I did a course recently on open source intelligence gathering and let me tell you it really opened my eyes to how dangerous facebook is. I always figured it wasn't a good fit for me being a privacy conscious sort of person but holy shit I was blown away by the staggering amount of data you can find out about a person using
it.
Things you wouldn't even consider. time zones, work schedules, routines, shopping habits, family, friends, their phone numbers, thier email addresses, their physical addresses, their geolocations, photo ids, all sorts of mad shit.
This is all out there for anyone who cares to take the time to look.
That's just the stuff that someone with a little knowhow can get.
Now imagine what facebook knows about you. The websites you visit. The times you visit them. If you are left of right handed. The text that you write and then delete. The type of stories that interest you and those that you don't. Your emotional state and the state you show on your profile. It's not just the information you think you give them like clicking on adds as so forth but your entire behavioural profile can be pieced together and cross referenced from hundreds of different indicators. Data correlation and analysis is really fucking scary. So if you use facebook assume they know pretty much everything about you.
I absolutely believe you because strange things keep happening for me. I keep trying to post/share pro Trump information, and they never post 80% of the time. When I post anything negative about Hillary for example wikileak links they don't post either.
Former schoolmate and fb friend of mine goes to a gay bar, hooks up with an anonymous one night stand (in person, not a grindr hookup), dude leaves my friend's apartment in the wee hours of the morning, names intentionally never exchanged...
Friend gets up the next morning and finds a "friend suggestion" for the one night stand which, of course, reveals the dude's identity. Apparently, fb had data on both of their phones being in the same place at the same time, on the same home network for long enough to merit a "Do you know (dude-you-screwed-last-night)?" prompt.
Do you use the messenger app? I deleted that too. I don't think Instagram does it because all the ads I see there are for candy crush and stupid shit that I never do or talk about
