But seriously. I know you're being called fake in this thread, but I've seen nothing to automatically make me think you're not legit. I don't really know the questions to ask, but any info you find out you can share, keep updating either on this thread or a new one. It's pretty interesting to me.
Of course. I'm not taking this thread and going out and protesting or stocking an underground bunker because of it. It's just interesting seeing a bunch of people speculate with the knowledge they have of the planes and all.
If you're fake, I don't really care. Still interesting, I'm entertained. If you're for real, I'm sure more will come out later to shed some light on what's going on with F15s. Then I can oh yeahhh I remember hearing about that.
It's like in chess: First, you strategically position your pieces and when the timing is right you strike. They're using this signal to syncronize their efforts and in 5 hours the countdown will be over.
Or this: (Trump to Commander Vogel at MacDill Air Force Base today)
"Also, Commander Vogel and everyone serving at MacDill Air Force Base. Quite a place. And we're going to be loading it up with beautiful new planes and beautiful new equipment. You have been lacking a little equipment. We are going to load it up. You are going to get a lot of equipment. Believe me."
Dude, you better zip it, you may think people are all like me and you and don't even know or care about what exactly someone says but there are a few who can track this shit down and Identify the part, company, process, machine, and therefore you. And it won't be worth any damn internet points to you if they gain that knowledge. It sure as shit won't be a raise.
yes, the F-15 is very much still in use. And yes, it very much appears we're gearing up, but it's no different than any pre-wartime arms race. It's just scary is what it is. Now would be a good time for you to ask for a raise btw, there's going to be a lot of long Sundays ahead
Maybe it's not you creating the distraction. The government could have sent these orders out to all the part production companies, not intending to actually do anything with them. They might figure it would create enough of a stir throughout the blue collar US, distracting us while they're sweeping the little boy diddlers under the rug.
I think it was cause of discontinuation of the F36. Idiots spent a TRILLION dollars on a plane that wasn't even as efficient as a plane we built in the 1980s.
Probably just normal acquisitions. We still fly F-15Es out of several bases (they are a strike fighter after all), so I wouldn't be surprised if the pentagon is ordering more parts to keep them flying. If its an engine related part, its probably because they flew a bunch of sorties and wore out the engines. Urgency is likely that they delayed ordering the parts, either because of budget or because they thought they had the parts, so idk. The Air Force is usually good about that kind of stuff.
I know we are retiring a lot of B-1Bs soon, so they might be renovating some F-15s so that readiness isn't affected.
Worth noting that, while working at JPL, we ordered a shit ton of fish hooks. We weren't going fishing for space whales or something, we were making grabbers for asteroids. We cut off the back half and used the front ~15% of the hook by embedding it in a gel. Usually there is a mundane reason for strange government orders.
If you are actually more interested in the grabber thing, you can look up the animal science behind it. Van der Waals forces, makes it easy to stick to surfaces and what not. Like Geckos, but not safe for skin.
Do you remember the ARM project awhile ago? Asteroid Redirect Mission, with the idea being to save earth from impending doom by moving an asteroid's path slightly so it misses earth by millions of kilometers. The grabber was an extension of that. If they decided to redirect the asteroid into, say, lunar orbit, they could send geologists up to examine it. Wealths of knowledge and minerals just sitting on a rock in space, it'd be worth getting to their prize to see what's there. And since its in Lunar orbit, the asteroid can de-orbit safely and hit nothing but lunar dust.
One of the examining methods is coring, where they take a drill to extract a cylindrical cross section of the asteroid. Now, on earth, this works fine because gravity and air resistance keep us in place while using several thousand RPM power tools. But in space, none of that is there, so an astronaut using a regular power drill would go spinning around while the drill bit just stays there. You can probably see how this might be an issue for the astronaut.
The solution was to mount a grabber on the end of the coring drill, so that the drill itself was fixed to the asteroid, and the astronaut using it didn't go flying about. The prototype was pretty neato, could pick up random rocks, stick to boulders, and could hold a Human's weight hanging off it. The whole thing works because of Van der Waals forces, which were critical for understanding how to make it stick to walls, and asteroids.
Really I saw a lot of stuff there that was pretty awesome, but I'm also an aerospace fanboy so I'm biased on that :p
Briefly, did some summer work as an intern working on some robotics stuff. Mostly RoboSimian, but also general help with other stuff around the office. And fixing the 3D printers when they jammed up :p
Got to see a lot of neat stuff though. Curiosity testing grounds, the clean room, and the many different projects like sample return. Overall, totally recommend internships with NASA and JPL if you can. It was a big step up from FIRST robotics, but I loved every second of it.
They are getting a massive increase in sensor tech and computing power. A whole host of new capabilities really. Further they are expanding from 8 weapons carried to 16.
No surprise you're seeing a sudden rush order for a structural part as these upgrades likely bring additional weight. It looks like the upgrades are directed at China specifically but nothing that immediate as they aren't expected to be completed until 2022.
I'm familiar with F-15s and might be able to work with you to solve this. General maintenance wouldn't justify an order like this unless it's part of some upgrade to the airframe. However, I'm pretty sure you would know if this is an upgrade or a traditional part.
My guess is that a batch of F-15s are being prepared for sale to a foreign country or are being transitioned to the Guard or Reserves. This is occurring quite a bit as F-15s are slowly transitioned out and replaced with F-22s. However, the urgency of this work order and having you go in on a Sunday makes me think I could be wrong. Have you been working with this company for more than five years? Also, feel free to PM me if you'd rather discuss details there
Hmm, then this likely isn't anything related to the Guard or Reserves, but it could still be part of a sale to a foreign country. Is this part that you manufacture related to the engines and startup (like the AMAD or JFS) or something related to hydraulics? That would be my guess because they are the components that break most often. If it's some other part, then I really have no idea why there would be a large order like this
Okay, I might have an answer. Structural parts are very rarely replaced, and there's usually only one instance where something like this would be replaced in bulk as unscheduled maintenance. They must've discovered some sort of defect either in this part or a connected component. Any jets affected by this would be grounded until the part(s) could be replaced, which might explain the urgency of the order
then wouldn't they be replacing that part in all of the planes? wiki claims that currently very(!) roughly ~200 F-15 (plus the same for F-15E) are in active duty in the us.
I also just noticed these are what we call AOG (aircraft on ground/line down) that doesn't necessarily mean they're on ground though, it does mean that ALL jobs take a backseat to this one.
An unreasonable amount number wise?
Close person just returned from Arabian Sea (NAVY, carrier). Says their are rumors about going back out early Spring this year, which was unexpected.
I am a former F-15 avionics specialist. Are these parts for the F-15E model or F-15C model? That would be a big clue as to where these parts are headed.
I'm not privy to that information, all I know is what's on my work order. Boeing F-15 is all it says. I'm not sure what the differences are but this kind of part could be universal amongst the different craft, again, I have no idea.
You said it's a structural part? Is it flight control related? Weapons delivery? Nuclear delivery? It's probably nothing to worry about. Could have had a defective part and they need to do an emergency grounding and fix said part just to be safe. Especially if it's flight control related.
My username is just something a friend called me sometimes, yes I know, I removed the post due to legitimate concerns from multiple people anything left is ok as far as I'm concerned
The F-35 has ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffucked everything up with other jet fighter programs in terms of having to extend the lives of programs which were supposed to be put out of service long ago. I would also suspect Israel or Saudi Arabia may have put in orders for parts...possibly the US decided to extend the life of some of our own, too?
I know we are in the process of modifying every F-15 in our air force. Without knowing what part it is there is no way of knowing if that's related.
Source: I recently left the air force after working them for 9 years.
Iran has F14s and they just regained the ability to buy stuff from the west.... I'm guessing these parts are different though?
Not sure. It could just be that they realized they were critically low on some spare parts so they ordered up a bunch of them. Or an ally put in an order from them.
It would be hard to connect them to anything conspiracy wise.
I'd be careful with how much info you give btw. I'm sure someone could figure out who you are if they really wanted to.
Is this like some sort of honeypot? If so it's pretty bad.
Secondly, the F-15 is pretty old tech. Most developed nations could probably produce the parts involved. Only part I'm aware of that's actually hard for certain countries to make is the turbofan, and I doubt that's the part you are referring to.
The F15 is our mainstay air superiority fighter in the US, so yeppers, we still fly them. And the F-15E Strike Eagle is a very capable fighter-bomber (ironic, considering the original Eagle was designed with 'not a pound for air-to-ground'). Several other countries fly derivatives of the F-15. Saudi Arabia just received arguably the most advanced Eagles ever built, the F-15SA. In fact, they only just received the first ones I believe, with more to come. The Koreans fly the F-15K, and Singapore flies some F-15SGs. The Israelis fly the F-15I...
However, I see that the Qatar Air Force will be receiving 72 F-15QAs, as of a November 2016 deal. Here is the press release.
Also, take the part itself into account. Does this part wear out a lot over time? How critical is it to combat? (as opposed to replacing parts for normal wear to keep the jets safe to fly, which this does not sound like due to the rush).
My bet would be that you are on to something, and that these parts are destined for F-15s that will be flown by countries in the Middle East. You have the Israelis with theirs, the Saudis receiving the first of many advanced F-15SAs (84 F15SAs, and 68 upgrade packages for their F-15S planes), and a very recent announcement that Qatar will be receiving 72 F-15QAs. Check the quantity of part you are being asked to build perhaps, that could help you.

The only parts in common between any airbus, dreamliner of f35 is hydraulic and that would be made in the UK, the OP is using the phrase like shop, which wouldn't be used in the UK.... Now the dreamliner and f35 share carbon parts made in the the UK, and the Boeing and dreamliner when configured with rolls Royce engines share lots of parts but again built in the UK..... Anyone who knows the slightest about aircraft manufacture will know the UK is the only nation that supply's parts across all the major European/North American/south American manufacturers. The OP is fantasising or embellishing....
These parts are customer furnished material, the order would have been put in months ago, it's a very rigorous process from rocks in the earth to it taking flight.
My buddy is a merchant sailor who transports military supply vessels. Called to tell me they're crewing up all the ships right now and he was worried because it could only mean one thing.
i dont have time to post links now as i have to be at work in 20 mins, but i think i may have an inkling as to why this is happening OP.
iran recently sold high end technology to various countries that are not friendly to the us. when iran did a missile test recently, that gave the trump adminstration the excuse to hit them with sanctions, however it was really over the technology sale.
now, in an effort to project strength, the US is making several aircrafts and other big ticket military items for sale to saudi arabia. its projecting force through proxy, and OP is just a cog in the machine.
The upgrade will cover 435 F-15s, boosting them with new radar technology, updated mission computer systems, modern communication tools, advanced infrared search and track capabilities and electronic warfare defenses so the F-15s can work in concert with more advanced aircraft, the Air Force told CNN.The upgrade will cover 435 F-15s, boosting them with new radar technology, updated mission computer systems, modern communication tools, advanced infrared search and track capabilities and electronic warfare defenses so the F-15s can work in concert with more advanced aircraft, the Air Force told CNN. September 2016
Since this was back in September so I could conceive of something like this taking that long for an actual order to be made to the end client. However, it is also entirely reasonable that this is another part since you have not disclosed which part it is.
Having said that, I think there are a lot of things overall concerning regarding our foreign situation. So its not like any of this makes me feel any more at ease lol
Aerospace design/mfg checking in: the situation of a hot order being over taken by an even hotter order is not uncommon. The parts may or may not be directly identified as F-15, more likely there is a NSN (National Stock Number) or another project number that can be linked to the F-15. It probably has another set of letters with it, such as 'K' for the Korea variant of the F-15. If something terrible is about to happen, trust me, they have all the parts they need on the shelf. This is likely a "just get it done and close the books" scenario for a foreign sale, or trying to close the books on an already long overdue project. I've seen what happens right before something bad, and it doesn't look like this. What does happen is more like this.... a surprise day off. That's when finished inventory gets shipped out in a hurry. Anyway, enjoy the OT and sleep well.
The fear is understandable. I've been in this business a long time, and have to say, the truth is probably incredibly lame. Phone call: G-man: what would it take to close out Project#123zxy? C-man: A lot of overtime. G-man: Do it.
You already stated that you are the only one who makes the part. That might not tell us who you are, but it sure as hell would tell them who you are. No?

Maybe it's not you creating the distraction. The government could have sent these orders out to all the part production companies, not intending to actually do anything with them. They might figure it would create enough of a stir throughout the blue collar US, distracting us while they're sweeping the little boy diddlers under the rug.
n/a TuhDahh 2017-02-06
I think it was cause of discontinuation of the F36. Idiots spent a TRILLION dollars on a plane that wasn't even as efficient as a plane we built in the 1980s.
n/a NotABluSpy 2017-02-06
Like Geckos, but not safe for skin.
n/a bananapeel 2017-02-06
More info on the fish hook thing?
n/a NotABluSpy 2017-02-06

War with Iran
n/a ArchonFall4All 2017-02-06
I'm familiar with F-15s and might be able to work with you to solve this.
Also, feel free to PM me if you'd rather discuss details there
n/a ChodeMole 2017-02-06
Yes I've been here for more than 5 years and the part is a regular order part, it's just there so many of them.
n/a ArchonFall4All 2017-02-06
Hmm, then this likely isn't anything related to the Guard or Reserves, but it could still be part of a sale to a foreign country. Is this part that you manufacture related to the engines and startup (like the AMAD or JFS) or something related to hydraulics? That would be my guess because they are the components that break most often. If it's some other part, then I really have no idea why there would be a large order like this
n/a ChodeMole 2017-02-06
It's a structural part, but could possibly be excised to wear and tear but I'm no plane mechanic.
n/a ArchonFall4All 2017-02-06
Okay, I might have an answer. Structural parts are very rarely replaced, and there's usually only one instance where something like this would be replaced in bulk as unscheduled maintenance. They must've discovered some sort of defect either in this part or a connected component. Any jets affected by this would be grounded until the part(s) could be replaced, which might explain the urgency of the order
n/a ChodeMole 2017-02-06
That actually seems likely, given the priority 1 order.
n/a hoeskioeh 2017-02-06
then wouldn't they be replacing that part in all of the planes?
wiki claims that currently very(!) roughly ~200 F-15 (plus the same for F-15E) are in active duty in the us.
n/a ChodeMole 2017-02-06

n/a Hambone_Malone 2017-02-06
I am a former F-15 avionics specialist. Are these parts for the F-15E model or F-15C model? That would be a big clue as to where these parts are headed.
n/a ChodeMole 2017-02-06
I'm not privy to that information, all I know is what's on my work order. Boeing F-15 is all it says. I'm not sure what the differences are but this kind of part could be universal amongst the different craft, again, I have no idea.
n/a Hambone_Malone 2017-02-06
You said it's a structural part? Is it flight control related? Weapons delivery? Nuclear delivery? It's probably nothing to worry about. Could have had a defective part and they need to do an emergency grounding and fix said part just to be safe. Especially if it's flight control related.
