I think papering campuses with simple meme fliers connecting the democratic part name to slavery would seed things nicely.
Especially in locations with a high SJW/BLM history.

Please explain what you mean by this. Most of the population are fully engaged in our two-party system. Democrats are trying to rebuild their party from a demoralizing election; if anything one could argue that the democrats are already fractured due to the lost election.

Resources. The amount of money, manpower, airtime, that would be needed to re-brand or save the party would be astronomical.
An unforeseen crisis now would be a huge setback. It would place the party powers off balance just enough that they may make mistakes doing damage control or even lash out publicly, causing them to lose credibility.
