I haven't looked at defaults in a long while but I remember posts with 2000 upvotes and <100 comments while some brand name was prominently featured was a daily occurrence.

The problem is I don't trust any of the numbers (re: votes) that reddit reports besides traffic (and even that could be fudged of course).

The usernames, sure. But as /u/magnora7 is great at bringing up (but not lately), all of the changes that destroyed reddit make plenty of this analysis unproductive.

Of course the votes have since turned to crap, but they are still very much decided based on some algorithm and there are methods of detecting unusual behavior. The idea of a tool is not so much a "fake/not-fake" guarantee but a way to test an already suspicious post.

Like how about the hillary post that was on all with 50% upvoted? Posts there never make it to the top. So something like that is clearly suspicious.

My thought is this, what does it hurt to look into it? If we look into it and come up with nothing, then great, we cleared that end. But why is it that we cannot look at multiple things at once?
