All gas stations out of gas in town south of Asheville, NC

It's starting to look like the 70s oil crisis up in here. This is Hendersonville, NC. All gas stations roped off or bags over the pump handles. No gas for anyone.
Now this was a minor inconvenience for myself as I was able to make it home.
But I stopped into 5 gas stations, and noticed people panicking, on cellphones, some cars marooned at the pump. Out-of-town plates, their travel plans absolutely ruined.
I wasn't in a position to help. I felt terrible for them.
There was an asian lady with glasses in a VW with NY plates who was practically in tears. It gave me a terrible feeling both for her and for all the others that were milling around desperate. I was hoping that maybe the triangle gas station or marathon would be open as those are clearly masonry affiliated local chains (ie: would by privilege get the reup of gas from trucks first) but no, even they were affected.

Is the shortage in your area related to the pipeline that is leaking oil?
Those poor folks. Hopefully they were able to find some fuel somewhere.

I think the pipeline is leaking actual gasoline, not oil.

Oh. Right. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm one of those desperate for gas people, know of any locations outside of south Asheville with gas? This is scary... How fast people start hording and make the problem worse

Problem is in our centralized energy supplies.

I saw this really cool graph once that showed what would happen if gas was not available and trucking ceased. It showed day one to 2 weeks I think and after 2 weeks it was like the apocalypse and mayhem. And we know it would be.

Let alone food issues. With not knowing how long a shortage would last folks will get strange.

welp, time to get some cans and bike up into the Flatirrons:P

Petrodollar gets deleted from wikipedia, they state the united states economic collapse will occur on september 27th, 201, this is shaping up to be scary as fhk.

Interesting that the Petrodollar wiki now redirects to Petrodollar recycling.
Here is the original entry for "Petrodollar recycling":

I read on a forum that people are reporting they're low in California as well
3 kingcubfan 2016-09-20
I'm in Cali and so far no problems here. It would be interesting to see. Luckily I am in a small town and have a bike. It would be a bitch for work though since I have to use my vehicle.

Jesus, I'm supposed to move to SLO in 3 weeks. I'm not ready to deal with any gas shortages.

Yesterday I went to two gas stations in Northern California and both were out of 87, I didn't think much of it at the time, but it was pretty strange.

Yeah, I heard middle Tennessee had been out of gas for 3 days and in East Tennessee some of our stations get their fuel from the gulf, the other half from that pipeline. So half of our stations were sold out, mainly due to people hording.
1 kingcubfan 2016-09-20
Why can't they just truck in the gas? Too much consumption and not enough trucks? Supply too far away? Geez, system too fragile.
3 anti_h3ro 2016-09-20
Yup. When people heard the pipeline had a leak, everyone in that community started filling up their vehicles and spare gas reservoirs. It was projected by TEMA(Tennessee Emergency Management Association) that if everyone filled up like normal, that there would be no shortage. It's just when people make a run on gas like they do on a bank, demand outweighs supply and you get a temporary market shortage/outage. I know a person who works at Pilot Oil and they said supply lines and distribution should be solid and fixed within a weeks time. But other firms, who knows. It's all about how resilient the company's supply chain is in the end.

And this right here is why gas stations are out of gas. No one is listening to the recommendations of consuming gas at their regular pace and instead are filling up every car and gas can they have.

Fine in North Georgia for now.
1 emilskoda 2016-09-20
North Fulton County is still OK
1 mitchb6 2016-09-20
im in cobb county and several gas stations near me are out and im hearing so are alot of the gas stations in atlanta.
1 chunk_le_funk 2016-09-20
Forsyth County seems to be fine for now, but I plan on working from home Thursday and Friday.
1 LongTermCapitalMgmt 2016-09-20
Problem solved: this story will kill the growing "pipeline bad" media fuckup, even though that pipe moves oil, not petrol.
1 pissflap 2016-09-20
shortages in atlanta, too. multiple stations w/ no gas in north fulton.
1 they_are_out_there 2016-09-20
Easy, call AAA, they will bring 5 gallons of gas to stranded travelers. Drive as far away as possible and refuel elsewhere. It's a gamble but might work...

Its more than a gamble... Driving far from home on the last bit of gas in the tank hoping to find a station with gas when theres a shortage all throughout the state (and the entire south) is plain dumb.

Just checked Hendersonville and Asheville. The gas is available and gas prices are around $2.10, time now. Since you're there, can you share a photo from your phone?
4 ginzing 2016-09-20
How did you "check"? Gas stations may still be listed on google but they are out of gas all throughout the area, do a news search. Every station out I drove past and called in the vicinity.

I just used an app called gas buddy. I use it when I travel to find the cheapest gas in my area but you can put in any location you want. It's always been dead on.
1 ginzing 2016-09-20
Yeah im aware of gas buddy but it was dead wrong in this case. People posted gas stations that maybe had gas at the time they were there, but every station that got gas was selling out within the hour - gas truck deliveries were few and far between. Sunday night there were literally no stations pumping. having less than ten miles left in the tank and nowhere to refuel, and no idea when there would be anywhere to refuel is sobering. Definitely made me prepare better for the future.
