I think it depends on how many people get taken down. If it's just a few and no "high profile" people, it can be buried or spun very easily. But if it really is dozens of very high profile people I don't know how they can get out of it. It will be the biggest scandal in American political history.

The media doesn't want to undermine the public's faith in democratic institutions or hurt their national pride, which would hurt economies. Trials are likely to be kept private and hidden.

Well, I would think they may want to wait until the Supreme Court nominee gets confirmed as well. Any court case is likely to end up there and they don't want to fight it while it's sitting at 4-4.
