another option, but that cuts you off from all friends and family and puts you in a foreign environment where you are probably unemployed and know nobody.
