I think so... there could be something they know about the space climate that we don't. Solar flares can act as an EMP if they're a direct hit and powerful enough to get through our magnetic 'shield', but the scale would have to be significant. I really would love to know the reasoning behind this!

I'll keep checking in this thread through out the day for others' ideas, thanks for bringing this topic up! It's something worth paying attention to most definitely.

Rings a bell. I remeber reading somewhere about a solar flare in the early 1900 that took out some of the few powergrids active then and that a similar event would cause major havoc if it occured today

I read that too! It totally would be nuts if it happened currently, it's a good idea to learn survival techniques and teach your kids (if you have them) them too. You never know when nature won't support our technology-based infrastructures anymore.

It does seem they're planning to go to war (I really hope they don't!). I'm not sure about ET's, but if they were legit running the country it would be wise to be prepared so people don't panic too much. Hysteria could spread and cause loads of problems (unnecessary deaths and violence).
