EVERYTHING is fake on TV
66 2016-11-06 by fundamentalRead
I was just explaining to my five-year-old daughter about TV and how it's all pretend after she got scared while watching a crime drama. I said it's a all just a bunch of people sitting around thinking how to make the people watching feel a certain way - since it was a drama vs. a comedy etc... We then acted out a scene and posted it to YouTube so she could see the results and see for herself the process.
It then occurred to me that if more of us would take part in the filmmaking process maybe we would look more skeptically at what is presented to us on the brainwashing/idiot box.
EVERYTHING you see on TV is scripted and not genuine. Remember that! I scripted my two minute video with my five-year-old to prove a sinple point to her. Don't think for a second that TPTB won't spend whatever it takes to script whatever and create a false reality for you to feel a certain way that suits their agenda. And they're very, very good at it.

She is, believe me, the sooner the better.

I disagree. Let children be children. There is plenty of time for them when they get older to understand what a crazy cruel and confusing place this world can be...

Look at the world my friend, wolf's all over, unfortunately, what you are saying is no longer viable, children are getting murdered, raped, brainwashed and dumbed down. Plus, the best year's in life are when you are grown, but the powers that be have everything upside down. The sooner they know the better so when they get to adults they truly succeed. What you are saying is meant to keep people down, to be slaves of the system. Believe me, it is true.

The wolf has always been all over.

And yet most haven't learned. You go to be a lamb dressed as a wolf sharp as a serpent, but gentle like a dove.

I would have went with They Live but told her it's the truth.

Beautiful little story, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you're informing her in a responsible manner.
Remember though, being aware that TV brainwashes doesn't make you immune to it. The only real solution is turning it off.

We cut the cord a year after she was born.

This, amongst all the madness around us, is the kind of small stuff that cheers me up.

Good news: I had another one after her that has never known TV.

Joy! It's a fine line, I must add (from experience), for kids tend to seek out that which they're not allowed. Or at least I did. And the problem isn't small doses of TV, it's that seeing something so awesome while not being allowed it can create an exaggerated ideal. That's why I think it's great that you're also teaching her why TV is fucked. Don't quote me on that! Cheers.

We stream on demand, just don't have traditional tv that is presented to you like networks and such. If they want to watch Netflix or something that's fine, but the lack of the 24 hour news cycle and constant commercials is what we were after.

What?
So..Your 5 year old was watching TV on a TV with a cut chord?
I think you both need something more than a break from TV, primarily,a psych eval.

Not sure if you know what "cut the cord" means. It means canceling cable. I still have internet access and a screen. I'll be more explicit next time so there's no misunderstanding.

Then wouldn't she still be exposed to television programs?
Just because you change the medium you watch on, doesn't change it's ability to brainwash. (which isn't as evil as 'brainwash' makes it sound, it's more constant suggestions, product placement, etc)

True to an extent, but it's by our choosing.

Ah, thank you for raising the next generation right. I remember when the old timers used to tell those that were too young to remember a day without television "don't believe everything you see on television."
Yea...we need to bring that back

There's a reason why it's called programming.

Great post, I just started getting into making short films, and had thoughts along the same lines as yours. I want to film real life situations, but even there I have to script certain things to make it look better or more convincing on film.
That's not to say film can't capture moments of unfiltered authenticity. Those are the best moments!
A small correction, if I may: it's TPTSB - The Powers That Shouldn't Be.

Tv muddies the line between real and not real. My kids understand that TV is fake, the people, the shows, the situations, all of it. Then my daughter said, "What about the news, is that real?". I explained the news is the most unreal of them all. We have to be able to tell the difference. Dreams give us the opportunity to test real vs unreal and to see things that indeed feel real but are not.

If only more people would raise their children to question the "truth" behind what they perceive as reality. Props OP.

Global Warming and Color Revolutions being the greatest example of offenders for this.

All famous people are [false idols and gurus.](mileswmathis.com/guru.pdf) Even the conspiracy theorists or "brave" men like Assange or Snowden. Over at PieceOfMind, they are finding one celebrity after another are actually twins, or in some cases even more. The degree of deceit is astounding.

You should read the script to Metal Gear Solid 2 sometime or watch a video version. Or maybe even just play it.
